Shine Employee Of The Month...

March 2018

KARLA SEABERGKarla Seaberg was

chosen as the March “Shine” Employee of the Month. Karla has been employed at Prairie View since November 2013 as a CNA/TMA. Karla was nominated for shoveling a path to the Sanford Clinic to get a resident over for an ap-pointment.

When asked to tell a little about herself, Kar-la said the following: I grew up in Mankato and moved to the Tracy area when searching for my biological family who I have known now for over 25 years! I enjoy fishing, traveling, animal rescue, drawing and enjoying the outdoors. I’m also a volunteer for Let’s Go Fishing. Karla lives in Tracy with her wife of 4 years, Sara.

I like working at Prairie View because our job is honorable. I have come to understand how im-portant it is to support this group of people (our residents) and their families. I work with great co-workers.

210 Hamden Street, 112 Parkview Drive, 117 ½ North Third, 1445 East 19th, 2519 Harris Street, 855 Cheshire Avenue. These addresses represent places where I have lived through out my 70-years. Not all the places by any means. For some reason these are the only addresses that I remember. Why do some addresses from your life stick with you and others fade away?

How about you my Tracy friends? What address’s do you remember from your past travels through life? You must remember the “this is where I grew up address.”

210 Hamden Street is where I grew up. It was on the West side of the railroad tracks where blue-collar workers lived. The more affluent Marshall folks lived on the East side of the tracks. Like Doctors and Lawyers. The white-collar workers.

A gravel road ran by our house. My Mom hated the dust that gravel road produced and found its way into our house. Old Man Coon’s barn was across the street. Us kids were all scared of him. There was a rumor amongst us kids he would eat our brains if he caught us on his property. Aside from brain eating Marshall offered a Norman Rockwell existence.

The next address I remember is 112 Parkview Drive. This is where we moved after Hamden Street. Parkview Drive was located by the golf course and offered upscale housing that rivaled anything the East Side folks had. This is where blue color workers who did good in their professions chose to live. And my Dad did very good indeed. The roaring Redwood River was nearby.

117 ½ North Third. This is

the address of my girlfriend’s apartment. My future wife. It was a very cozy place. Strange address but cozy.

1445 East 19th was a delightful place to live. This was the address of the apartment building the Wife and I moved into when we arrived in Eugene, Oregon in November of 1973. We soon realized we were in the heart and soul of the University of Oregon campus. What a vibrant place. I got a job right across the street at Tom’s Market in 1974. I was a cashier. Oregon students would come in after class to buy food and beer. Now those kids are all in their 60’s approaching their 70’s. That’s a mind blower. I can still see their young fresh faces.

We moved from 1445 East 19th to 2519 Harris Street. We moved into a very small house owned by James and Inez Fortt. James was a very tall man and Inez had a big pile of gray hair on her head. She had this sweet saying which I never forgot “Yes, Indeede.”

Okay, our last address is 855 Cheshire Avenue. This is where the Wife and I reside today. We bought our house on the GI Bill in 1978. We love our humble home and wouldn’t live anywhere else. This is our “Forever Home.” We put a lot of elbow grease and moola into our abode. Definition of elbow grease: vigorously applied physical labor: hard work Definition of Moola: Slang, Money.

Uff Da!

Question: What is your policy on troopers wearing the high visible safety vests while at a crash scene? Stay safe out there.

Answer: All workers (tow truck drivers, EMS, fire, police etc.) who are working at a crash scene are required to wear high visibility garments or approved fire department gear, per the Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Federal Highway Administration.

The Minnesota State Patrol policy complies with state and federal regulations. It states that it’s mandatory to wear the high visibility apparel when employees are involved in activities such as working at crash scenes, directing traffic, investigating crashes, conducting vehicle inspection, working road construction details, handling lane closures or obstructed roadways, and when managing disasters within the right-of-way.

High-visible garments are not mandatory for law enforcement personnel on routine traffic stops or in situations where it would

create a greater safety hazard for the officer. An example would be a person with a gun-type situation that occurs along the highway.

High-visible garments are part of a nationwide worker safety project to reduce deaths and injuries. The high visibility garment standard has been successful in saving lives and preventing injuries to workers in all occupations who work on our busy highways, streets, roads and parking lots.

Emergency responders are provided training on the importance of wearing safety equipment for our own safety and how to protect a crash scene to keep everyone safe.

Questions concerning traffic related laws or issues in Minnesota can be sent to Sgt. Troy Christianson – Minnesota State Patrol at 2900 48th Street NW, Rochester MN 55901-5848. Or email [email protected].
