SCHOOL NEWS STAFFING 2018
We have been informed that Mrs Bennett regretfully will not be returning to Wombat Public School.
Therefore staffing for 2018 will remain as it is for as long as the director dictates. The Principal position will
be filled substantially, permanently, as the Director’s requirements. The school community will be notified
of any information regarding this as it comes to hand, and we thank you for your understanding in this. We
also welcome Mr Jamie Britt back, filling in the GA capacity following Mr Jurd’s leaving the position.

Well done to Primary for reaching their goal of 500 class dojo points, and infants who reached their goal of

appreciated.

DIGITAL LITERACY GRANT
We have been invited by Stockinbingal Public School to join a group of small schools in benefiting from a
$50,000 Grant applied for and received in the area of digital technology. At this stage we are looking at the
possibility of bringing robotics technology into the classrooms to meet the digital literacies strand in the
Australian Curriculum. This is a great opportunity for Wombat Public School as alone we are unable to access
this technology or the training due to the cost. For our students this will mean that they will have the same
opportunities, and possibly at a younger age, accessible in many larger schools. This Friday 23rd March the
Principals of the schools involved will be meeting together in Murrumburrah to create a plan of how this will
look in each of our schools.
YOUNG SMALL SCHOOL PSSA CARNIVAL
The Young Small Schools PSSA Carnival will be held at Gus Smith Oval in Young on
Wednesday 4th April. This carnival is the selection carnival for representation at District
Athletics the following term. All children attend and participate in activities with the
8yrs plus students competing for a spot on the District Team.
Please find attached lunch order for the day, indicate your choices and return along with money to the office by Wednesday 28th March.
EASTER LONG WEEKEND – FRIDAY 30th MARCH TO MONDAY 2nd APRIL (NEXT WEEK)
The Easter long weekend is from Friday 30th March until Monday 2nd April. Students will return to school on
Tuesday 3rd April.

FROM THE PRIMARY ROOM
Hello to all,
Here we are at another Friday! I can’t believe it is the end of week 8 already, time flies when you’re having
fun I guess!
This week the primary class have impressed with some wonderful pieces of art, which is pretty exciting
considering that at the start of the term a large proportion of the class did not identify as artists. Great work
everyone!
We have started regularly writing journal entries this week in a bid to improve on a variety of English
outcomes. I’m pleased with the effort that has been made thus far so let’s keep up the good work.
The P.S.S.A carnival is on the horizon and to prepare we have been focusing on a variety of techniques to
enable us to achieve the best result we can on the day. It’s good to see students taking on board tips to
progress in a variety of events.
That’s it from me, see you all again in a shortened week 9!

FROM THE INFANTS ROOM
Maths this week has been a collection of challenges and problems to solve so I can gauge the children’s
problem solving and mathematical thinking skills, as well as their knowledge on quantifying numbers. I
posted one activity we did on facebook, where I challenged the children to come up with a way to count a
container of small blocks. They quickly answered exactly what I wanted to hear – grouping in tens then
hundreds. We then estimated what we thought the count would be. The final count was 1,600 with a few
spares. Phoebie’s estimate was the closest. Another activity I gave the children was to plot numbers on a
numberline, children had to show their understanding of place value to plot the numbers where they would
go in relation to the other numbers.
On Thursday as one of our L3 literacy experiences we talked about the devestation from the fire at Tathra
last weekend and watched a video taken from a helicopter of some of the damage. We then read the book
Fire by Jackie French (Read to experience). I then wrote a sentence focusing on spaces and sight words for
Kindergarten, bossy e, and sounding out strategies for year 1 and 2 (instructional writing). Later in the day
we then did some sustained writing (30 minutes of constant writing) on fire. We have been looking at quality
of writing (nounds, adjectives, verbs – interesting words) for a while and now we need to go back to
encouraging sustained writing, looking for length and authorial skills (a variety of ideas that connect
together). While year 1 and 2 did this kindergarten engaged in a guided writing session (early writing).
