Their invitation lends itself not only to draw an audience, but to inspire toe tapping, clapping, and singing. The fact that we can see the changing colors of the trees this year is cause for thanksgiving. But aren’t we just as glad when we see them green up and blossom in the spring? Thanksgiving, however, happens all year round. For each day brings with it unique gifts that, while repetitive in nature, cannot be precisely duplicated. Rabbi Rami Shapiro writes this: “Consider a jigsaw puzzle. Each piece has its place and no other piece can fit that place. Yet no one piece makes sense on its own. Each piece needs the whole for its integrity and coherence. And the whole needs each piece to fulfill its purpose and bring meaning and order to the puzzle. Once a piece is in its proper place, its separateness is surrendered. We know a piece is in its place when it blends with the whole and disappears.” At the completion of any jigsaw puzzle, don’t we all thankfully sit back and enjoy the accomplishment? In this place there are many puzzlers (if that’s what you call jigsaw puzzle lovers). Just stop by the library or the Inn and you will see not just one but several puzzles completed and another in various stages. Green Hills is like a giant puzzle. Just think of it. Every person here—residents, staff, family, medical personnel, vendors—make up a part of our puzzle. In the quotation above, all we have to do is replace “jigsaw puzzle” with Green Hills, and every time “piece” appears with a person’s name and we have our own version of Rabbi Shapiro’s statement. What thankfulness there is in knowing we are each part and parcel of Green Hills Community! There will be so many events in the next two months that our calendars will be full. We can be thankful that there is so much to select. We turn to scriptures and find a great many examples of God’s abundance. His blessings are so numerous “our cup overflows.” God sent “food to them in abundance” and “rain in abundance,” why wouldn’t he be generous to everyone here. We can raise our voices in praise and thanksgiving for the saints who have gone before us, the veterans who served our country, and for all the good that fill our lives in one way or another. Once we claim our spot in this beautiful community of ours, we can see an amazing glimpse of what God intended the world to be. And we can thank God for that. If it’s the fourth Thursday of the month, it is a

Dulcimer Thursday at both the Green Hills Emerald

and Care Center. Bits and Pieces string instrument

group has been a part of musical entertainment at

Green Hills since 2003. Originally traveling to Champaign and Logan County, the eight

member group has focused its most recent years on sharing music in Logan County. The

talents of the group extends beyond the mountain dulcimer to include the marimbula,

guitar and autoharp. The musicians carefully select a range of music that includes folk

tunes and Christian hymns. Their invitation lends itself not only to draw an audience, but

to inspire toe tapping, clapping, and singing.

We are grateful for the consistent stewardship of time and talent that is generously

offered by the members of Bits and Pieces. For any one of us, there is nothing more

delightful then a trip down music memory lane.

Volunteers of the Month

November Birthdays

November—the month of Thanksgiving is truly a time for

thanksgiving. The fact that we can see the changing colors of the trees

this year is cause for thanksgiving. But aren’t we just as glad when we

see them green up and blossom in the spring? Thanksgiving, however,

happens all year round. For each day brings with it unique gifts that,

while repetitive in nature, cannot be precisely duplicated. Rabbi Rami

Shapiro writes this: “Consider a jigsaw puzzle. Each piece has its place

and no other piece can fit that place. Yet no one piece makes sense on

its own. Each piece needs the whole for its integrity and coherence.

And the whole needs each piece to fulfill its purpose and bring meaning and order to the

puzzle. Once a piece is in its proper place, its separateness is surrendered. We know a

piece is in its place when it blends with the whole and disappears.” At the completion of

any jigsaw puzzle, don’t we all thankfully sit back and enjoy the accomplishment?

In this place there are many puzzlers (if that’s what you call jigsaw puzzle lovers).

Just stop by the library or the Inn and you will see not just one but several puzzles

completed and another in various stages. Green Hills is like a giant puzzle. Just think of it.

Every person here—residents, staff, family, medical personnel, vendors—make up a part of

our puzzle. In the quotation above, all we have to do is replace “jigsaw puzzle” with Green

Hills, and every time “piece” appears with a person’s name and we have our own version

of Rabbi Shapiro’s statement. What thankfulness there is in knowing we are each part and

parcel of Green Hills Community!

There will be so many events in the next two months that our calendars will be full.

We can be thankful that there is so much to select. We turn to scriptures and find a great

many examples of God’s abundance. His blessings are so numerous “our cup overflows.”

God sent “food to them in abundance” and “rain in abundance,” why wouldn’t he be

generous to everyone here. We can raise our voices in praise and thanksgiving for the

saints who have gone before us, the veterans who served our country, and for all the

good that fill our lives in one way or another. Once we claim our spot in this beautiful

community of ours, we can see an amazing glimpse of what God intended the world to

be. And we can thank God for that.

How sweet it was…

to receive so many generous donations of candy

for our annual Trick or Treat event. Each little wrapped

morsel contained the magic for a guaranteed smile.

Actually, at least two smiles, one from the giver and

one from the receiver. So, if you do the math, 10,000

pieces of candy x 2 smiles = at least 20,000 smiles…

priceless! Thank you for providing all those smiles.

Matter of Balance Falls are NOT a natural part of aging. Join us to find out how you can minimize

your risk. Call 937-465-5065 to sign up today. Wednesdays at 9:00AM

November 4 through December 16 in the chapel. We will take Thanksgiving week off.

Coffee Connection

Join us on Tuesday mornings for

coffee, discussion, and fun. The

third Tuesday of each month is

the Techy Teens and Savvy

Seniors program. Local teens will

be on hand to help you with your

technology concerns. Bring your

tech questions and get the

answers you need.

Cookie Exchange

There will be a cookie exchange on Wednesday, December 2nd

at 1:30 PM in Foundation Hall. You bring one kind of cookie, and go home with a variety. You exchange however many dozen cookies you bring. For example if you bring 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies, you go home with 3 dozen of the various cookies that are there. This will be a fun Christmas event!
