Entrances and Exits: Photography by Sheryl D. Sinkow

The first Shakespearean play I remember seeing was “As You Like It” in junior high school. We had to memorize the soliloquy “All the world’s a stage…” and while I don’t recall it in total, the lines And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances; has stayed with me – thus the series.

by capturing and sharing these moments. Through photography we balance our technical proficiency and artistic vision to work in harmony as Husband and Wife. As an outlet it allows us to mute our daily worries and pay attention to the subject.

We love to practice all types of photography, especially securing images of the natural world. The uncontrollable spirit of nature exercises our patience and per-sistence as well as our photography skills.”

Culture in Art by Clara Weber

Clara Weber is a fourteen-year-old freshman at Ithaca High School. She’s an Ithaca native, and has lived in the Fall Creek area her entire life. Clara has always loved art and music, and is in both the IHS Concert Band and Choir, as well as the Cayuga Chamber Youth Orchestra. This is her first event as a visual artist. In her free time, Clara participates in the IHS Kpop Dance Club and Performance Team. Since Kpop made it into the United States, its popularity has skyrocketed here and around the world. It has greatly affected the spread of Korean culture, and Clara aims to contin-ue that through her art. The portraits included in this exhibit show various stars from the Kpop industry, digitally painted. Each portrait can take from 1.5 hours to around 4, with full color. Clara finds inspiration and motivation for her art in the many creative minds in the Kpop and general art communities in Ithaca, and is very excited to share her art with you!.

The Bright, The Bleak, The Enigmatic: Art of Haiti

This exhibition features works by contemporary artists trained in the studio of renowned painter Philomé Obin and the related Arc-en-ciel studio in the port city of Cap Haïtien. Artists from northern Haiti grow up highly conscious of the major historical events that took place in Cap Haïtien, where a successful slave revolution succeeded in establishing a free Black nation. Many of the vibrantly colorful works commemorate that era. Others depict more recent times in the city and the coun-tryside, containing clues to deeper insight into ordinary life and intimations of the spiritual. Works from the collection of local scholar LeGrace Benson are included with works commissioned to support two Haitian public schools through proceeds from sales; visit www.artshaiti.com. CSMA faculty musicians Dave Streeter (piano) and John Bunge (banjo) will perform original jazz in the gallery on Gallery Night, influenced by Haitian culture and the art on view.

Recent Work by Alyssa DeLucci

Alyssa DeLucci was born and raised in Carmel, NY. She is currently attending Cornell Univer-sity’s College of Veterinary Medicine, and will be graduating in 2019 with her DVM. Growing up, she enjoyed recreating realistic images with colored pencil and paint, but recently she has focused on abstract artwork. Abstract artwork leaves the artist with nothing but the composition and color selection to invoke emotion in their audience. Not only was abstract art a new concept to her, so was the difficult medium of resin. Resin is an epoxy, and the pieces in this gallery were created by combining multiple layers of resin with ink, paints, spray paint, and pigment powders, creating a glass-like finish.

Also on November 2: Join us for the release of #BAGELPUPS 2019—a very special calendar featuring CTB customers’ cute canine companions! The calendars will be sold at all CTB locations with 100% of proceeds going to support Challenge Workforce Solutions in their mission of creating pathways to employment for people with disabilities and other barriers. Stop by our reception from 5:00 to 8:00 PM to get your copy hot off the press, enjoy some delectable refreshments, and maybe even meet some of the featured models!

20. Press Cafe118 W Green St | facebook.com/ithacapress Reminders of Nature at Home and on the Road by Jesse LepakI have always appreciated nature, and pursued my passion, earning MS and PhD degrees at Cornell in the Department of Natural Resources. I began wood burning in 2009 and quickly began to enjoy the relaxing and creative outlet of pyrography. I attempt to use my hand-crafted pieces to capture and share my appreciation for subjects found throughout areas where I have enjoyed spending my time, experiencing and learning about the outdoors. When sepia cannot capture a subject appropriately, I add color. Thus, you will see some of my pieces with acrylic, watercolor, or even my own coffee stain.

Elemental Celtic Mandalas by Gaia Woolf-Nightingall

Gaia Woolf-Nightingall is a British born visual artist, writer and organic Horticultur-ist.

Gaia began her artistic journey exploring the rolling blanket bog lands of Éire.

Where ancient standing stones and Pictish monuments raised by the beloved ancestors of the now living, weaved magic, myth and nature together as one. Meditative Elemental mandalas imbued with sacred intention bring colour and design to our flourishing understanding and kinship with the elements of life. Air, Fire, Water and Earth, each woven together with ancient Celtic symbols, express divine purpose and will.
