MONTHLY MEDITATION: … How to become wise?

There are not too many people who think that they don’t need any more wisdom,

than they have right now. Most of us would gladly receive some wisdom to better

cope with our lives, to get the most out of it. In our life we constantly need the wis-

dom.

Making decisions without the wisdom may end up with unpleasant consequences.

The wisdom is an ability to use knowledge in particular situation; it is an ability to

make a right decisions.

So the wisdom is not the knowledge. The knowledge can be obtained in a school or course. People study for

years to gain knowledge. But how you get the wisdom? In most cases the wisdom comes with your age. The

more experience you have the wiser you are. You are gaining wisdom as time passes by. In most of the cul-

tures people go for advice to elders, to people who have a lot of experience. But who is the wisest person in

the universe? Who is the eldest elder? God himself – our father! Read above verses again. How you can gain

wisdom without getting very old? Ask your God!

We have an access to the source of all the wisdom. If you ask God for the wisdom with faith, you have got it.

The only condition God requires is a faith. God is a Father and he gives willingly; if only his child will ask.

So don’t be afraid to ask him, if you will do so you will get help. You don’t have to rely on your own wisdom,

you can rely on His! .… Have Faith and become older and wiser

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS INSURANCE

Different life stages, Changing needs

You may have a long-range ex-pense for which you are saving, such as college for your children. You may be concerned about a

comfortable, worry-free retirement. You may want to protect your ability to earn a living. You may wonder if needing costly long-term care will deplete your hard-earned assets. You want to have something to leave for your wife, children or grandchildren.

At some point you may have had all of these needs on your mind. Over time, these thoughts make way for others as your needs evolve, your finances change and you get older. What is important to you at age 20, may not be at 30, or 45, or 65. What is the best way to be prepared for these changes before they happen?

One of the easiest ways to be financially ready for changes that come with different life stages is to meet annually with your professional Knights of Columbus agent, and address the needs that his analysis uncovers. This can help you be ready to face the financial challenges and issues on the road ahead.

During that annual visit, I'll take the time to review your needs, goals and budget. I'll update all beneficiaries on your policies and be sure your coverage meets your needs. I'll recommend a program of life insurance, long-term care, disability income insurance and guaranteed retirement products that will help you rest easy at night.

Whatever your needs, whatever your concerns, whatever your stage in life, I can help. Contact me today to learn more. Fraternally yours, Howard Tank

DISTRICT DEPUTY REPORT

Brother Knights

Where did October go? With membership, ID Drive, soccer challenge, and the usual council ac-tivities the month flew by. The District 5 Soccer Challenge was very successful. We had Lincoln, Auburn, and Colfax participate with a combined thirty two participants. Eleven moved on to the Chapter Soccer Challenge. A special thanks to Por-firio Perez and the Auburn Council for hosting the District 5 Soccer Challenge. You did a great job on short notice. Next year I hope all Councils will par-

ticipate in this program. The special bond between the Knights of Columbus and the youth community will stay with them the rest of their lives. The State Soccer Challenge will be on November 11th at St Patrick's - St Vincent High school at 1500 Benicia Road, Vallejo, CA. Check in time is 10-11am.

All Councils should be ordering your Coats for Kids and promoting this program. It's a great way to get involved with the community while helping out children in need of coats. There are a lot of young people who have never had a new coat...let's make a difference. I hope all Councils are actively selling their Christmas cards and magnets for the Keep Christ in Christmas program.

Thanksgiving is fast approaching. We will all be busy with family and friends and the holidays. Take time to pause and think about what we all have to be grateful for. We live in a free country. We are free to disagree with our Government thanks to our forefa-thers and their wisdom to rely on God's guidance in constructing our Constitution and establishing a Government controlled by the people. Now may God bless the people with the wisdom to do so.

God bless the Knights of Columbus. And God bless America.

SQUIRES NEWS Luncheon Fundraiser, Carmelite Nuns: Sat Oct 7th, 2017

The Fund Raiser for the Carmelite Nun’s in Georgetown organized by the Mt. Carmel Auxiliary was again a HUGE success! The Knights cooked a wonderful Italian meal, and the Auburn Squires coordinated the Youth

Groups to serve the meal and help with clean-up. Over 20 youth volunteered, and did a wonderful job, as always. Every-one enjoyed their gracious service, enthusiasm and smiles. Thank you all who made the afternoon such fun and fruitful event! Philip Fontes

LECTURER: Ron Roussey

St. Joan of Arc. I have previ-

ously written and spoke about her.

I learned much about her from a

book by Mark Twain which is

available through Ignatius Press.

This great writer thought it to be

the best of his books.

Today’s Gospel, Lk 12:39-48, brings her back to my

mind. Therein, we read of Christ’s warning to always

be prepared for the “master’s return” and from

whom much is given much is expected. There are

many times in the history of the Church when those

who were given much did not live up to expectations.

It seems, however, during each of those dark times,

the Holy Spirit brought forth others such as Sts. Igna-

tius, Francis, Neri, and Joan to pick up the load.

From St. Joan we learn one of my favorite prayers.

The Church authorities, the ones to whom much had

been given, were pestering her with questions hoping

to trap her into making some blasphemous statement.

Reminds me of the Pharisee’s constant efforts to trick

Christ into committing such an error with questions

about paying taxes to Cesar or which is the greatest

Commandment.

To St. Joan, they posed the question of

whether she believed she was in God’s

grace. She did not fall into their trap

by saying “yes” or “no”. She humbly

replied “If I am not, may it please God

to put me in it; if I am, may it please

God to keep me there.” An incredible display of hu-

mility and wisdom from an uneducated, illiterate,

teenage peasant girl.

What else I learn from her is more proof of the exis-

tence of God. There are many proofs of God’s exis-

tence commencing with the five logical proofs of-

fered by the great St. Aquinas. Those are wonderful

mental exercises. With St. Joan, however, no phi-

losophical reasoning ability is required. Hence, it

works well for me.

One just needs to be aware of the fact this adolescent

girl mounted a horse like a man and with no military

training was followed into battle by thousands of men.

She confronted Kings and all sorts of men as equals.

And this was done in a time when women, if they rode

at all, rode a horse side saddle. A time when women

were quiet and remained in the kitchen.

What explanation can there be for the miracle of her

life other than God’s will. Indeed, she must have been

“in His Grace.” We should all pray that we are also

and be ever prepared for His return.

Peace and Love, SK, Ron

Catholic Question & Answer Full Question: I am perplexed by the phrase in the Divine Mercy chaplet ,"I offer you the body and blood, soul and di-vinity, of your dearly beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world." I thought that was something only a priest could do during the sacrifice of the Mass. Surely the offering made in the Mass is different in some way than what is offered in praying this chaplet. What am I missing?

Answer: Saying that prayer is not the same as offering Mass. At Mass we participate in the one sacrifice that Jesus made for us. But because he made that sacrifice, that perfect prayer is now ours. Therefore we can always make reference to it. It is a most powerful prayer because it is his prayer. Basically, what we are saying to the Father is: "By the merits of his Passion, we ask for your mercy!"

NEWS OCTOBER

Worthy Brother Sir Knights, Still looking for a home for the bar and someone who will bring it to our meetings and help run it. Our current bar tender has resigned, will someone please step up? Our meeting in September was at St. Joseph Marello in Granite Bay. For those not in attendance (and many were not) I announced that we had two officers resign. We now have openings for a Captain and Scribe. Both of these positions are vital to the assembly and need to be filled. If you want

to volunteer let me know at the next meeting for more information on the duties on these positions feel free to e-mail or call me or any other officer. October is here and you can feel fall in the air. As we celebrate Colum-bus Day we again hear the same question: why should we celebrate Columbus Day?. The KofC web page has a great set of articles that everyone should read. http://www.kofc.org/en/news/releases/honoring-our-namesake.html On another note my replacement uniform jacket arrived and it fits! The sale price has been extended to October 31st. The cost of the pants, jacket, tie and beret is $382.50. All active color corps mem-bers get $200 from our color corps fund to help pay for the new uniform. We will be doing fundraisers to build up the color corps fund to assist any brother who wants assistance in purchasing the new uniform. The new uniform will be required for all color corps members on 7/1/18. We are having a 15 year anniversary party! S/K Ricco Ches our hospitality chairman is planning a great event for the spring. Please support his efforts with any assistance you can offer and plan on attending. Our next meeting is in Colfax. I know it is a long drive for some, ask a fellow Sir Knight Brother if he needs a ride. Your attendance is important and vital to the success of this assembly.

God bless America and God bless the Knights of Columbus. FN SK Bruce Amundson

Our Council is a very busy Council with various ac-tivities which are geared to raise funds as to assist the Church, school, Auburn community and those in need.

Most of these men are over 70 years of age … so I ask where are the younger and more able Brothers to step up and help. Happy to see in the last months that those younger Brothers are stepping up to help the Council and for that we thank you. … Listed below is a partial list of the events:

St Francis Xavier Cabrini November 13 In September 1877, Cabrini went to seek approval of the pope to establish missions in China. Instead, he sug-

gested to her that she go to the United States to help the Italian immigrants who were flooding to that nation

in that era, mostly in great poverty. "Not to the East, but to the West" was his advice.[6]

Cabrini left for the United States, arriving in New York City on March 31, 1889, along with six other sisters.[7] She encountered disappointment and difficulties at every step.[6] Archbishop Michael Corrigan, who was

not immediately supportive, found them housing at the convent of the Sisters of Charity, where they were

allowed to stay as long as necessary. She obtained the permission of the archbishop to found an orphanage,

which is located in West Park, New York today and is known as Saint Cabrini Home.

Cabrini organized catechism and education classes for the Italian immigrants and provided for the needs of

the many orphans. She established schools and orphanages despite tremendous odds. She was as resourceful as she was prayerful,

finding people who would donate what she needed in money, time, labor, and support.[8] In New York City, she founded Columbus

Hospital and Italian Hospital. In the 1980s, they were merged into Cabrini Medical Center.[4] The facility closed in 2008.

In Chicago, the sisters opened Columbus Extension Hospital (later renamed Saint Cabrini Hospital) in the heart of the city’s Italian

neighborhood on the Near West Side. Both hospitals eventually closed near the end of the 20th century. Their foundress’ name lives

on in Chicago's Cabrini Street.

She founded 67 institutions: in New York; Chicago; Des Plaines, Illinois; Seattle; New Orleans; Denver; Golden, Colorado; Los

Angeles; Philadelphia;[5] and in countries throughout South America and Europe. Long after her death, the Missionary Sisters would

achieve Cabrini's goal of being missionaries to China. In only a short time, after much social and religious upheaval there, the Sisters

left China and, subsequently, a Siberian placement.

Cabrini was naturalized as a United States citizen in 1909.[

VOCATIONS: Bill Gilsdorf:

My Brother Knights,

As Vocation Chairman for the Council I

am always saying to pray for Vocations

and of course everyone thinks of the

young men and women in the seminary or

the convent striving to be ordained or to

take their vows to Consecrated Life.

Vocation comes from the Latin word vo-

care which is translated to “calling” .

A “calling” to Religious life is understood

to be for life. That being said, we need to

support our Priests and Religious even af-

ter they are ordained or take their vows.

I would like to share with you that in Oc-

tober, Brother Knights Tim Reuter and

Ron Roussey took Fr. Cesar Ageas who

is our Pastor at St. Joseph Church and a

Brother Knight to Stampede Lake

which is up by Truckee. They had a

great day but all they caught was three

“Kokanee”.

Two weeks later, Brother Knights Ron

Roussey and Jeff Jones took Fr. Cesar on

a fishing trip to Pyramid Lake which is up

North of Sparks Nevada. As I understand

it, Fr. Cesar wore the lucky fishing hat

(see enclosed picture) that day and they

all caught a bunch of fish. Lahontan cut-

throat trout is the largest subspecies of

cutthroat trout, and the state fish of the

state of Nevada. How’s that for

“Supporting Vocations” Thanks and

God Bless , Brother Bill
