BALCATTA PRIMARY SCHOOL Telephone: 9253 4900
Number: 12 NEWSLETTER 13 August 2020
Number: 12 13 August 2015
On Tuesday, years 3-6 students enjoyed being introduced
to the sport of Squash, organised by our Phys. Ed. teacher
Mrs Dowling.
PRINCIPAL’S PATTER
Hello Everyone,
I would like to remind everyone about ‘Stranger Danger’ in our community
and for us all, to talk through and reinforce the following safety messages
with students. Whenever possible, walk with a friend or in a group. Never
take short-cuts through isolated areas. Always be aware of one’s
surroundings. If possible, walk facing the on-coming traffic. Never get too
close to cars that stop nearby. Always report any stranger danger concerns.
Our staff continues to reinforce the above messages to the students in the
class room and parents are encouraged to talk to their children about the
importance of these messages. By using common-sense we can all work
together to keep our children safe.
With restrictions regarding COVID19 still in place, we will be delaying our
next school assembly until further notice.
Hopefully phase four restrictions will be lifted in the near future.
Just a reminder that our staff car parks (Main Street) are not to be
used for “dropping off” or “picking up” students. Please use the
parents’ drive-through at the southern end of the school (behind
the Pre-Primary Centre) or you may park in Sylvia Street and
cross Main Street using the pedestrian crossing attended by our
crosswalk wardens.
Thank you for your support, which can only enhance the safety of our
students.
Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
Principal
Peter Gates
A reminder to all our parents and community members
that should you see or hear anything suspicious around
the school, after school hours, on weekends or during the
school holidays, please phone ‘School Watch’ Security:
1800 177 777 or the Police on 13 14 44. Your help in this
matter is much appreciated.
Monday, August 17, is Jeans for Genes
Day.
For a gold coin, you can wear your jeans to school. All money
raised goes to children’s medical research.

“BEFORE SCHOOL BOOK CLUB”
SCIENCE The theme of National Science Week 2020 is (15-21 August)
is Deep Blue: innovations for the future of our oceans and
features the establishment of the Blue Economy CRC.
With this in mind, the theme embraces the innovative
technologies, capabilities and skills needed to achieve
economic, environmental and social sustainability of our
oceans.
Throughout the week, students will be engaged in activities
to demonstrate an inquiry into workable solutions that
generate healthy oceans, healthy economies and healthy
communities.
From Kindergarten to Year 2, students will be using the Quiver Education
app, to decorate and bring to life a turtle’s home in the deep blue sea. The
Year 3 to Year 6 students will have the opportunity to dive deeper into the
ocean, looking at Aquaculture and Fish Farming, as well as designing a boat
that moves by the wind with a mast and sail.
We look forward to diving into the deep blue!
Miss Raso (Science)
LIBRARY
On Wednesdays, Year 6 students are able
to read to Year 3’s in our Before School
Book Club. Our theme this week was
“DOGS”.
VIRTUE OF THE MONTH (August) GENEROSITY
CHAPLAIN’S CORNER We are almost half way through term 3 already, which seems
hard to believe.
Just a reminder that my hours are Tuesdays 8.00am – 3.30pm &
Thursdays 8.30am – 4.00pm. On Tuesday mornings I can be
found in the canteen running the Breakfast Club & on Thursday mornings
helping & having fun at the School Community Playgroup.
At other times I can be found in the Student Activity Centre or in classes
around the school. Please contact me through the school office if you
need to see or speak to me.
Don’t forget Jeans for Genes day on Monday – a fun & worthwhile cause
that we can all have a generous attitude (our virtue of the month) to, “with
or without” wearing jeans! Until next time,
Larissa McCarthy
Chaplain
What is generosity? Generosity is giving and sharing. It is giving freely because you want to, not with the idea of receiving a reward or a gift in return. Generosity is being aware that there is plenty for everyone. It is seeing a chance to give what you have and then giving just for the joy of giving. It is one of the best ways to show love and friendship.
Why Practise It? Without generosity, people act uncaringly, refusing to share their belongings, their time and their friendship. People who need help feel helpless because no-one will give them what they need. When we give freely, especially if a sacrifice is involved, our spirit grows strong. When one person is generous, other people want to be generous too.
Signs of Success Congratulations! You are practising Generosity when you: • are thoughtful about the needs of others • notice when someone needs help • give freely without expectation of reward • give fully without holding back • are willing to make sacrifices for others • use wisdom about sharing treasured belongings
PLAYGROUP Come along and join with us playing,
singing, listening to stories, colouring, using play dough,
making friends and lots more.
Thursday mornings from 9.00 – 10.20 am.
** Playgroup WA has discounted fees for the remainder of this year.
