31st Sunday Ordinary Time ~ While dining at the house of one of the leading Pharisees Jesus tells all
in attendance a parable. This parable was not planned. Rather, it was the result of something that took
place at this meal. The gospel tells us: “the people were observing him (Jesus) carefully” while he
(Jesus) was “noticing how they were choosing places of honor at the table.” Kind of harmless it would
seem. Not to Jesus. Jesus recognized something so common about people and also something so detrimental to their
interior life. Seeking praise and honor; trying to be noticed or recognized; wanting to be first or most important –
these are behaviors that we so easily can spend a lot of effort trying to achieve. Jesus points out on a social level how
embarrassing it can be when we mistakenly assume our importance in the eyes of others – which can lead to our
being “put in our place” and humbled. Far better, he says, to assume a humble place and perhaps find ourselves
exalted, praised, lifted up to a higher place and then to enjoy the esteem of others. But I suspect that there is more at
play here. What happens to that interior place within us when we are seeking, plotting, planning, trying to achieve
and get from others some sense of our personal importance? Is it important how others see us? Is it more important
how we see ourselves? Most important of all, might we not be just a little bit concerned how God sees us? Of course,
always with love, with compassion, with mercy, with peace! Father Perry Leiker, Pastor

ELAPC,a pro-life non-profit organization
will be holding their Annual Baby Bottle
Drive here. They will distribute baby
bottles outside the Church for your
contributions which help greatly not only
in providing with several services to mothers and
babies, but in saving the lives of our most vulnerable
members of society! They will be back to collect them
on the weekend of December 9, & 10. For information

Last weekend we took up our 3rd “I ♥ St. Bernie” collection. This was #3 of 4 collections. Our total was $3,516. Thank you so much for you wonderful and generous
support. I remind all of us the reason for this special 2nd collection. It is to supplement the General Funds out of which we supply all of the materials, heating and air-conditioning, all light and power and water, all salaries and benefits, etc. It is no easy task caring for all of the material needs of a parish. With all of us working together we will continue to strengthen the financial vitality of our parish and continue to care for the future of our parish. Our final St. Bernie collection will be the last Sunday of the Church Year on the Feast of Christ the King – November 26th. This will be our $100 collection!

31 Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario ~ Mientras cenaba en la casa de uno de los principales Fariseos, Jesús les cuenta
una parábola a todos los presentes. Esta parábola no fue planeada. Más bien, fue el resultado de algo que tuvo lugar
en esa cena. El evangelio nos dice: "la gente lo estaba observando (a Jesús) cuidadosamente" mientras él (Jesús)
"notaba cómo estaban eligiendo lugares de honor en la mesa". Parecía algo inofensivo, pero no para Jesús. Jesús reconoció algo tan común
acerca de las personas y también algo tan perjudicial para su vida interior. Buscaban alabanza y honor; tratando de ser notados o
reconocidos; querían ser los primeros o los más importantes: estos son comportamientos con los que fácilmente podemos esforzarnos
para lograrlo. Jesús señala a nivel social cuán embarazoso puede ser cuando asumimos erróneamente nuestra importancia ante los ojos de
los demás, lo que puede llevarnos a ser "puestos en nuestro lugar" y a ser humillados. Mucho major dice, que asumamos un lugar humilde
y tal vez seamos enaltecidos, elogiados y elevados, para luego disfrutar de la estima de los demás. Pero sospecho que hay más en juego
aquí. ¿Qué le sucede a ese lugar interior dentro de nosotros mismos cuando buscamos, planificamos, e intentamos alcanzar y obtener de
los demás algún sentido de nuestra importancia personal? ¿Es importante cómo nos ven los demás? ¿Es más importante cómo nos vemos
a nosotros mismos? Lo más importante de todo es que ¿no debería preocuparnos un poco cómo nos ve Dios? Por supuesto, ¡siempre con

"Amo a San Bernie"
El pasado fin de semana se llevó a cabo nuestra
tercer colecta “I ♥ St. Bernie”. Esta fue la #3
de 4 colectas. Nuestro total fue $3,516. Muchas
gracias por su maravilloso y generoso apoyo. Les recuerdo a
todos el motivo de esta segunda colecta especial. Es para
complementar los Fondos Generales de los cuales
suministramos todos los materiales, calefacción y aire
acondicionado, luz, energía y agua, todos los salarios y
beneficios, etc. No es tarea fácil cuidar de todas las
necesidades materiales de una parroquia. Trabajando todos
juntos, continuaremos fortaleciendo nuestras finanzas y
seguiremos cuidando del futuro de nuestra parroquia. Nuestra
colecta final de San Bernie será el último domingo del Año de
la Iglesia en la Fiesta de Cristo Rey, 26 de Noviembre. ¡Esta
será nuestra colecta de $100.

CENTRO DE EMBARAZOS ~ CAMPAÑA DEL BIBERÓN
El f in de semana del 11, y 12 de Noviembre, ELAPC , una organización pro-vida sin f ines de lucro estará aquí para su ‘Campaña Anual del Biberón’ . Estarán repartiendo biberones afuera de la Iglesia para sus contribuciones que ayudan a proveer varios servicios a las mujeres embarazadas en

NOVENA DE MISAS PARA LOS FIELES DIFUNTOS
Todavía pude incluir los nombres de sus seres
queridos para el Novenario de Los Fieles
Difuntos. Favor de usar los sobres especiales
que se encuentran en las mesas junto al altar y
deposítelos en la canasta de la colecta.
TABLERO DE MILITARES
Para el Día de los Veteranos, 11 de Noviembre,
la Sociedad del Altar actualizará el tablero que
ilustra el personal activo Militar de Veteranos. Si
tiene algún familiar sirviendo a nuestro país y
desea que su fotografía aparezca en el tablero,
traiga una foto a la rectoría antes del 10 de
Noviembre para ser colocada en el tablero. Por favor, indique
la Rama de Servicio, nombre y su Rango Militar. También
incluya su nombre y número de contacto en la parte posterior
de la foto.
Las Oficinas de la Parroquia permanecerán
cerradas este Viernes 10 de Noviembre en
observancia del Día de los Veteranos.
LECTURAS PARA EL PRÓXIMO DOMINGO
Primera lectura — La sabiduría la encuentran los que la buscan
(Sabiduría 6:12-16). Salmo — Mi alma está sedienta de ti, oh Señor,

como los que no tienen esperanza (1 Tesalonicenses 4:13-18 [13-
14]). †Evangelio — Las vírgenes necias no estaban preparadas para

El miedo es un motivador poderoso, y desafortunadamente, aviva el

to speak up, especially if the abuser is someone they know. Abusers can use close
relationships to inspire fear of retaliation and may also stress that no one will believe

DÍA DE ACCIÓN DE GRACIAS / SAN VICENTE DE PAUL
La Sociedad de San Vicente de Paul estará
aceptando aplicaciones de las familias de
bajos recursos de nuestra parroquia para el
Día de Acción de Gracias. Esto será el
jueves, 9 de Noviembre de la 1:00p.m. a las
6:00p.m. en el Centro Pastoral, y el sábado 11 de Noviembre,
de las 9:00a.m. a las 12 del mediodía en la Rectoría. Los
aplicantes deberán traer alguna forma identificación.
PROYECTO “ANGEL TREE”
Este proyecto a nivel nacional conecta a los padres que estan en prisión con sus niños durante la temporada de Navidad. El fin de semana del 18 y 19 de Noviembre, se
colocará una mesa afuera de la Iglesia para empezar este proyecto. Usted podrá recoger una etiqueta para comprar un regalo para uno de estos niños. De igual manera se necesitarán voluntarios para envolverlos y entregarlos a los niños. Favor de llamar a la oficina de la Iglesia para ponerlos en contacto con Mary Trujillo.

SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL THANKSGIVING
Members of the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul will begin their program to assist low-
income families from our parish for
Thanksgiving Day. They will be accepting
applications on Thursday November 9,
from 1:00pm to 6:00pm at the Pastoral Center and on Saturday,
Nov., 11 from 9:00a.m. to 12:00 noon at the church office. All
applicants need to bring some form of personal identification with
them.
PROJECT ‘ANGEL TREE’
Please join us in the collective purchasing of gifts for children who have one or both parents currently in prison. ANGEL TREE is a national program connecting parents in prison with their children through the delivery
of Christmas gifts. When the gifts are given to the children, a Gospel presentation is shared. On the weekend of November 18 & 19 after all the Masses, there will be a table set up for Project ‘ANGEL TREE’ ’. You may pick up an “Angel Tag” to purchase gifts. Volunteers are needed in the help of wrapping and distributing the gifts and Gospel to these children. For more information please contact Mary Trujillo through the Church Office.
