One day National Workshop on “NUIS Scheme with Special emphasis on Bhuvan” for all the Stakeholders was held at NRSC, Hyderabad on 31st July, 2012. The stakeholders included Secretaries, Principal Secretaries of Urban Development, Directors/Deputy Directors of State Town Planning Departments, Metropolitan Commissioners of UDAs, Commissioners of Municipalities / ULBs, Member-Secretary, NCRPB, New Delhi, Chief Planner / Urban Planners, TCPs, SOI and SRSACs. The workshop discussed on NUIS Database Utilization for Master Plan Preparation, Capacity Building & Training of State Nodal Agencies and Outreach through Bhuvan. The Technical session included Toolkit for formulation of Master Plan and Demonstration of Bhuvan services for Town Planners including a case study of Khammam by DTCP, GoAP. The Breakout sessions were arranged to demonstrate the NUIS and NUDBI database to the respective Urban Local Bodies and Nodal Agencies from Towns & Cities in States / UTs. Nearly 286 officials participated in the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr.Sudhir Krishna, Secretary, MoUD, New Delhi. National Urban Information System (NUIS) is a National Mission initiated by Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) in 2006 for Generation of multiscale (10,000, 2000, 1000) Hierarchial Urban Geospatial Database on Thematic content using Satellite, Aerial and GPR techniques. In Phase-I, 152 towns representing all States/UTs in the country have been selected. The project has been executed by Town & Country Planning Organization (TCPO), Survey of India (SOI) and National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC/ISRO) with SRSAC as Partner Institutes. The Thematic Database at 1:10,000 scale has been prepared using Cartosat-1 (PAN) 2.5m and IRS P6 LISS IV MX 5.8m satellite data. The Thematic data consists of 12 primary layers of Base, Urban Landuse, Geology, Geomorphology, Physiography and Soils and 4 Incorporated layers of Administrative, Forest, City / town boundaries and Settlement Location Names. This data would enable the State Nodal Agency (SNA) and Urban Local Bodies (ULB) for Master Plan / Development Plan Preparation, Transportation Plan and Urban Environment Planning.

Bhuvan is a Geoportal of Indian Space Research Organisation showcasing Indian Earth Observation Capabilities in Multi-sensor, Multi-platform and Multi-temporal domain. This Earth browser gives a gateway to explore and discover virtual earth in 2D / 3D space with specific emphasis on Indian Region. One of the highlight of Bhuvan is its Thematic Services. NUIS Database (Urban Land Use) of 60 towns have been uploaded on Bhuvan under the Thematic Services Category. The data can be viewed at http://bhuvan-noeda.nrsc.gov.in/theme/thematic/theme.php by Selecting the Theme “Urban Land Use (10K): NUIS” and then the respective State and Town. The list of 60 NUIS towns are:
