The Stewardship of Surprising Gifts Dear Friends and Members of Wright Church,

To smell the roses is not enough - they must be tended also.

The rose, Wright Church. So if we want our rose to bloom, we have to take care of it. That's what stewardship does.

We need to give generously of our substance - which is what we need to live on, to pay our bills, not the extras. When you give from your substance, you remember it - it stays with you.

Thanks, and we will see you in church!

Reports and Meetings

Notes from the Board Notes from the Board

Dear Lord, may your holy spirit be with your Church and with each of us. Let us be kind and gentle with one another, for we do not know the challenges each of us face in our lives. Help us to be faithful to you, as we seek to understand your will. Remind us there is room for all of us in your Church, and all are welcome and invited. We ask for your guidance and reassurance as we move forward in our lives and in the life of your Church.

Knowing our Lord will guide us, we conducted the business of our Church.

Several committee chairs remain available. Our Ministry of Volunteers, chaired by Meredith Pond, is looking for candidates to fill these positions. Please contact Meredith if you are interested in serving.

Our stewardship campaign has begun. We thank Ron and Syl Apperson for stepping in as Chairs. Please prayerfully consider pledging financial support to your Church. Our budget is based in part on your pledged amount and this helps plan for future.

Your Church is active as we move into the fall season. Our worship services are inspired. The Choir has reconvened. Our youth group is focusing on hunger in our Community. Sunday school is meeting. Many other groups are active. Together we are the Church.

We place our trust in our Lord and boldly move forward.

Respectfully submitted, Will Patterson, Board Chair

Congregational Budget Meeting

This is the first call for the Congregational Budget Meeting on Sunday, November 24, following the worship service. The 2014 preliminary budged will be presented and you will have a chance to meet to the officers for 2014.

Search Committee Update The past month your search committee has received additional candidate profiles and we continue to review earlier ones. As we prayerfully consider each candidate we keep in mind the wants and wishes of our congregation. We will continue to receive profiles as we examine those already received. Stay tuned for monthly updates.

Bench Supper Update Our last Bench Supper for 2013 was held the fourth Thursday in October. We served soup, chili, and cornbread to 100 people!

Please contact Julie Patterson if you are interested in helping with next year's suppers beginning in January 2014.

We continue to thank the following local businesses for their kind donations: Elliott Law Firm, Rose Hill Coin and Jewelry, Anytime Lock and Key.

Huntington Disease Society The Huntington Disease Society had their annual Walk for Hope on Saturday, Oct. 12. Many of our members helped to sponsor Trevor & Jennifer Makinson who say 'Thank you. Your financial support it is greatly appreciated.' The local chapter raised $13,500, a $6000 increase over last year!

Huntington's disease is a disorder passed down through families in which nerve cells in certain parts of the brain waste away or degenerate. There is no cure for Huntington's disease, and there is no known way to stop the disease from getting worse. The goal of treatment is to slow down the symptoms and help the person function for as long and as comfortably as possible.

Proceeds from the Walk for Hope go to research, education, and advocacy.

Please Help the Furnaces!

When these things break, it can get pretty cold. We have had to repair or replace three of our furnace units in the last month. Please do what you can to help us cover the almost $4000 bill. Donations can be made to the Building Fund; note that it is to help pay the furnace repair bill.

In October we had a Halloween party at Rev Cynthia's house and in December we will party again. This time at Robin Canning's house. Mark your calendar for Sunday, December 15, following the church service and fellowship time. Currently there is no activity planned for November but that doesn't mean there won't be!

Thanksgiving Food Drive

and Bake Sale

Our Youth Group has accepted the challenge of leading our Wright response to the St. Vincent de Paul Thanksgiving Food Drive. Last year the program provided 2400 turkey dinner boxes that served over 10,000 people in the Boise community.

The Youth Group will host a bake sale on Sunday, Nov 3, following the worship service. Money raised will go toward purchasing as many frozen turkeys as possible. In addition, members are asked to bring any of the following ingredients for the turkey dinner boxes. We will be collecting until Thursday, November 21. The boxes will be distributed on Nov 24 and 25 by St. Vincent's.

10 lb potatoes Stuffing mix for bird 1 large can pumpkin pie mix Bisquick or baking mix 2 cans yams 2 cans cranberries 2 cans corn 2 cans green beans 2 cans peas 1 package pie crust mix 2 cans chicken broth 2 cans evaporated milk 1 or 2 large onions 1 foil roasting pan

The hope is to be able to assemble at least one box, maybe more. A sign-up sheet is available at the church.
