"Each of you has received a gift to use to serve others." 1 Peter 4:10
Dear Arkansas Daughters,
It was my honor to stand at the podium at
Continental Congress and give the Arkansas State
Society Report. There are states larger in land mass
than ours with many more members but none with
bigger hearts.
Our bus trip was a huge success and Junelle Mongno
did a fantastic job. The side excursions were really
great and if Mother Nature had cooperated the night
time bus tour of the monuments would have been
wonderful but instead we were treated to a
spectacular lightning show and a deluge of rain. We
were so thrilled that Ken Frazier was back as our bus
driver. We thought we had lost him to a job change but thank God, he was there!! We are the
envy of all the other bus groups. Our bus is open to any and all Pages who need transportation
and the Thank You notes I received from them attest to their gratitude.
Our entrant to the Constitution Week Poster Contest, Donna Roberts of Harrison Colony
Chapter, was again the national winner and her poster is now on sale in the DAR Store. I will
hand out a really big stack of certificates and awards at the August Board of Management
There are changes in progress and the chapter treasurers will receive the Chapter Dues and
Remittance sheets electronically very soon. There should be instructions for them. The payment
for national dues will still be mailed to national by December 1 but the record will be entered

electronically. Sometime this year, the process of submitting applications will be done
electronically with payment being made by the prospective member‟s credit card. There were
National bylaw changes made and these will be addressed by bylaw Chair, Ann Bush at Board of
Management.
This has been a year of whirlwind activity and the time has flown by. My second year is
beginning and I look forward to visiting more of our chapters. I love and appreciate each and
every one of you for the support you have given me.

“God of our Fathers, our God, we bless Thee for all those holy influences and
sacred memories of love and life that hearten us in our day. We thank thee
that we travel not alone but round about us are that innumerable company of
those whose presence has made life for us stronger and braver and better. We
bless Thee for the memories that somehow crowd into our consciousness
again today and grant we pray Thee, that in the recognition of those lives that
have ennobled us and enriched us by their consecration, we may find a new purpose for living.”

Registrar’s Report by Barbara Lewis, ASDAR Registrar
Lots of Chapters are working on new members! Our January 1 membership count was 2494 and
our current membership is 2518!! That‟s 88 new members this year and 15 of those are Junior
members. There have been 38 dropped, 31 deceased, 2 resigned, 7 reinstated, 19 transferred out
and 19 transferred in. We also have 31 pending applications with 12 of those in the „AIR’ slot
(Additional information requested). National has changed the “HW” terminology to “AIR”.
They suggest that it is a kinder way of requesting more information. Ladies, keep up the good
work and let me know if you get stuck and need help. Please welcome the following new members from May 2015 through July 2015:

Since the Genealogy Department at National Headquarters now posts an electronic copy of the
actual verified application or supplemental on e-Membership, you can see which information the
genealogist used and exactly how he or she evaluated the paper. If the information is verified
from an original source, there will be checks over each piece of information. Information
verified from previous applications on file with the DAR will have the checks, not over the
submitted information, but over the printed "born," "on," or "married" on a line of information.
The genealogist will then make the line of data agree with what is on file. You can also see
which information was not verified, because it will be bracketed. Additional information that is
on file will be written on the line of information.

DAR Good Citizen
The DAR Good
Citizens program is a
wonderful way to
recognize outstanding
young people who
exhibit the qualities of
good citizenship in
their homes, schools
and communities. The
DAR Good Citizens
program and the Good
Citizen Scholarship
Contest are intended
to encourage and
reward the qualities of
good citizenship. The
program is open to all
high school seniors
enrolled in public or
private schools accredited by Arkansas State
Board of Education.
The student selected as the school‟s DAR
Good Citizen must have and exhibit the
following qualities; dependability, service,
leadership, and patriotism. The
recommended procedure for selecting a
DAR Good Citizen is for the school
counselors or faculty to choose three seniors
who have demonstrated in an outstanding
way the qualities of a good citizen. From
these three students, the senior class selects
one student. Each school may, however, use
a method of its own choice. Each school
may honor only one senior class student per
year as their DAR Good Citizen.
Each school's DAR Good Citizen will
receive a DAR Good Citizen pin, certificate,
and wallet recognition card. This student is
then eligible, to enter the DAR Good
Citizens Scholarship Contest. Chapter
chairs should begin contacting and giving
information to the schools by the end of
August. MarJo Dill is the ASDAR State
Chairman of the DAR Good Citizen
Committee.
Special Projects Grants
The National Society Daughters of the
American Revolution Special Projects
Grants Program provides local community
grant funding to support projects
exemplifying the organization's mission
areas of Historic
Preservation,
Education and
Patriotism. The
program is open to
public charity 501(c)
(3) entities only.
Grant funding will be
awarded to a
successful applicant
only once during a
DAR administration. No Arkansas Society
chapter was awarded a grant for the 2014
year. Please check the “Members‟ Only”
website for application information,
deadlines, and appropriate projects to meet
the objectives of the committee. The two
chapters that applied last year are eligible to
apply again this year. I urge you to do so!

Volunteer Genealogists
The mission of the Volunteer Genealogists
Committee is to train Volunteer Field
Genealogists, Genealogy Consultants, and
Volunteer Genealogists in the current
standards of verification for completed
applications and supplementals. The
Volunteer Genealogist Committee is not the
same as the Lineage Research Committee.
Our objective is to not have a prospective
member‟s application returned. Presently,
about 1/3 of all of Arkansas‟ new
applications are returned for one reason or
other. We can you by teaching members of
your lineage research committees and your
registrars how to avoid the mistakes which cause applications to be returned.
The Goals of the committee are: to
disseminate information regarding current
standards of verification for completed
applications and supplementals in order to
ensure their speedy approval; to conduct
VFG workshops in your local areas with
your registrars, membership committee
chairmen, lineage researchers, and
prospective members; to establish new
patriots and new children of existing
patriots, thereby increasing membership; to
assist prospective members with research to
complete their applications; and to mentor a
designated chapter's officers in the
completion of applications.
Please help by having a Volunteer
Genealogy Workshop for your chapter or
District. Contact Marcia Connors at
479-527-6994 to see about a workshop for
your chapter. Let‟s bring down our number
of returned applications. We want
prospective DAR members to be approved
quickly without difficulties. This class only
takes about 4 hours and counts as both a
Genealogy Workshop and as a Volunteer
Genealogist Workshop for your
chapter. And it will help your chapter to
process applications smoothly. We are here
to help you!
Yours in DAR,
Marcia Connors
124th
Continental Congress Bus Trip
Twenty-six DAR members, 2 guests, and 3
HODARS loaded onto the Little Rock Tours bus and departed June 21, 2015, returning with State
Regent Mary Deere on board June 30, 2015.
Four additional members joined our room block at the historic Willard Hotel. Bus driver
extraordinaire, Ken Fraser, provided another
safe journey for the group. His last minute
assignment as our driver was a highlight of the trip. As usual he looked out for the welfare of
not just us, but he came to the rescue of pages
and “stranded” passengers from other states. Side trips included a trolley ride through
Arlington National Cemetery and a guided tour
of Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Tuesday evening, a step-on guide boarded the bus with us and narrated the history of the city
and monuments as we navigated through a
driving rain storm that started shortly after departure. We eventually were able to make a
couple monument stops. On Sunday afternoon,
a side trip was taken to the Women in Military Service to America Memorial and the Marine
Memorial. Arkansas daughters and guests
enjoyed a variety of events during the trip –
State Regent Deere‟s report, luncheons, teas, business meetings, evening awards ceremonies,
excellent speakers, shopping, and sightseeing.
To top off the trip, one of the guests on board, Jimmie Jo Leech, sister of Lucy Cyphers, made
the decision to submit her application for
membership. I call that a successful trip! Thank you to each and every one on the trip for your
cooperation and contribution to making the trip a
most enjoyable one.

Arkansas Post
Arkansas Post Chapter recently celebrated Vietnam Veterans at a reception held in their honor on
July 22 at the First Presbyterian Church in Stuttgart. State Regent Mary Deere and Arkansas
Post Chapter Regent/ Honorary State Regent Jean Pollard presented certificates to 23 veterans
and/or family members in recognition of their service. “We wanted to have a local event,” said
Chair Jerrie Townsend. “It is time to recognize those men and women who gave so much on our
behalf.” After the program, Arkansas Post Chapter members served refreshments and fellowship
for those in attendance.
Harrison Colony
While cleaning out a closet, Harrison Colony Chapter ASDAR member Ann Dickey Hancock
came across a picture taken in 1997 at the 107th National Society Continental Congress. Ann‟s
mother, Relda Dickey had purchased the photograph at that Congress and had it beautifully
framed. Because of its size Ann wasn‟t interested in hanging the picture in her home and
subsequently donated it to Harrison Colony Chapter to decide its fate. The chapter, with Ann‟s
permission has donated it to the
archives of the national society
where it now hangs in a prominent
place in Constitution Hall in
Washington, DC. Our ASDAR
Regent, Mary Deere, delivered the
picture, safely wrapped in bubble
wrap to the proper authorities at
Constitution Hall. [Pictured l-r,
Sandy Hillier, Ann Hancock and Chapter Regent Sue Chambers]
Harrison Colony Chapter continues to honor its Vietnam Veterans by hosting events at the local
Lyric Theatre. Our state officers have participated in these events that have been extremely well
received and attended by local veterans and the public. Members continue to recycle tin, plastic,
paper and other conservation projects taken on by individuals. Collection of food and non-food
9
items, including pet food continues to be sent to military families overseas. A three volume set
of the series: American Women‟s Roll in the Revolutionary Era 1760-1790 has been purchased
for donation to Boone County Library.
Hot Springs of Arkansas
Chapter Regent Linda Jester stands with guest speaker
Janice Brown. The Chapter and 3 HODARS watched Mrs.
Brown‟s DVD about her son, Adam, of the Navy SEAL
Team 6. The DVD told of his life as a “Fearless” young
man who lost his life in Afghanistan. Janice and her
husband, Larry, have organized a faith based outreach
program for parents who have lost a child. It is called
“While We‟re Waiting” (whilewerewaiting.org). Janice
told about how it got started and how greatly it has grown.
As a “Service for
Veterans” project
the chapter literally loaded their car trunks with personal
hygiene items, flip flops, socks, jogging pants and
sweatpants for the McClellan VA in Little Rock, Ft.
Roots, and the VA2K Run. Items for the VA2K were
for homeless Veterans. [ picturedl-r Dorothy Carden, Martha Koon, Margie Hill, Lavena Ray, Linda Jester, Karen
Wacaster and Caroline Campbell]
Hot Springs of Arkansas and Akansa
In June the C.A.R was very happy to have a KFC dinner
delivered to them at their meeting in Hot Springs by Akansa
and Hot Springs of Arkansas Chapters. The chapters also
donated waffles and strawberries for breakfast and provided
juice, sodas, water, and healthy snacks for the week. [Pictured l-r:

Leuhring, Vice-Regent Akansa Chapter; Nena Butler, Treasurer Hot Springs
of Arkansas Chapter.]
Gilbert Marshall
The Gilbert Marshall chapter is looking forward to two special events in the upcoming weeks
ahead. The first is an ice cream social that will focus on celebrating our organization‟s 125th
birthday. On August 27 new members, along with prospective members and regular members,
will meet at the home of Registrar Nancy Bartlett in order to get to know one another better
before the fall programs begin. A special birthday cake in honor of D.A.R. is being created for
the party.
On October 11 at the MacArthur Arkansas Military Museum in Little Rock, the first
commemoration for Vietnam veterans and their families will take place. The chapter is
anticipating awarding a number of certificates of recognition and pins to those who sacrificed so
10
much from 1955-1975 for our country. Light refreshments and a short program are planned.
The first commemoration will focus on families and friends of our members who served during
this time.
Major Jacob Gray
Major Jacob Gray Chapter celebrated its 35th Anniversary with a tea
June 6, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville.
Organizing members who attended were Charlotte Huntley,
Organizing Chapter Regent, Carolyn Yancy Kent, and Joan
Zumwalt. A program about the chapter, its history, organizing
members, and activities was presented by Chapter Regent Jayne
Spears, Mary Lee Schultz, and Junelle Mongno. Chapter members
attending welcomed State Regent Mary Deere, State Vice Regent
Jerrie Townsend, Quapaw District Director Stephanie Mason,
representatives from other district chapters, and The Rock C.A.R.
members. Mary Ford, outgoing Chapter Regent, was the planning
chairman and ensured guests enjoyed a delightful selection of finger
foods, sweets, cake, tea, and punch.
Jayne Spears, Mary Ford, and Junelle Mongno took the bus trip to 124th Continental Congress
June 21 – 30, 2015. They enjoyed the side trips, meetings, evening events, luncheons and teas.
Jayne made the most of her first trip ever to Washington DC by venturing around the city,
meeting relatives for the first time, and making the best use of her camera (nearly 1700 photos).
Five new members – that accomplishment occurred August 5, 2015 when Rosemary Frame,
Faye Jones, Mary Veazey, Ann Whitledge, and Sharon Whitledge became DAR Daughters. We
welcome them to the chapter.
Marion
Eleven new members of Marion Chapter recently gathered to learn
about Marion Chapter and NSDAR at an orientation tea. The 2 hour
session covered the history of the organization, the four founders,
mission and motto; ways to become
involved and to find out more about
what DAR does; why we wear so
many pins and sashes; and finally just
a little basic protocol. Light
refreshments of tea, sandwiches and
cookies were served. New members
who attended were: Sheila Bell, Julie
Chambers, Martha Estes, Karen
Hendrix, Ann Hutchinson, Gloria Keyes, Margaret Laws, Marianne
McBride, Donna Rowley Annette Sunlin and Pam Vandevoir. The next new member orientation
is tentatively scheduled for October. [Pictured are Pam Vandevoir, Gloria Keyes and Ann Hutcheson]
