Congratulations to the finalists of our recently organised volleyball tournament. Winner of the MVP was Christopher Cremin 3.3. LITERACY AND THE LIBRARY One of our aims is to improve the literacy levels of our students and research shows that an increase in reading levels helps to achieve this. Recently we have had a ‘Drop Everything and Read’ Week to promote reading. The Board of Management has decided to give priority to developing a library for teenagers and a sum of 5,000 has been allocated to restock the library. We are asking parents and pupils to help kick start the restocking of the library by donating books of interest to teenagers and a text with details of this ‘book drive’ will be forwarded shortly.

the amBer flaGWe are delighted to announce that we have earned an Amber Flag. This Flag is awarded to schools who have promoted positive mental health. It acknowledges our hard work in trying to create awareness of mental health problems and in breaking down the stigma associated with those who have mental health issues. Some of the events which helped us earn the Amber Flag were our annual ‘Mind your Head Week’, the TY Talent Show in aid of ‘Shine a Light’ and the creation of an Amber Flag notice board. Congratulations to all involved.

CertifiCateS of attendanCe Congratulations to all pupils receiving their Certificate for unbroken attendance for the school year 2013/2014 from David Morley, NEWB. CarraiG’S Got talent! The annual Talent Show, organised by the TY’s, was a fantastic success this year. It was presented by Ciara Linehan and Lauren Kennedy and adjudicated by Graham Hegarty, Mr. MacCárthaigh and guest judge was Fergal of Manna Sounds. The talent was of a particularly high standard and the variety in the acts performed ensured that the show was thoroughly enjoyed by all. As always, there was no shortage of gifted vocalists and dancers showcasing their talents. Third place went to Evan Lynch (2nd year), second place to Laura Lotty (6th year) and the overall winners were Jennifer Hall, Evan Marron and Conor Hayes who performed a cover of One Republic hit ‘Counting Stars’. All proceeds were donated to ‘Shine A Light’.
