On October 2, 2012, Elizabeth Heard called an emergency meeting of the ARC Board to an-nounce her resignation as board president effective immediately. For personal reasons, Elizabeth will be relocating outside of the Denver metro area. According to the ARC Bylaws, as Vice
President of ARC, I will step into the position of President until the end of the term, June 2013. I want to personally thank Elizabeth for the wonderful work she did as president, and the relaxed style she demonstrated that made her an easy leader to follow. She constantly held a vision of professionalism and growth for ARC, and we are going to miss her. Thank you Elizabeth, and sincere best wishes to you in your new endeavors. Change. Just the thought of it stirs up something different in all of us. Sometimes change is our own idea and sometimes we are thrown into change by the circumstances of the day. Most often it’s our attitude and commitment that contribute to our success during change. Fall seems like the perfect time to contemplate change because change is the very thing that makes Fall so magnificent - the switch from the long hot days of Summer to the long cold nights of Winter prompts the change that provides us with the spectacular kaleidoscope of colors that take our breath away. Additionally, we are programmed from childhood to be motivated into action in the Fall because that is when we return to school after the long lazy summer.
So here we are, in a place of change. I’m asking all of us - the membership of ARC - to make this a positive opportunity of change for ARC. I have asked Paula and Beth to conduct a brainstorming session at the November ARC meeting. Brainstorming is fun, generates a ton of great ideas and lets all members contribute and input their ideas. The goal will be to identify what you desire from your Reflexology practice, and to identify what the ARC organization will move toward in 2013, according to the ideas of the ARC membership. Please attend the November ARC meeting and identify the needs that we would like ARC to meet, and then join us to actively move toward making ARC the organization that we all want it to be a part of.

B r a i n s t o rmi n g P r i n c i p l e s a n d R u l e s You have permission to print and use these rules if you include this notice on the same page:
Please visit www.brainstorming.co.uk, internet and computer resources for creativity and
brainstorming. ©1999 Infinite Innovations Ltd. All rights reserved.
Post-pone and withhold your judgement of ideas.
Do not pass judgement on ideas until the completion of the brainstorming session. Do not suggest that an idea
will not work or that it has bad side-effects. All ideas are potentially good so do not judge them until
afterwards. Avoid discussing ideas, which includes not criticizing and not complimenting ideas.
Ideas should be put forward both as solutions and also as a basis to spark off solutions. Even seemingly
foolish ideas can spark off better ones. Therefore do not judge the ideas until after the brainstorming process.
Note down all ideas. There is no such thing as a bad idea.
Evaluation of ideas takes up valuable brain power which should be devoted to the creation of ideas.
Maximise your brainstorming session by only spending time generating new ideas.
Encourage wild and exaggerated ideas.
It is much easier to tame a wild idea than it is to think of an immediately valid one in the first place. The
'wilder' the idea the better. Shout out bizarre and unworkable ideas to see what they spark off. No idea is too
ridiculous. State any outlandish ideas. Exaggerate ideas to the extreme.
Use creative thinking techniques and tools to start your thinking from a fresh direction. Use specialist
software such as Innovation Toolbox to stimulate new ideas more easily.
Quantity counts at this stage, not quality.
The more creative ideas a person or a group has to choose from, the better. If the number of ideas at the end
of the session is very large, there is a greater chance of finding a really good idea. Keep each idea short, do
not describe it in detail - just capture the essence of the idea. Brief clarifications can be requested. Think fast,
reflect later.
Go for quantity of ideas at this point; narrow down the list later. All activities should be geared towards
extracting as many ideas as possible in a given period.
Build on the ideas put forward by others
Build and expand on the ideas of others. Try and add extra thoughts to each idea. Use other people's ideas as
inspiration for your own. Creative people are also good listeners. Combine several of the suggested ideas to
explore new possibilities.
It is just as valuable to be able to adapt and improve other people's ideas as it is to generate the initial idea
that sets off new trains of thought.
Every person and every idea has equal worth
Every person has a valid view point and a unique perspective on the situation and solution. We want to know
yours. In a brainstorming session you can always put forward ideas purely to spark off other people and not
just as a final solution. Please participate, even if you need to write your ideas on a piece of paper and hand it
out. Encourage participation from everyone.
Each idea presented belongs to the group, not to the person stating it. It is the group's responsibility and an
indication of its ability to brainstorm if all participants feel able to contribute freely and confidently.

ON A ‘ ROCKY MOUNTAIN FASCIA HIGH’ by Jennifer Reinbrecht
I'm on a fascial high since attending the Fascial Research Conference in Vancouver, BC Canada in March. Those of you who heard my presentation and then came for the exchanges in August were also "infected" with the possibilities. One avenue of this has been to establish the
Rocky Mountain Ortho-Bionomy Center, LLC
with Sheri Covey, Advanced Instructor. The school was approved by the State Dept of Higher Education, Division of Occupational Schools at the end of September. The first week of classes will be held at Just for Health starting November 5th. This work has direct and immediate applications for reflexologists and other bodyworkers, and is open to laypeople interested in learning a healing modality. The web site is evolving, but you can learn more at www.rmobcenter.com. Classes will be available in Grand Junction and Denver. Rachel Lord has been invaluable in the process from her own experience working thru the state application process.
SCRAPBOOKING EVENT By Todd A. Richter
Marcia Franks and I help a local scrapbooking company with an event they do twice a year. Last March, we introduced Hand and Foot Reflexology to the group. We had only provided Chair and Table Massage before that. The ladies really liked that option. So, we decided to offer it again in October. One of the ladies loved it so much from receiving it in March that she went around and talked it up to the rest of the group. Well, she came over as we were setting up and asked where the chair was to do Hand and Foot Reflexology, and it was at that point that I realized that I left the La Fuma like chair at home. So, I asked my wife to go home and bring the chair back here. As soon as the chair arrived and was set up, we had a small line of people waiting to get the work done. It ended up being a huge success. Some received 2 –3 sessions of Reflexology while we we there. People were walking by and making all sorts of sounds of relief and joy that they could get their hands and feet done. There were ladies from a Mary Kay event that even came over to get their feet done. Many never even had Reflexology done to them and were inquisitive about what it did for them. We will be offering Hand and Foot Reflexology at this event going forward, knowing full well that people will crave this service.

offers classes in Denver and Grand Junction that can lead to Practitioner's Certification thru the Society of Ortho-Bionomy International (SOBI).
Based in Osteopathy, Ortho-Bionomy® is uniquely effective in healing acute and chronic pain. “Ortho” (think “orthopedics”) is bodywork that engages our self-correcting reflexes
from positions of comfort and ease of movement. Through this work our
nervous system can “re-set,” interrupt the pain cycle, and allow our tissues to re-organize, re-pattern and change.

Here are some things to do that will help you gain a better presence on the web. Some of these things you can learn to do, while other items you will want a web developer, like me, to help you.
1. Add Meta tags: Description and keywords on each page. You will need a web developer to help you with this.
2. Create a Google e-mail for your business first. Then, set up a Google Places/Local account for your business.
3. Add to your Google Account – Google Analytics (Tools setup). Once verified and set up, add code to each page of website.
4. Create a Yahoo e-mail account for your business first. Then, set up a Yahoo Local account for your business.
5. Create a Yelp account for your business and tie it to your business e-mail address.
6. Get reviews written from your clients for Yelp, Google and Yahoo Local. Give them an incentive to do this.
7. Update website content every 1 to 2 weeks, so that Google thinks your website is important. You will need a web developer to help you with this.
8. Update keywords and descriptions in your metatags every 2 – 3 weeks. You will need a web developer to help you with this.
9. Add a Testimonial Page to your website. Give your clients an incentive to write a testimonial. You will need a web developer to help you with this.
10. Look at other competitive company websites and see what they have that you might like to have on your website.
11. Add a Pay Pal account that is tied to your business checking account. Then, add a link so people can pay for your services online through Pay Pal. You will need a web developer to help you with this.
12. Look at other competitive company websites for their keywords and descriptions to get some ideas as to what to add to yours. You will need a web developer to help you with this.
13. Add a Facebook, Yelp, Google and/or Yahoo link to your business page of these sites from your Home page. You will need a web developer to help you with this.
14. Submit your website to other Search Engine websites. There are plenty of Search Engines out there. You will need a web developer to help you with this.
15. Ask friends to link your website to theirs. Even if it is in their Network page on their website.

HOW TO HAVE A HEALTHY IMMUNE SYSTEM by Rachel Lord RN, BCR, Master Herbalist
The seasons are changing and it is easy to get sick if we are not careful. The best way to stay healthy is to consider wellness from a mind, body, spirit point of view. Some of these measures are what we always knew, but don’t always practice. Here are some basics for you and your clients.
MIND/SPIRIT:
♦ Mind/body connection: Attitudes and thoughts affect immunity. This can make the difference between being sick or not, all else created equal. Think positive. Negativity attracts illness.
♦ Stress: Relax with yoga, meditation, breath work.
♦ Sense of humor: Joy and laughter bring healing chemicals into our bloodstream and increases immune cells in the body.
♦ Other known immune enhancers: Relaxing music. Being true to yourself. Having a purpose in life. Sense of community- human connectedness. Touching and being touched. Service. Sex. Spiritual Perspective.
BODY:
♦ Wash your hands: Most viruses are picked up on hands, transmitted to eyes, nose, mouth. Wash phone receivers, door knobs, countertops with bleach.
♦ Eat wisely: Fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, nuts, seeds, beans, lots of water. Try winter root veggies like beets, parsnips, rutabagas, turnips. ‘Power foods’ known to increase immunity include: green tea, garlic, maitake and shiitake mushrooms.
♦ Exercise regularly: Exercise decreases stress and increases killer cells.
♦ Others: Get enough sleep. Disrupted sleep decreases killer cells. Restrict drugs and alcohol. Avoid low frequency (60Hz) electric fields (electric blankets) and high frequency electric wires. Full spectrum light bulbs. Antibiotics, only if necessary to decrease resistant strains.
NUTRIENTS:
♦ Good MultiVitamin: Zinc,Vitamin C, Probiotics such as Acidophilis, antioxidants.
HERBS:
♦ Adaptogens: The ‘Superior Remedies’ that keep us well and help our body adapt to stress. Astragalus Root, Reishi Mushroom, Schisandra Berry, all Ginsengs, Licorice, Ashwaganda. These are available in tincture or capsule forms at health food stores or from your herbalist.
COLD and FLU TEA 2 teaspoons dried Garden Sage
Juice of 1 lemon Pinch Cayenne Pepper (just enough to sweat a little)
1 tablespoon honey (wild flower kind, if possible)
Pour one cup boiling water over Sage and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Strain out herbs, add remaining ingredients and drink hot. Repeat 3 x day and get well!

FOOT NOTES & TIPS FROM THE TOES by Marie T. Koepke RN, NBCR,FCCI
BOLSTER YOUR PRACTICE AND PROTECT YOUR JOINTS
Protect those “saddle joints” and thumbs with tools that support and provide proper “body
mechanics” for the Reflexologist. In addition, to sitting on a ball chair while working I arrange my bolsters in this fashion to support my elbows while working on the feet. I use my Reflexology bolster and a massage half bolster where my elbows rest. The whole bottom fitted sheet covers and secures these two bolsters in place, thereby minimizing the half bolster from falling off the table.
These bolsters can be purchased at : http://www.customcraftworks.com
SOOTHE THOSE TIRED & ACHY FEET WITH THIS GOLF BALL FOOT SOAK
What You will need:
♦ Square plastic tub (large enough for both feet to fit in).
♦ Enough golf balls to cover the bottom but allow room
for the balls to move around.
♦ Enough hot water to cover the golf balls and feet.
♦ A handful of Epsom Salt
Directions:
1. Fill the bottom of the tub with golf balls
2. Pour in warm/hot water and fill till it covers your ankles
3. Add a handful of Epsom Salt
4. Place both feet in and roll them back and forth for 20 minutes while watching TV or reading.
A perfect prelude to a restful night’s sleep!
