To be a club of excellence in all that we do for our members and the greater Greystone community.

This year will be one to remember with the exciting news of the Champions Tour returning to

Greystone in 2016, 17, and 18, and all the hype and preparation that goes with it. We have a great deal to look forward to at Greystone with the Golf Operations Building & Plaza going up, the Founders Course renovations nearing completion, and the Legacy Golf Teaching Center in process. These projects would not have transpired without the hard work and dedication of the membership and staff.

I’d like to thank Calvin Bolling and the entire Staff for making Greystone each Member’s home away from home. Calvin and his team continue to develop Greystone as a Club of Excellence.

Thank you to the Board of Directors for their time and commitment to bettering Greystone. Board Members include: Roy Sewell, Steve Vanderburg, Al Del Greco, Rodney Fuller, Bhrett McCabe, Lane Milam, Matt Scalici, Ron Stanfa, and Alton Parker (Legal Counsel). Special thanks to Steve Vanderburg, Bhrett McCabe and Lane Milam whose terms conclude at the end of the year.

Thanks to our Committee Chairpersons this year, Brad Rosenwald, Joe Verciglio, Van Major, Brad Rankin, Janice Folmar, Keith Johnson, Scott Stone, and all of our Committee members for serving as ambassadors of the Club. Their time and valuable input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all Members for sharing your extraordinary experiences at Greystone with prospective new members. Now through December 31st, you will receive an engraved brick in the Founders Golf Plaza (coming spring 2015) just by referring a new Member and being listed as the Primary Sponsor. What better way to become a part of Greystone history? Contact Membership Director, Ashley Fuentes, [email protected] or (205) 986-5146 to refer a friend and obtain more information on the brick drive.

This year, we’re transitioning to e-voting. Not only will this save on paper and postage, we believe that converting to electronic voting will appeal to more members and generate more votes. We will provide a paper ballot to those who would prefer the traditional method. Beginning November 4th, paper ballots can be obtained from the Club’s Admin Office located on the 2nd floor at Founders between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm Monday through Friday.

Thanks to this year’s Nominating Committee for selecting the following candidates to serve as nominees. For President-Elect: Bhrett McCabe and Terry Smith (voting members will select one), and Board of Directors: Scott Ferguson, Russ Hale, Jim O’Brien, and Scott Peters (voting members will choose two).

Now is the time to make reservations for holiday events at Greystone. The Club will host Thanksgiving Eve Take-Out (Nov. 26), Thanksgiving Day Brunch (Nov. 27), Santa Sunday Brunch (Dec. 7 & 14), Dickens Dinner (Dec. 22 & 23), Christmas Eve Brunch (Dec. 24), and a casino themed New Year’s Eve Party (Dec. 31). See pages 10-14 for more information. These special events will fill quickly; call (205) 986-5120 today to make your reservation.

Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and a happy and especially healthy 2015!

Jeff Clifton President

Greystone Golf & Country Club | November-December 2014 3

It is that magical time of the year with the holiday season approaching! This certainly has been

an amazing year at Greystone!

A) The Club signed a 3 year partnership with the Champions Tour to host the Regions Tradition, the “Fifth Major.” B) The membership overwhelmingly approved a capital building program with a vote of 96% in favor of the projects

that will extend through February 2016 and will address many of the areas that the 2013 membership survey identified as areas to improve.

C) The approved Strategic Long Range Plan that identified the four Pillars of Excellence (listed above). D) The Founders Golf Course renovation which included rebuilding 4 greens and reshaping 7 others, renovating every

bunker with Better Billy Bunker technology, adding several additional strategic bunkers, adding 2 new tee complexes, and piping the creek in the first landing area on no. 5. The renovation will conclude in November.

E) The 10th Annual Save the O’s 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run had over 410 participants and raised over $50,000! F) The Gator Swim Team won the County Championship in their division! G) The Club and Community came together to support the fight against ALS with the Ice Bucket Challenge.

The Founders Golf Operations Building & Plaza will be completed in March 2015. The Legacy Golf Teaching Center will be completed in January 2015. The Founders Lower Level Renovation Phase 1 which includes the fitness center, child care, and ladies’ locker room

will begin in January 2015 and open in June 2015. Phase 2 which includes the casual dining room/bar/gathering place and kitchen will begin in June 2015 and be completed by March 2016.

The Founders Course will be new and exciting! The Club will continue preparation for the 2016 Regions Tradition Champions Tour event. Greystone’s 25th Anniversary will be here in 2016! Yes, there will be exciting events for all members to celebrate! The Club will grow and prosper as the new spaces are completed! Greystone will be the Club of Choice!

As I conclude another great year at Greystone, I cannot express my gratitude enough to you, the incredible members who have touched my life, and to my work family—the loyal, devoted, incredibly smart and hardworking associates that I have the pleasure to learn from everyday.

I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and happy Holiday Season!

P.S. Our son Marshall will be graduating from Auburn University in 2015. He has truly blossomed into an incredible young man. Recently, he had the opportunity to fly with the President of Auburn, Jay Gogue, and speak to over 800 high school seniors and their parents at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center in Birmingham. As a parent, I know you all can appreciate how incredibly proud we are of our amazing kids. Let’s continue to let our kids know how wonderful they are!

The Big Christmas sale is coming sooner than you can blink.

Greystone Founders Golf Shop will be the place to be on Thursday, December 4th. It’s just one big party to ring in the

Christmas shopping season, but this one is with a little less stress, a little more food, some killer discounts and one member who will walk away with 100% off their entire purchase. That’s right 100% off, you just need to be a little lucky and draw that 100% off card out of the magic discount bowl. If you haven’t been to this wonderful event before, please make plans to come by and shop where everything is easier. Park close to the store, discounts on all men’s and ladies’ wear, complimentary gift wrap, wine, cheese and snacks while you shop. It truly is a Christmas Miracle come true!

When fixing your ballmark on the greens (and we all need to do a better job of that), this little tip will make the repair better and heal quicker. The first thing you should do is tap the ball mark down flat with your putter, then use your divot tool to pinch in the sides and close up the hole. The big don’t is to bring the bottom of the ball mark up to be flat with the area around it as the grass is usually dead from the impact of the ball already.

I hope you have been using the Online Tee Times system that is conveniently located on the Greystone website. We’ve had the Online Tee Time system for one year now. Besides the ease and comfort of being able to make a tee time from wherever you are 24 hours a day, it will also help you plan your day and see if any of your friends are playing. Once entered, it sends a confirmation email and the program will text you your tee times as well as the individuals you added to your tee time. Also, it can assist you in posting your scores after a round. Add the mobile version to your phone (iPhone or Android) to make it even easier. If you need any help with Online Tee Times please stop by the Golf Shop for assistance.

In April or May of 2015 we will be having the Alabama Golf Association Golf Rating Team come out to the Founders Course to look at the course to see if the rating needs to change based upon the changes that the Founders underwent over the summer period. The team takes into consideration the following factors in rating a course. Here are just a few of the many that go into the overall rating: Course length, greens speeds, rough height, fairway widths, size of greens, and resistance to scoring. When the process is complete, new ratings will be posted and handicaps will automatically adjust in the computer system.

Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a happy 2015!

Many players find that Santa brings them golf equipment during

the holiday season. Unfortunately, Santa isn't much of a golfer, and really doesn't know what will work best for your game. So make a fitting appoint-ment to take a look at the specific items of need for your set, before the holidays are upon us. We will pass along the fitting solution to the elves, and make sure they have your custom fit golf equipment ready for you by the time the holidays are here! DON'T SETTLE FOR "OFF the RACK" GOLF CLUBS AS GIFTS, and consider being fit, so that whatever you may receive, you will enjoy for years to come.

As we near the holiday season, we hope you will keep in mind that the TaylorMade Performance Lab offers Gift Certificates to both members and guests. We offer a Holiday Gift Certificate program whereby fittings are offered at 30% below the standard fitting fee. The Gift Certificate is valid through December 31, 2015.

Just a reminder that no one has access to the newest offerings from TaylorMade and Adams Golf earlier than the TaylorMade Lab does. Additionally, we always have items that are exclusively available to TMPL Patrons, that will never be found at retailers of golf stores. New offerings are typically made available to TMPL Patrons 3-5 weeks ahead of the official launch dates, when retailers are allowed to stock the new items in their stores.

Lastly, we would like to remind everyone that if you refer 5 players to the TaylorMade Lab within a 12 month period for full fittings, the Lab will fit you for a driver for free and give you the driver for which you were fit FOR FREE!! To date, not a single member has availed themselves of this great opportunity, so we hope you will consider this through the holiday months if you are looking to replace your driver in 2015.

Fall is upon us with the Holiday Season just

around the corner. Great things are happening at the Stone, particularly the Golf Performance Center which is under construction at Legacy. Included here are some pictures of the

progress to date (late October). The facility is going to be truly state-of-the-art with the latest teaching technology available to you, our membership. If the construction continues on the current track, completion is scheduled from January 2015. This opening will offer us the ability to introduce some new development programs for the winter months without fear of the weather.

The three bays in the Golf Performance Center provide us with 2,500 sq. ft. of heated and cooled teaching space. The beauty of the layout includes multi-functional capabilities with two of the bays featuring a floating wall to allow for our group programs to work away from the elements, while in the single bay individual lessons can continue. The teaching center to be known as the Greystone Performance Center, as the name suggests, the center will also have a golf specific functional gym to allow golfers to work on their physical game simultaneously with their golf game. There will be the opportunity to receive golf specific training for the individual, and the ability to train and practice with 3D motion capture technology in structured practice sessions. Each bay will be equipped with multiple cameras and video screens to enhance the learning experience. The use of technology to provide biofeedback for the student dramatically expedites the learning curve. All lessons will be web based so a review and summary can be sent to a mobile device for post session viewing. The online scheduling system will allow students to book lessons, workouts and practice sessions.

The truly unique part of the Performance Center will be in the single bay where we will have the latest technology for evaluating athletes across multiple sports. This is an exciting time for us with the ability to evaluate, not only golf swings but also the mechanics for football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, lacrosse, tennis, soccer, and even swimming. With functional assessment, 3D motion capture, force plates, high speed video and radar, we can evaluate and then improve performance. Perhaps more significant though is our ability to reduce the likelihood of injury. This performance concept is the key to developing the best junior players across all sports.

The Performance Center will also have a small conference room available for corporate retreats and business meetings. We will begin to introduce new golf schools during the spring to complement our coaching programs and you will see the addition of new instructors. We will be expanding our club fitting and repair operation to offer a one stop shop for Greystone members and guests to dial in their equipment. This holistic approach is the Blackburn Golf philosophy to develop the best athlete and golfer possible whether it be a beginner junior in our velocity class, a PGA Tour player or anyone in between.

Our monthly coaching programs continue to stay busy even with shorter evenings and college football. We will run these programs year round with the Performance Center hosting them as of January 2015. If you are interested in these programs please contact Mason, Brian or myself for more details. Click here to contact us.
