Five Tips to a Healthier Thanksgiving for Seniors
Don't dine alone. Many senior centers provide opportunities for people to enjoy a hearty Thanksgiving meal in the company of others. Sharing the holiday with others not only lifts your spirits, but provides a well-balanced healthy meal. If you're able, find out how to volunteer to help prepare and serve this year's Thanksgiving feast. Mind your heart. Calories and fat still count during the holidays. Overeating can lead to everything from heartburn to a heart attack. Limit gravies, butter and other high-fat choices with plenty of vegetables and lean white meat. If you experience chest pain, don't delay seeing a doctor. Drink in moderation. Besides a nasty hangover and obvious safety hazards, over-imbibing can have many negative effects - some social and some physical - including depression, an inflammation of the pancreas, hepatitis and an irregular heartbeat. Limit your intake to no more than one alcoholic drink per day for women and no more than two drinks per day for men. And never drink and drive. Plan ahead. Be sure to have an up-to-date list of medications you are taking. If you do face a health emergency during the holidays, it's important for your doctor to know your current medical conditions and have a list of your medications. Keep your health in focus. If you feel under the weather - physically or mentally - during the holidays, don't wait to visit your doctor. Colds, flu and depression are much more common during this season.
Many people say that Feldenkrais exercises work “like magic”. Feldenkrais exercises consist of small, comfortable movements, and are done in an easy and relaxed way. The results can be felt immediately.
With Feldenkrais, you will be able to maintain the ability to move comfortably and easily, improve coordination, posture and flexibility, improve muscle and joint health, reduce stress and promote relaxation, restore function, enjoy renewed vitality and improved sense of well-being, become less susceptible to injury, recover faster and more fully after injury, increase comfort in all physical activities, improve brain fitness and agility, improve balance and stability, and rebuild physical self-confidence.

Four lost hikers are about to discover they’re capable of something extraordinary.
Nola has gone up the mountain to commemorate her wedding anniversary, the first since her beloved husband passed. Blonde, stick-thin Bridget is training for a triathalon. Vonn is working out her teenage rebellion at eight thousand feet, driven by family obligation and the urge to escape her mistakes. Still reeling from the tragic accident that robbed him of his best friend, Wolf Truly is the only experienced hiker among them, but he has come to the cliffs on his eighteenth birthday without food or supplies because he plans to take his own life.
When a series of missteps strands this unusual group together in the wilderness, they soon realize that their only defense against the brutality of nature is one another. As one day without rescue spirals dramatically into the next, and misadventure turns to nightmare, these four broken souls begin to form an inextricable bond, pushing themselves and one another further than they ever could have dreamed possible. The three who make it home alive will be forever changed by their harrowing days on the mountain.
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Girls, The Mountain Story is a fast-paced, suspenseful adventure and a gorgeous tribute to the resilience of the human spirit. Braving a landscape both unforgivingly harsh and breathtakingly beautiful, Nola, Bridget, Vonn, and Wolf find themselves faced with an impossible question: How much will they sacrifice for a stranger?

Join us on a private group tour of the historic Woolworth Building lobby. Though it has been closed to the public for many years, we have been given an exclusive opportunity to see the amazing architecture and splendor of the Woolworth Building’s Lobby.
Nicknamed the 'Cathedral of Commerce', The Woolworth Building was completed in 1913 and stood as the world's tallest building for 17 years. Its grand lobby remains unrivaled in its beauty, craftsmanship, and sense of humor.
Experienced tour guides will provide an overview of the building’s history and point out special aspects of the Lobby including the stone caricatures, imported marble, mosaic tile, stained glass, murals, and provide a discussion about the development of Lower Manhattan in the early 1900s and the importance of the Woolworth Building.

Happy Birthday to:
Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.
-William Arthur Ward
We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.
-Thornton Wilder
Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds.
-Theodore Roosevelt
It is literally true, as the thankless say, that they have nothing to be thankful for. He who sits by the fire, thankless for the fire, is just as if he had no fire. Nothing is possessed save in appreciation, of which
thankfulness is the indispensable ingredient. But a thankful heart hath a continual feast.
-W.J. Cameron
Give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way. -Native American Saying
Gratitude is the sign of noble souls. -Aesop
