What makes for a great first diving experience

bull All beginner divers learn in a warm indoor pool You donrsquot need to be a good swimmer but you must be comfortable in water Yoursquoll be asked to be able to float or tread water continuously in the deep end

bull Diving is very different than swimming mdash you use your hips for movement through the water rather than arms In fact arms should be folded in for efficient underwater propulsion

bull Ninety percent of class instruction in the pool is what to do when things go wrong By the end of pool instruction you should feel comfortable fixing common prob-lems underwater without surfac-ing
