Ofsted Report Dear Parents and Carers, I am delighted to be able to announce that we have received a ‘Good’ grading from Ofsted following our inspection in October. We have been identified in the report as being a rapidly improving school; following our record set of GCSE results in August of this year. The report acknowledges that the leaders and all staff have driven improvement relentlessly and that our determination and the positive ethos we have created is helping to promote further improvement. The report states that better teaching over the past two years has meant that recent outcomes have improved and overall, current pupils are making good progress. The report also states that pupils with special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities also make good progress. The inspectors noted that the atmosphere in the school had been transformed by staff through the raising of expectations of pupils’ behaviour. Pupils appreciated the clear rules that are now in place and the consistency with which teachers applied them. The result being the significant improvement of pupils' behaviour since the last inspection. The Ofsted inspectors acknowledged the effective partnership between the school, the Interim Executive Board (IEB) and Swale Academies Trust. Swale’s aim is to effectively support and challenge the school’s leaders, with Mr Trimmer, Executive Headteacher working closely with the school to achieve this. The report noted that he has ensured that the school’s leaders have benefited from the wider expertise within the trust and has successfully recruited, developed and retained high-quality leaders, teachers and other staff, while being part of a wider network of secondary schools, enabling leaders and teachers to improve their skills. Penny Gaunt, chair of the IEB has said: "I am pleased that Ofsted recognised the significant improvements to the quality of provision at PCS and the good progress pupils now make with their learning". I am looking forward to fully addressing all points that were noted as still requiring some improvement by the report – pupil attendance, continuing the rise in achievement and improving the consistency and strengthening the quality of teaching – but every single one of these areas had already been identified and we hope to see a marked improvement in each as the Autumn Term comes to an end. As we work through a very busy final few weeks of the term I look forward to seeing you all at our various events. Please see the calendar for details of these, including our show ‘Grease’ and our Winter Fair. Rachel Joseph - Head of School newsletter November 2018

Ofsted ReportDear Parents and Carers,I am delighted to be able to announce that we have received a ‘Good’ grading from Ofsted following our inspection in October.

The inspectors noted that the

atmosphere in the school had been transformed by staff through the raising of expectations of pupils’ behaviour.

The report noted that he has ensured that the school’s leaders have benefited from the wider expertise within the trust and has successfully recruited, developed and retained high-quality leaders, teachers and other staff, while being part of a wider network of secondary schools, enabling leaders and teachers to improve

their skills.

It gives me great pleasure to officially announce that all of our DofE participants successfully completed the expedition section of their DofE Bronze Award over the 21st and 22nd September.

All students demonstrated great resilience, teamwork, support, hard work and determination and everyone completed the expedition with big smiles and humour. We are massively proud of them all!

Huge congratulations to you all from the School, Mr Gates and Mr Prouse and all at Bright Expeditions.

We are now planning to complete the rest of the sections by Christmas. We will be supporting students by running DofE sessions after school every Tuesday from 3 to 4, starting on the first Tuesday back after half

Successful Expedition Completion

I am getting in touch to congratulate you on the efforts of both your staff and students on their Bronze DofE expeditions this year. Both myself and my instructors were extremely impressed with the enthusiasm, resilience and commitment shown by all students on both expeditions. As you can imagine we work with a range of different young people from different schools. I don't usually get in touch with Head Teachers about expeditions, but for me, Peacehaven really stood out and completely reminded me of why I do what I do which is introducing young people to the outdoors and seeing them enjoy new experiences. Both Nick and Danny were extremely committed and enthusiastic all the way through and immensely supportive of both their students and our instructors. Please pass on my congratulations to both the staff and students and a very much deserved 'Well Done!' Kind regards, Jacquie HarcusDirector - Bright Expeditions

term. If anyone cannot attend please see Mr Gates to arrange another meeting time.

If we manage to sign off everyone by Christmas, we are hoping to have a celebration event for students, parents, carers and staff in January. We will keep you posted!

Can I also take this opportunity to thank parents and carers for supporting your young people through this, through carpooling, giving up your time, buying equipment and food and being so supportive of both your young people and us. Danny and I really appreciate it.

Many thanks Nick Gates and Danny Prowse.

Autumn Concert It was their first concert at PCS and they all rose to the occasion in front of their parents and carers.

From Year 8, we had an amazing performance of `Let it Be` from Bronwyn, Abigail, Jack and Fynlee who learnt this song in class.

Music veterans Zac, Freddie and Mac performed `If I had a Gun` and `Live Forever` and Freddie played and sung his first solo performance at PCS. Isabelle, Jade, Maisy and Emily performed a beautiful arrangement of `A Thousand Years` with vocal harmonies.

Courtney, Finn, Malachi, Ruby, Rome, Louis and Archie in Year 9 performed `Zombie`, their own composition and `Boulevard of Broken Dreams` as two separate bands with the support of Max on bass.

On Thursday 18th October,

students from PCS performed in

the Autumn concert.

Over twenty Year 7 students

performed `Sing`, the 80s hit

`Down Under` and `Tonight`s

Gonna be a Good Night` with

gusto.

There were also

impassioned solo performances

from Nathan in Year 11 and Florence

who sung `A Team` and

accompanied herself on the ukulele.

Well done to all the performers

who did themselves proud.

“What a beautiful music concert!

All the performances were a joy. Big

well done to Team Music for

summoning from somewhere enough

post-Ofsted energy to produce a

tribute to everything that is wonderful

about our school.

I am glowing with pride tonight.”

Year 7 Football Tournament Reports

We took part in the

Dorothy Stringer Football

tournament in Brighton.

We played against some strong

teams and despite the wet

weather conditions all the boys

gave 100% and tried their best

but we were not able to progress

On Wednesday 7th November, the girls played in a 5-a-side tournament at Dorothy Stringer school.

Despite the cold and rainy weather, we carried on and managed to come second out of 8 teams. To start off our tournament, our team won 3-0 however in our second match, we lost 1-0 in a very close game. In our third and fourth match, we persevered to win 2-1 and 2-0.

In the semi-finals, we managed a good 1-0 win with help from the boys’ team who were helpfully supporting from the side-lines. Unfortunately, we conceded in the last minute of the final and lost 1-0 however, we battled well throughout the whole match.

Overall, the girls played really well showing great determination and collaboration as well as good football skills.

through to the semi finals.

Jack made some great saves

in goal and Connor managed to get

us on the score sheet. The defence

and the midfield players all worked

hard against some strong

opponents.

The top two teams in the final were

Dorothy Stringer and Cardinal

Newman and that game went to

penalties with Newman winning

overall.

Well done to the girls team for

finishing in second place and also a

big thank you to Mr Thomsett and

Miss Bennett for taking us all, we

tried our best and hopefully next

time we will be able to progress

further.

Y8 Match ReportOn Tuesday 2nd October, the Year 8 PCS football team had their home debut vs Varndean.

It was a one sided game from the start. Our strikers were running rings around their defence, our midfield was passing through their team and our defence just sat back and dealt the ball with class when it came to them.

We were creating all the chances you could ask for, but something was just not working. We were pounding at the door and we eventually got a reply. It was just then, Theo made something out of nothing and the ball was pelted into the top right corner and we were one - nil up. Almost minutes later, Freddie scored a fantastic header from a corner, putting us two nil up.

We carried on performing well and sent two more goals in: another from Theo and one from Tom. That took us to half time.

From there the standard went up. Louis scored two screamers from a good range, Ben scored his first goal for PCS and our substitutes worked their socks off, sealing the win.

The game ended in a 7-0 win for the PCS squad. I am very proud of the boys and I hope we can carry on winning these games.

I would also like to quickly congratulate Ben and Connor

because they did a great job on what was only their second game for PCS.

TommyYear 8 Captain

On the 24th September the Year 10 PCS football team played Blatchington Mill School at home.

From kick-off we kept playing great football and amazingly scored four goals in the first 10 minutes of the game.

We played very comfortably

throughout the rest of the half keeping a strong defence and attacking with force. This paid off as PCS scored another two before the end of the half.

In the second half we were still putting pressure on Blatchington and managing to keep them in their own half. We played good football and scored numerous goals to make it 8-0. Blatchington managed to bring it back by scoring two late goals by PCS losing concentration to take the score to 8-2. Just before the final whistle PCS managed to score a final goal to make the final score 9-2
