First Sunday of Advent
Annual Catholic Appeal As of today, $71,772 has been raised by St Joseph Parish for the Annual Catholic Appeal. That amount represents about 130% of our parish goal of $55,346. However, it only repre-sents the participation of 38% of our families. Fr Brian has challenged all the families in the parish to participate. If you have not already done so, please consider making a pledge or donation to the ACA. Remember that any amount contributed over and above our parish goal of $55,346 comes back to the parish ($16,426 thus far!!). Thank you!!
A Gentle Reminder When you are getting ready to come to Mass remind yourself what the Mass actually is: the most perfect prayer, the union of heaven and earth. We are guests of the King of the Uni-verse at his heavenly banquet! Please try to dress accordingly. Thank you.
Jesse Tree Ornaments A Jesse Tree is a way of preparing for Christmas by journey-ing through the stories on Jesus’s family tree. Each day of Advent a Bible story is read about someone on the family tree of Jesus and an ornament is hung on the tree that symbolizes their story. As the tree is decorated we see how God prepared for Jesus to be born through many generations. The Jesse Tree tradi-tion is rooted in Isaiah 11:1that says, “A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.” Jesse was the father of David, Israel’s greatest king. And Jesus is descended from the line of David. He is the branch God promised would grow on Jesse’s family tree.
The children in our Religious Education program have been working on ornaments that will be used to decorate the tree in the parish dining room. The ornaments will be hung on the tree at the Keep Christ in Christmas event this Sunday, De-cember 1st. Join us!
Feast of the Immaculate Conception Please Note: Father Brian will say Mass on Mon-day, December 9th at 10:00 AM in observance of the holyday of obligation.

Religious Education A child approached me and asked, “What am I supposed to
do during this prayer time? I’m not sure I know how to pray!” Most students, after being asked, revealed that they had little or no experience of prayer outside of the traditional prayers they were required to memorize or prayers that were
written down in a book. As religious educators we have an opportunity to reach our students by teaching them how to talk to the Lord from their hears and their minds. One way we can do this is by leading students to experience many rich forms and expressions of prayer. As students gain confidence with different types of prayer, they are more likely to incor-porate some of these into their own prayer life. When we make prayer and spirituality a priority, we will discover a better balance between the head and the heart. And we will see our students become enriched in spirituality, leading them to a lifetime of spontaneous prayer. What a gift!

Crafts Needed for Christmas Bazaar The Community Outreach Circle of the Women’s Guild would like to thank you for your support of our efforts in the
past year which allowed us to support sev-eral local charities. In order to continue our good work in 2020 we will be holding our annual Christmas Craft Bazaar and Bake Sale again this year. This event
serves as our only fundraiser for the year. The Bazaar will be held on December 14th and 15th. We need your handcrafted items and baked goods for the sale.
If you have any crafts you could contribute to the sale please contact Leslie Field at [email protected] or (209) 985-7825 and let her know what you have.
Maybe baking is more your thing. Lucky for you there is a Bake Sale in conjunction with the Craft Bazaar. If you can contribute some delicious home-baked goods, please let Leslie know that as well. Thank you!!
