Thanks to all who helped with the sausage sizzle.
Nils reports we have banked $840 on sale of raffle tickets, and $300 on BBQ. Damien the Sandridge wheel chair sponsorship day will commence at 9am on Tues Nov 29. The children will walk to Seaworks and push a wheelchair around a course inside the building. There are 14 wheelchairs so each class of children will be able to participate together. At 1pm, the whole school will return to Seaworks for the final presentation, and amount raised will be announced. There will be a BBQ of which we are cooking. Set up is to be before 9am so any helpers will be appreciated. The children have already raised $400 for the project which is 2 wheel chairs. The children will also have a stall at our Xmas fair where they will be asking for donations for “Care Packages” of which they have put together for our communities homeless. The children’s “Care Packages” are shoe boxes containing donated hygiene products. These can be purchased at their stall at our Xmas Fair and placed under their Xmas tree, until they are distributed amongst the homeless as gifts. A young 19 year old man by the name of Jacob will be attending the Ryla Camp and then will guest speak at one of our meetings. If you are interested in attending the Ryla dinner on Thurs Dec 1 please see Damien.
Murray thanks our attendance at Monday evening’s Foundation dinner. We were the largest Club represented. Somewhere between $900 and $1400 was raised for the Foundation. It was a great and informative night, and the format was effective and enjoyed by Club’s in attendance. Murray will be attending a meeting in Echuca and will be catching up with past President Geoff Tighe. Tony initiated a positive discussion on the possibility of our Club and the Point Gellibrand Club merging. Further details were to be discussed by board members at the Thurs board meeting. George confirms President Elect to be Damien Hynes, other positions to be established. Eddie advised our Xmas function will be a joint affair with the Point Gellibrand Club at Pelican’s Landing Mon Dec 12, please diarise.
Kathy reminds us of the following upcoming events.

GROUP VOCATIONAL EXCHANGE TEAM FROM DISTRICT
3820
Our District will be welcoming a Group Vocational Exchange Team from District 3820 in the Philippines in March next year. In a departure from previous practice, the vocational program for our visitors is to be arranged and managed by the Vocational Service team, and that is why I am contacting you. The team is comprised of a nurse involved in health education, a paediatric dentist interested in dental disease prevention, a microbiologist involved in water quality management, and a water/sanitation engineer currently engaged in environmental management.
We are very keen to know whether, within your club, you may have members or contacts who may be able to assist the District Vocational Committee to arrange vocational placements for short periods (one or more days) or, alternatively, vocational visits, for any of the above occupations.
If you are able to assist can you please respond to Philip Rowell of the District Vocational Service Committee at [email protected].
If you need any further information regarding the GVE visit please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thanks for your support, Alan Seale

FOUNDATION
FACTS
OUR FOUNDATION’S FOUNDER – ARCH KLUMPH
As all Rotarians know, Rotary was conceived by Paul Harris in 1905 but the father of Rotary’s Foundation, Arch Klumph, the 7th President of Rotary International, is less well known. He too played an important role in, not only the Foundation, but the structure of Rotary as we know it today.
Arch was a self-made man, valuing education and the capacity to make a difference. He was born in 1869 and left school at the age of 12 because of his family’s poverty. He studied bookkeeping in his spare time, walking 6 km each way after work to study. His diligence and persistence paid off and, at the age of only 29, he became president of the lumber company where he had started as an office boy. By the time he turned 40, he owned the company. Eventually, he owned a bank and two major real estate companies. But he was not just a businessman. He served on numerous civic organisations and was a self-taught flute player and played with the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra.
At the Rotary Convention in 1917, Arch famously said “It seems eminently proper that we should accept endowments for the purpose of doing good in the world, in charitable, educational or other avenues of community progress …”. And so, began our Foundation and its motto, “Doing Good in the World”.

Dear Rotarians and Friends
This is a short note to give you an update of the Rotary D9800 Conference in Shepparton in 2017. We have a great range of speakers and entertainers on our program and you can see their details on our website. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates (https://www.facebook.com/D9800Conference/). If you haven't registered yet, there are discounts and concessions available for early bird registration. These apply to bookings made and paid for by November 30th, so get in quick while the offer lasts. Registrations can be made through our website www.rotaryconference.org.au . If you have registered, check out the website for ideas about pre and post conference tours. Of particular note is a visit to the cellar door of our Official Wine Supplier, Tallis Wines. The wine, food and views are great and there is a walking trail for the energetic. Tallis is offering visitors discounts of 10% if you buy 6 bottles of wine at the cellar door and 25% if you join their wine club. I hope this update is useful and I look forward to seeing you in Shepparton in 2017. Yours in Rotary Kevin Love Conference Chair
