THANK YOU!

prayers, condolences, gifts and help offered to me on Vern’s sudden death. Many, many thanks to each and
every one of you. Most sincerely, Jan Smith & family.
Thanksgiving Help for The Apache People
This year, as in the past 13, we are attempting to bring relief to the poverty stricken Apaches residing on the San Carlos Reservation this Thanksgiving. We realize these are rather tough economic times and many are living from month to month. However, if you can help, it would be greatly appreciated by all involved on the reservation. The residents and staff at Dolce
Vita have been extremely generous in the past. A San Carlos drop box will again be placed in the ballroom during Monday Morning Coffee & Donuts. Just place your Thanksgiving donation in the box, at our home(#1001), or call Rich/Carol Marola at 480-983-5692
for pick up. Besides Thanksgiving, God willing, we will again be planning food drives for Christmas and Easter. All of our donations will be delivered to the St. Charles
Apache Mission Church where they will be distribut-ed. Help is always looked for in the delivery of the
donations to the reservation. It is a beautiful 140 mile round trip through some stunning mountain vistas. If you can help, please call. Someone recently asked, “How much longer do we need to help the Indians?” I’m afraid I don’t have an answer to that. How long does poverty last? When do our hearts tell us enough?
Please remember, every item donated, helps. Items needed:
Canned/Frozen Meat, Canned/Dry Pinto Beans, Pea-nut Butter/Jelly, Canned Soup/Pasta, Pork & Beans, Canned Vegetables, Mac & Cheese, Crackers &
Cookies, Canned Fruit, Cake Mix, Paper Products, Personal Hygiene Products, or any other item you
wish to donate for the Holidays. Please Call Rich/Carol Marola for more info.

NOVEMBER-The feasting season is here! This is where we all have those temptations of goodies, pies, stuffing, turkey, eggnog, cranberries, mashed potatoes and desserts. The biggest day being Thanksgiving, Nov. 23rd. Here are some fun facts about that day.
The Plymouth Pilgrims were the first to celebrate in 1621 in Plymouth Mass. They celebrated for 3 days. Their meals consisted of rabbit, chicken, fish, squashes, chestnuts, dried fruits, cabbage eggs and goat cheese. Sounds pretty healthy. They did not use forks; they ate with spoons, knives and their fingers. Abraham Lincoln was the guy who declared a “Thanksgiving Proclamation” in 1863” for the last Thursday of Nov. as a national day for Thanksgiving.
There are 280 million turkeys sold- average American eats between 16-18 pounds of turkey. The heaviest turkey raised was 86 #'s, about the size of a large dog. 15# turkey is 70% white meat and 30% dark meat. They have more protein than chicken or beef. Male turkeys gobble and Hens do not-they make a clucking noise. (more fantastic facts? go to “Thanksgiving Fun Facts” on internet.)
RAC NEWS

Help! Monday, Nov 30, 7AM --Decorate the Clubhouse time! RAC (Resident Activity Committee) has been asked to take over the “Decorating the Clubhouse” for Christmas. Elaine Brynsaas is retiring and we will certainly miss her fantastic skills in organizing and coming up with the ideas for the past 9 years. The clubhouse will be closed for activities so we can put up those trees, snowflakes, ornaments and lights. We need some strong guys to bring those boxes down, and ladders to decorate those walls and ceilings. We need creative gals and those who love to decorate. If you like to sleep in-come when you can. There will be coffee and donuts. Last year we were finished by 11am. There will be a sign-up sheet in the Craft room or just come to the Ballroom. We especially need our experienced past decorators and those who have previously decorated a certain room. We also are open to ideas and themes. Contact a RAC member-- names listed on bulletin board in Craft room. This is a good time to meet new residents and re-acquaint with our seasonal residents. New Years Eve Celebration, Thurs. Dec 31, 8:00pm-12:30pm. To accommodate all who need their sleep, there will be 3 celebrations! East Coast 10pm, Mid- West 11pm, and AZ Time- midnight. The theme will be “Black, White and Silver Affair”. We want to assure you that does not mean you need to wear these colors. You may wear whatever you want. There will be “delights, champagne and dancing” by “ Star Entertainment.” The “delights” will be available at 8:30pm. We are going to have name tags so you will know who you are speaking to after the champagne is gone!
Tickets will be on sale starting Nov. 1 at $20.00 pp. Reserve tables available for 10 people-$200.00 (this must be paid in full at time of reservation. ) When purchasing your reserved table, please list the names of guests sitting with you. Final sales will be until Dec. 23rd. Please make checks out to “cash.” Any questions call Linda Spadafino RAC thanks 19 residents who stepped up to volunteer for the New Year’s Eve Celebration planning committee. It takes lots of support for a successful “resident- run” activity to be successful. (more information for events on first pages in newsletter.)
Thank you RAC members, Ingrid Godfrey (speaking German) and other resident volunteers for the fun, traditional Oktoberfest. Verena Forster won 1st place for the Potato Salad Cook- Off. There was Polka music, line dance music and nice “oldies to dance to.
RAC minutes for Oct. 8 and 22nd meetings are posted on RAC Bulletin Board. Next meeting Nov. 5 and an open meeting on Nov. 19 at 3pm. All r esidents welcome.

Tidbits and Happenings
Memory Garden Committee
Did you know that Dolce Vita has a Memory Garden located just outside the front gate? It was dedicated to the residents of Dolce Vita in May 2008. There is a garden path, cactus near the west pond, three benches available if you like to sit for awhile and a sweet, scenic spot with a beautiful view of the Super-stition Mountains. Groups of residents installed a garden path. The path contains nearly 150 pavers. If you care to honor your loved one you may have an engraved paver with their name and placed in the circle of love path.. The Memory Garden Form is available at the front desk.
Come see this garden on Veterans Day, Nov 11. right after the flag raising ceremony at 8:30am.(this should take about 10mn.) Three resident committees are participating in the celebration: The Sweet Life Singers, Veterans from Dolce Vita and the Memory Garden Committee. There will also be a upcoming celebration on Memorial Day in 2016. The committee is planning on using this garden for music, readings and gatherings. More information will be announced.

The Zao Theater performs at Centerstage Church, 3700 E. 16th Ave. “To Kill A Monkingbird” is playing Nov.6-7, and Nov. 13-14. There are other plays in the future. They also have discounts for groups of 10 or more.
