Term 3 Week 2
Barramundi and Bush Fruit Time “The skies are clearing and the clouds are high. When there is a cold wind the old people say that the flowers are calling the cold weather. Doedirra (Green Sea Turtle) are hunted throughout the year except when they are mating and laying eggs. Strict laws decide when they can be hunted. We eat seeds from the Dundit (bush peanut). Damiyumba (Billy Goat Plum) is fruiting. Bilirrawarra (Black Cockatoo) eat the fruit now and the seeds later in the year after the Dry Season fires.”

From the Principal… This new term continues to be a wonderful time of year in the Top End. You will not see me around this week as I am at Litchfield Park with the Year 6 students camped out near Buley Rockhole. I hear you saying what a tough job I have but it’s ok, I’m managing. This camp has been a Year Six outing for many years and the reason it is so popular with students and adults is that, because the students are always respectful and take ownership of their own actions, we are all relaxed and just enjoy the place we are in. This does not happen by accident. It is a result of the great support they receive from their parents, the terrific friendships they make at school and the amazing relationships they form with their teachers. All of this leads to a group of great children who love being in each other’s company and who respect and support each other. You have probably stopped feeling sorry for me by now and you will have realised that being with our Year Six children is in fact a great privilege for me.

- Next Monday, Week 3, is Picnic Day (3rd August). This is a public holiday so there
will be no school.
- Please don’t send in cupcakes or other foods to share on your child’s birthday. We have
found that icy poles work best.
- Keep us informed of any bus arrangements or changes in pick-ups.
Our New Normal
We continue to be vigilant and cautious here at school. In our decision making we use the Northern Territory Roadmap which is underpinned by three principles:
personal responsibility,
physical distancing, and
hygiene You can help minimize the risk by following these rules:
- Do not come to school or send your child to school if
there is any possibility that you may have had contact with a person who has COVID-19.
Let’s play it safe.
- Let us know if you or anyone in your household has to go into quarantine.
- Do not come to school or send your child to school if either of you are unwell.
- Do not enter any of the school buildings except the office.
- Help us to model best hygiene practices by always washing your hands on entering the
school grounds. Have some sanitizer in the car or use ours on entering the office.
- Drop off your child and leave the school grounds quickly. Go directly to where you need
to go.
Parents of Transition children and Preschool children may stay a little while but please
observe distancing.
- If you have to be at the school, remember to keep your distance from others.
- Make sure we have your correct contact details.
Stuart Park Plant Sale
Stuart Park will be having a plant sale in time for Father’s Day. To help assist us, we are looking for donations of empty pots from home that could be donated to the school. The medium sized pots roughly 18cm in height, are preferred – also anything smaller can also be used. Also any donations of potting mix and clean takeaway containers would be helpful. Donations of pots can be left next to the bike shed at upper primary. Thanks very much!

School photography day is coming up very soon. Group and portrait photographs can be purchased by following the link above. If you are not able to pay online, there are envelops available in the school office. Important Information:
School photos purchased online DO NOT require envelopes returned to school* Don’t forget to order your sibling photos now Late fees/additional charges will be applied for purchases after photo day Photos will be returned to your school for distribution approximately six weeks after
photos are taken
*Sibling photographs must be ordered either online or by order envelope prior to the day of photography. The cut-off date for sibling photos is 12/08/2020. A photograph will not be taken without an order. Sibling photographs only apply to children enrolled at the school.
Thursday 13th - All Class and individual photos except Year 4’s. House Captain, School Leader, SRC and Sibling photos will also be taken on this day. Friday 14th – All Year 4 Class and their individual photos, Preschool Photos, Year 6 Graduation photos, sibling with Year 4 and sibling with Preschoolers will be taken on this day.
Semester 2 Urban Sport Vouchers available now!
To receive their child’s voucher, parents or carers need to apply online. Vouchers issued in Semester 2 2020 will expire on 31 May 2021.
Preschool Enrolments for 2021
We are now taking enrolments for our preschool in 2021. Preschool is for children who turn 4 years of age before 30th June, 2021. It is for 15 hours per week and this can be done as a morning session from 8am to 11am each day or an afternoon session from 11:45am to 2:45pm each day.
Our preschool does fill up some years (such as this year) so, to get into the session of your choice, get your enrolment in early. Call the school to request an enrolment form.

Wanted – Large Ceramic Pot
We are looking for a large ceramic pot to convert into the base of a frog hotel. Please contact the office if you think you can help us.
School Stream App
We seem to have now caught up approving your requests to join our School Steam app. This process is important as the app is not available to those outside the school community. We will soon move to School Stream so please download it if you have not already done so. Notifications have probably started to pop up. Remember that you can limit these so you just get them for your child’s year level and when the information is relevant to all (e.g. newsletter).
School Banking will resume in Term 3!! Commonwealth School Banking program has notified us that we can resume school banking in Term 3. Please send bank books this Friday!
