Top Five Things about the new initiative facts about GED 20/20
We are here to answer a
few questions regarding
the recent announcement
of a new GED testing ini-
tiative. Based on President
Obama's goal for the U.S.
to have the highest pro-
portion of college gradu-
ates in the world by the
year 2020, this initiative
will enhance the GED test-
ing program in an effort to
serve more adults and to
serve them better:
1.There will not be a new
GED Test until the year
2020. FICTION
The number "2020" is only
a reflection of the goals
President Obama has set
for the country. GED
Testing Service is already
developing a plan to up-
date the GED Test well
before the year 2020.

The paper and pencil dis-
tribution system for the
GED Test will remain in
place until further notice.
GED Testing Service is
only beginning to pilot
computer-based testing
comparability studies with
certain jurisdictions in or-
der to understand its pos-
sibilities.
3.The new testing program
is interested in preparing
GED graduates for college.
FACT
The end goal for GED
testing is for the adult to
earn a sustainable living.
Many careers require addi-
tional school or training
and the GED testing pro-
gram must prepare those
adults who
are inter-
ested in
attending
college.
4.GED
Test scores will expire Jan.

The national policy states
that scores will continue
to be combinable after Jan.
1, 2012 as long as all the
content area tests com-
pleted were within the
2002 Series GED Tests.
5.The new testing program
will include preparation
materials to help students
reach new goals. FACT
GED Testing Service is
aware of the substantial
effort, or lift, required to
move high school drop-
outs from their current
educational functioning
level (EFL) to the GED
Test—or college and career
-ready levels, and is working
to ensure preparation ma-
terials and systems are de-
veloped in parallel with the
new testing aims.
Top Five Things Continued...
What is GED and Why do you want one? out. Someone who passes the GED exam is certified as possessing standard study skills, such as writing, basic math, logical reasoning, and analytical senses. Compa-nies will hire people with GED's over those who have no high school education, since they have proven
themselves as apt in all the basic skills
required for a job.
A GED is also often required for those who did not com-plete high school
and are applying to colleges and universities. Bear in mind, however, that this test is not an equivalent for other college entrance exams, such as the SAT or the ACT. These tests must usually by anyone applying to college
for the first time.
In conclusion, if you did not complete high school for any reason, and returning is not an option, consider taking the GED test. While it may not always be seen as the
equivalent of a high school education, taking the test can be the first step toward a better job or going to a college or university. Here at the distance learning center, the Nez Perce Tribe has made it easier to transition into col-lege by being host to Northwest Indian Col-lege. The NWIC has many classes and de-grees available on site or online. The U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development in part-nership with Tribes and the union training centers will be announcing opportunities this FY2011 to recruit, interview and select Native individuals ready to pursue a career in the building trades as a pipefitter, roofer, iron-worker, equipment operator, and cement ma-son. Information sessions will be held by the Adult Education Program to provide detailed information about the training programs scheduled for this year, and the application process. A recruitment is currently underway for pipefitters and ironworkers for a class start-ing either before Christmas or after the New Year. The Building Trades information ses-sions will be held weekly the month of Novem-ber and December on Wednesday from 1:00 to 2:00 in the Distance Learning Centers in Lapwai and Kamiah in Classroom B. The sessions will be held on November 3, 10, 17 and December 1, 8, 15. Applicants interested in the class starting as early as before Christ-
mas are encouraged to attend immediately!
GED stands for General Educational Development, which is a set of five tests. The students need to pass these five tests in order to pursue a certifi-cate stating that the individual has acquired high school level academic skills. The GED often referred to as General Equivalency Diploma, or as the General Education Diploma. The test takers of GED exams must have more than 60% marks in their high school examina-tions. In some jurisdictions, students are required to pass
two other tests; one in English and another in civics, in order to be a GED certified stu-dent. The GED test is never taken online. Stu-dents need to go to a par-ticular examination center, where they are tested. If they receive a passing score, they are awarded with the 'Certificate of General Education Devel-opment'. A GED test, while it is sometimes not seen
by the general public as the equivalent of graduating from high school, is still useful for those who dropped
