The reason for this change of venue is simply a matter of costs. When the Centre was booked for our previously planned production last year the cost was challenging but reasonable. The Players have now been informed that the hire fee has risen to a rate which we consider is far too high to be economically viable. We are unable to justify the increased cost in terms of being able to keep production costs under control. CHANGE OF VENUE

St Jude’s Players regret to inform you that the above production will not be staged in the Brighton Performing Arts Centre as previously announced.

We are extremely disappointed not to have the opportunity of performing in such an excellent and well equipped modern theatre as the “luxury” would have been nice to experience. However, we remain more focused on continuing to provide quality theatre at an affordable price to our valued patrons.

A Chorus Of Disapproval (directed by Kym Clayton) will now be staged in our own St Jude’s Hall with an extended season of 14th - 16th and 20th - 23rd November.

IAN RIGNEY RETURNS TO ST JUDE’S PLAYERS

Adelaide theatre identity Ian Rigney is back at St Jude’s Players to direct the mad-cap farce The Fox On The Fairway.

The memory of his hilarious production of See How They Run (2011) still makes many of our patrons laugh. Ian has a special “magic” when it comes to directing a comedy or a farce.

He says; “If you are looking for a play with deep and meaningful themes, The Fox On The Fairway is not for you. It has all the wonderful elements of pure farce – what better way to keep away the winter blues.”

Since See How They Run Ian directed the highly successful Death By Chocolate for the Therry Society.

He has also had a most exciting trip to China including Beijing and a “stroll” along the Great Wall. He actually experienced a sleigh ride in a Siberian forest on Christmas morning.

However, St Jude’s Players is glad he eventually came home and is willing to take on another “happy adventure” for The Players.

“ A GOOD WINE SHOULD START AND END WITH A SMILE ” Lord Byron And so should a St Jude’s Players production ! We make the good wine readily available at our Foyer Bar before each show and during the interval.

A glass of RedRed,, White or BubblyBubbly costs just $5 and you are welcome to take your glass into the Hall during the performance.

Our wines come from the renowned cellars of Hugh Hamilton Wines and are heartily recommended.

Coffee, tea, orange juice and biscuits are also available from the kitchen servery during intermission.

PLAYERS - PUBLICITY - PROMOTION Dear readers,

This is an open letter to you our valued supporters.

I have been a member of St Jude’s Players for 46 years, have directed 34 major productions and been a committee member for most of those years. It is now time for me to “exit right” and stand down from my current position as publicity officer at the 2014 annual general meeting.

So, this letter is a request for someone to consider standing for this position next year.

You would work with me for the rest of this year to “learn the ropes”. I will also be available to assist you during the first year of your term on the committee.

The position entails writing and producing Spotlight four times a year, preparation and distribution of releases to the press and electronic media, producing and booking advertisements and arranging press and on-air interviews for directors and/or cast members.

We have an excellent graphic designer to help with poster, leaflet and program designs. Other players also contribute to the management of our all-important Website and Facebook.

If you are interested to find out more (and I sincerely hope you are) please contact me by the email below.

OUR LAST PRODUCTION - “FIRST CLASS THEATRE” SAID THE CRITICS

Our recent production of Visiting Mr Green has brought some high praise from audiences and critics alike. This powerful and moving comedy/drama was directed by Brian Knott with a cast of two – Martin Wright and Alex King.

Adelaide Theatre Guide: “St Jude’s Players should be commended for once again touching on topics that are very deep and personal for some people. The two actors develop a great chemistry on stage. The message of acceptance is conveyed well.”

Glam Adelaide: “Martin Wright and Alex King present a superb two-hander. Towards the latter part of the piece a few sniffles, and a rustle or two of tissues, attested to how strongly they created their characters and how completely the audience had come to believe in them.”

Encore – Theatre Association of SA Magazine: “The set is wonderfully designed by Normajeane Ohlsson. Brian Knott has pulled together a beautifully and sentimental story that had me reaching for the tissues. A story told this well should not be missed.”
