Calculation Policy Addition
Stage 1 Pupils begin to use the + and = signs to record practical and mental calculations in a number sentence
Stage 2 3 + 4 = 7 (using cubes, Dienes, base 10, number lines or 100 squares)

number lines)

Ensure children are secure and have seen plenty of teacher modelling before recording in columns.
Stage 8 Pupils use the same layout as stage 7 to tackle addition of decimals.
