ART BABSON COLLEGE
Points of View. Hollister Gallery On display until January 21, 2011 Hours: Monday – Thursday 8:00 am-7:00
pm
Dana Clancy’s artwork is about the rituals
associated with traveling and looking, with
places that are specifically set up as viewing
spaces. The artist is interested in the way we use photography to remember and
communicate a visual experience. She only paints places that she has experienced in person
and works from multiple photographs to create a
complex composite image whose geometric edges
draw attention to the touch of the artist and
reference the immersive sometimes overwhelming
experience of being in these particular environments.
The paintings on view at Babson are an expansion of
her series exploring people’s interaction with art and
architecture in museums. Clancy has used her finely
tuned sense of color and form to re-frame spaces
within the Guggenheim, MOMA, Tate, and Mass

MOCA, to make paintings that speak to the intensity and alteration of memory.
In “Points of View” she has made a new series of shaped paintings based on Anish Kapoor’s
sculpture Cloud Gate and the Renzo Piano addition to the Art Institute of Chicago. Taking
her geometric perspective explorations into three dimensions through the use of
architectural model board as a painting surface allows Clancy to create intimate sculptural
paintings whose lines, shapes, and silver surfaces change as the viewer moves.
Dana Clancy is a painter and assistant professor at Boston University's School of Visual Arts.
She received a BA in English Literature from Vassar College and an MFA in Painting from
Boston University.
Ms. Clancy has exhibited her work in solo exhibitions at Boston University, the Danforth Museum of Art, the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center, and Laconia Gallery in Boston's South End. She has been included in group exhibitions nationally, including Delta Axis at Marshall Arts, Memphis, and Bowery Gallery, New York.

THEATER BABSON COLLEGE Wellesley Players Present: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Sorenson Center for the Arts Nov 19 & 20 @ 8pm, Nov 21 @ 2pm, Adult: $19; Senior/Student: $17. The Wellesley Players present the stage version based on the novel of the same title (and made into the famous film later). One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a story of several inmates of a northwestern mental institution, and their opportunities to overcome their disabilities and free themselves of their heavy psychological burdens. Primarily, we see a charming rogue who contrives to serve a short sentence in the airy institution rather than on a work farm. He clashes with the head nurse, but befriends his fellow in-mates, accomplishing with them what the medical profession has never been able to do. He makes a presumed deaf and dumb Indian speak and regain his inner pride, and leads the others out of introversion. This leads to a revolt on the floor - first so that they can do something as simple as watching the World Series on television, then progressing to a rollicking midnight party with liquor

and chippies. The head nurse is not one to stand for rebellion, or for anyone compromising her authority, and does her utmost (and beyond) to keep order in the ward. A play with strong language and adult situations, this production is recommended for audiences sixteen and up (Rated R).
