Dear Nicasio Families,
November has arrived! This is my favorite time of year and I love spending it in Nicasio with your students. I so enjoyed the costume parade and buddy activities on Halloween. All buddies, big and small, seemed to enjoy making slime, decorating cookies, and beading together. Thank you to Theresa Calderon and the parent club for hosting coffee and tea for parents on Halloween morning. (As a friendly reminder, I am still looking for a parent to take the lead for Parent Club. Please see me!)
Our Walk A Thon is tomorrow (Friday, November 3rd) at 2 pm. All Kindergarten
students are invited to return to campus to participate. We will be walking rain or shine, so please have students dress accordingly. Thank you for gathering your pledges and returning them to the main office. This is an important fundraiser for our foundation and all funds go directly back to our students. Thank you, Monica Snell, for organizing!
I am excited to announce that our Spanish program has begun. Please join me in welcoming
Alice Ballery to campus on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Alice has been a middle school Spanish instructor in her native France. With the implementation of our Spanish program, our Friday art classes with Ms. Jenna will end tomorrow. Regular Wednesday art will continue. We are grateful to Ms. Jenna for the additional enrichment she has provided to our students.
Our next emergency drill is scheduled for Thursday, November 9th. This is a noon dismissal
day for students. We will practice our protocols for releasing students to families in the event of an emergency. Please read more information included in Cougar Tracks.
Finally, a reminder that school will be closed on Friday, November 10th in honor of Veterans Day. All the best, Barbara

Lockdown Drill - followed by a Simulated Emergency Student Release to Parents
Thursday, November 9, 2017* *This is an early dismissal day
On Thursday, November 9th, all students, teachers and staff will participate in our first lockdown drill of the school year. This exercise will take place from 11:10-11:30am.
Following the lockdown drill, students, teachers and staff will assemble in the MPR to
practice our Emergency Student Release plan. This drill will require the participation of
all parents or authorized adults planning to pick up students that day. This exercise will
help familiarize our school community with the protocols for releasing students to
parents/authorized adults following an actual emergency.
Please note the following regarding the student release drill:
Anyone arriving to pick up a student on November 9th (and every day) must be named on
that student’s list of authorized Drivers/Emergency Contacts.
Upon arrival, parents/other authorized adults will be asked to form a line at the
“Student Request Table” located outside the north doors of the MPR.
You will be asked to show a driver’s license or other photo ID.
Because the release process will take longer than normal, parents/other authorized
adults may arrive as early as 11:30 and no later than 12pm (NOON).
Students will be released in the order in which they have been requested by their
parents/other authorized adults.
Be prepared for rain! This drill will take place rain or shine, and the Student Request and Release waiting areas for parents/guardians are outside the MPR.
Thank you in advance, for your patience, cooperation and participation!
EMERGENCY STUDENT RELEASE TO PARENTS DRILL STARTS AT 11:30am.
