We have a vendor fair at the school on Saturday Nov. 18 th from 10:00 am unl 3:00 pm. Progress report cards will be sent home on Nov. 9 th and the week of the 13 th -17 th will be interview week, with the 16 th available for evening interviews from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Parents, it is very important to meet with your child’s teacher to monitor student learning skills and progress, see you here soon! November 2017 Winger School Newsletter

Busy month of November coming up, we have many activities and school sports in full swing. Please check agendas and the school calendar to keep up with what’s happening here. We have a vendor fair at the school on Saturday Nov. 18th from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm.

Progress report cards will be sent home on Nov. 9th and the week of the 13th -17th will be interview week, with the 16th available for evening interviews from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Parents, it is very important to meet with your child’s teacher to monitor student learning skills and progress, see you here soon!

Loading and Unloading Bus Zones

Please do not park at anytime along the front sidewalk. This area is zoned for loading and unloading of the

buses only. Thank you for keeping our parking lot safe.

Emergency Medical Information

Please inform the school of any serious allergies (asthma, bee stings, peanut, nuts, milk and medi-

cations, etc.) or any serious health concerns. The District School Board of Niagara requires that

you complete an “Emergency Action Plan and Physician’s Authorization” in order for medication,

which must be signed by your child’s physician, to be given at school. These forms may be ob-

tained from the office .

Hot Lunch at Winger

Pizza days at Winger are Fridays, unless there is a PA Day, and then it will

fall on the Thursday of that week. $1.00 per slice. This month pizza days

are Friday November 3, 10,Thursday Nov. 16 and Friday 24 December

1st.

NO Hot Lunch Lady for the month of December.

Breakfast Club

Winger School volunteers are hard at work serving our students with a nutritious

breakfast on Tuesday and Thursday mornings as they arrive to school. Thank you to

Niagara Nutrition Partners for supporting this well appreciated meal for all our stu-

dents. Thank you also goes to the many volunteers that help us out every Tuesday and

Thursday. We appreciate all the extras you do for our students.

From Mr. Sacco’s Grade 7 Class

In Mr. Sacco’s class we have been focusing our attention on Geometry in Mathe-

matics. We have been working on constructing related lines (intersecting, per-

pendicular, and parallel) using tools and manipulatives. We are also working to

classify triangles, quadrilaterals, and prisms and we are developing an under-

standing of the similarity and congruence of shapes.

In Language we have been focusing on the characteristics of news reports and we

are writing reports of our own. We are also learning how to recognize purpose

and audience in our reading activities. In Science, we are continuing to investigate

many concepts of Pure Substance and Mixtures, such as solubility and saturation,

as well as how to separate mixtures.

In Phys. Ed. we have continued to practice and develop the fundamentals of vol-

leyball and have been enjoying participating in many close scrimmage games. In

the Arts we have been responding to Design Challenges and will be creating

dance pieces to respond to specific rhythms and pieces of music.

Poinsettia sales have begun at Winger School. We are selling 8”

Red Poinsettias from Green Acres Greenhouse for $15.00 each.

Order from one of our students or you can order on school cash

on-line. Due date for all poinsettia orders is Friday November

24th, delivery date is Thursday November 30th.

WINGER SCHOOL IS HAVING A WINTER VENDOR FAIR

Winger School is selling Cookie Dough Campaign begins Tuesday November 7th and ends Tuesday November 21st. All orders will then be pro-cessed and cookie dough will be delivered December 19th, just in time for the holiday season. Watch for the booklets to come home .

From Mr.Lynett’s Grade 3 class

In Language we have been working on reading and writing non-fiction texts. We are

learning about text features that include sub-titles, index, photographs, captions, dia-

grams, glossary, labels and fact files. We are learning to write a nonfiction paragraph that

includes an opening sentence, detail sentences and a closing sentence. Mrs. Kolbinson

(LRT) and Mrs. Higgins (Learning Coach) are taking a group, three days each cycle.

In Math, we are learning about 2-D and 3-D shapes. Students should be familiar with the

terms congruent, right angle, pentagon, hexagon, trapezoid, rhombus, faces, edges and

vertices. In November, we will be looking at temperature (C)and perimeter.

Grade 8 Students and Parents: Save the Date!

Starting high school is a huge step in a student's life.

While it's definitely an exciting time, it also brings with it many questions, such as "What's life in high school really like? What

programs and options are available to help me achieve my goals?"

A great way to have your questions answered is to attend an open house. Grade 8 students and their families are invited to

attend High School Open Houses from November 27-30.

Details about open houses will be shared with parents/guardians mid-October.
