The nation may have celebrated 21 years offreedom recently, but the majority of SouthAfricans feel there is little to smile about.

The country is still recovering from theoutbreak of barbaric xenophobic attacks thatplaced a dark cloud of doom and gloom overthe nation.

There is, however, always some or otherreason to celebrate and in typical South Afri-can fashion, the captivating world of dancehas provided a much-needed escape from thebrutality facing us on a daily basis.

Coinciding with Freedom Day on 27April, the Kopano Theatre Club kicked offtheir North West tour at the Sanlam Auditori-um (NWU-Pukke campus) in what was thefirst of many stops scheduled for the provinceover the coming months.

The travelling dance project, made up ofa team of 15 crew members, including dan-cers, musicians and narrators, will wrap uptheir tour in Rustenburg, in August.

Titled “Celebrating South African Natio-nal Orders”, the initiative is aimed at reaffir-ming national heritage, history, culture anddignity and further aims to reignite the pro-motion of national pride and identity.

Through the powerful medium of dance,the significance of these orders is highlighted.As the choreographer, Boitumelo Mokweneis at the core of the production and delightedto be able to share this rapture of movementand artistry with the people of North West.

A series of workshops will also be hostedon each Saturday and will be based on a varie-ty of dance-related themes.

Provincial departments and public enti-ties have a statutory obligation to prepareand submit annual financial statements foraudit to the auditor-general (AG) by the endof May every year.

The workshop’s theme, “Think clean,Think green” combines the two themes of“Clean Audit vision 2015’, and the AG’s“green face” award for significant improve-ment and minimal risks in a department’sbooks. It signifies the provincial accountingservices’ commitment to assist all NW de-partments, to the best of their ability, toachieve favourable audit outcomes for theyear end. “I am optimistic that these financi-al statements will be as credible as possibleto help us achieve favourable audit outcomesthis year,” Paul said.

The North West Department of Finance re-cently held a three-day training workshop toassist provincial departments to comply withthe Public Finance Management Act(PFMA).

The workshop focussed on preparing an-nual financial statements in a bid to improveaudit outcomes of the financial year ending31 March.

It was attended by the chief financial offi-cers of all departments, their support staff,officials from provincial internal audit andofficials from the AG.

The workshop was conducted by the de-partment’s financial governance program-me, headed by the provincial accountant ge-neral (PAG), Geo Paul.

The programme is responsible for provi-ding quality accounting services, norms andstandards, financial systems support andtraining, transversal risk management, inter-nal audit function and physical asset mana-

My vrou vra elke dag vir my waarom my oë so rooiis as ek van die werk af kom. Die antwoord is eintlikeenvoudig, ek slaap nie genoeg in die aand nie.

My redenasie was nog altyd as ek tot 04:00 in dieoggend kan kuier en steeds funksioneer by die werk,dan behoort die pajama drills hanteerbaar te wees. Watek nie aan gedink het nie, is die feit dat dit nie neteen of twee aande is nie, maar elke liewe aand. Omdatek so ’n dierbare vrou het, word ek soms nie wakkerwanneer hy die eerste keer wakker word nie. Sy losmy om te slaap. Maar meer dikwels word ek saam methaar wakker as Aiden huil.

Dikwels is hy honger en raak onmiddellik weer aandie slaap na sy voeding, gewoonlik 02:30 en 05:00.Maar sodra die horlosie 06:30 slaan is hy wakker enwil hy gesels.

Dan staan ek maar op en gesels saam met hom, ek

sukkel om my oë oop te hou, kort-kort voel ek myoë toeval, net om deur een van sy “woordjies” weerwakker gemaak te word. As my oë oopgaan kyk in’n glimlaggende baba se gesig vas.

Dan gaan my wekker af en dis tyd vir werk. Party dae is beter as ander, maar op slegte dae sluip

ek by die werk in en probeer my bes om met so minmense as moontlik te praat, want my gemoedstoestandis glad nie jolig nie.

My vrou sê gereeld vir my dat ek vroeër in die aandmoet gaan slaap. Dit is beslis die waarheid omdat ekeers kort voor middernag in die bed kom klim. Maardit is vir my ’n aanpassing, omdat ek nog altyd ’n nag-uil was.

Vir my eie beswil en die mense om my gaan ek maarvanaand om 20:00 al in die bed wees. Met my geluk,sodra ek besluit om vroeër te gaan slaap, slaap Aidendeur. Ek dink soms hy doen dit met opset, want syglimlag in die oggende lyk heeltemal te selfvoldaan.

North West Finance convenes workshop to improve audit outcomes

Homework Club 52 is a tutoring centre basedin 52 Grimbeeck Street, Miederpark.

The company was founded by CarolynOhlson de Fine and Lily Badenhorst, with theaim of helping learners and students with theirhomework and studies. The idea is also to de-tect learning problems.

The centre is for anyone from grade R tomatric, but also available to varsity studentswho are battling with a new subject.

“We believe that anyone can be helped insome way,” says co-founder, Carolyn. “We donot just focus on the school subject the childis struggling with, we find a creative way to

teach people. We aim to build their charactersand develop them through a holistic approach,”she adds.

The centre will be open throughout the year,except for December holidays. Students cancome in anytime from 08:00 and leave whene-ver they wish.

In the mornings, when learners are atschool, they are planning to offer arts and craftslessons for stay-at-home mothers or anyoneelse who is interested.

During school holidays, they offer extra tui-tion to those who require it. “We want to moveaway from technology, we want people to getin touch with themselves again. So, instead ofstaring at your cellphone screen, we want youto pick up a book and read,” says Carolyn.

“Everything we do is in the interest of thelearner. The bottom line is that we put the lear-ner before anything else.”

The tutors of Homework Club 52 are stu-dents from the Puk who have either graduatedor are still studying. There is always someoneon board that can do remedial teaching and oc-cupational therapists are just a phone call away.

“Our tutors are passionate about studyingand children,” says Carolyn.

The centre is open from 08:00 to 20:00 onweekdays and from 08:00 to 17:00 on Satur-day. Cost per learner per hour is as follows. Single -R150 and a group of 2-5 learners -R125 per child.

Outraged MTN customers are still obliged topay the contracts of cell phones that were sto-len in a burglary at MooiRivier Mall on 24January.

Two of the twenty customers concernedtold the Gazette that their cell phones werein for repairs when thieves gained entry intothe MTN store through the roof.

Selina Kuena pays R449 per month fora Samsung S4 and Joel Litelu pays R320 forhis Nokia Lumia 1320. These phones wereamong the phones, a laptop, tablet and an un-disclosed amount of cash that were stolen inthe robbery. The alarm did not go off duringthe burglary and the incident was only disco-vered when the staff arrived for work the fol-lowing day and found the safe standing open.

Expecting some sort of recourse the custo-mers provided affidavits as requested, onlyto be told that MTN’s insurance does not co-ver a third party. The store manager said therewas nothing she could do to help them gettheir phones back. The victims, who describethemselves as ‘loyal MTN customers’ werenot even offered courtesy phones and had nooption but to buy new handheld devices. De-spite the fact that MTN expects them to keeppaying their contracts as usual, Litelu has al-ready stopped payment and Kuena also plansto stop her debit order.

Both customers had bought their devicesfrom the same store and have now lost all their

personal information. They say they are ‘gat-vol’ of being sent from pillar to post for thelast three months and finally being taken fora ride. They have lost all faith in the serviceprovider to whom they entrusted their assetsand are shocked at the level of service theyreceived.

Potchefstroom police spokesperson, W/OMpho Manyobe told the Gazette that the casewas closed because the devices could not betraced, even after the serial numbers had beencirculated. There have subsequently been noarrests in this regard.

After a Gazette enquiry, Eddie Moyce,chief customer experience officer at MTNsaid the service provider had decided to repla-ce the phones that were stolen from the storewithout any cost to the affected customers.

He said the store is in the process of loca-ting replacement stock and will be liaisingwith the affected customers to confirm the re-placement.

“MTN takes the security of its stores andthe safety of its employees very seriously andtakes reasonable safety precautions to secureequipment that is in its custody.

In instances of theft, MTN has to complywith insurance underwriting processes andundertake the necessary due diligence beforeany claims can be settled. The burglary is anunfortunate and regrettable incident that istargeting the industry. MTN wishes to apolo-gise profusely to the affected customers forany inconvenience caused,” he said.

Kanonniers wawyd wakker

Boitekong and Northam Police together withmine security officials apprehended 12 sus-pects aged between 18 and 55 for possessionof copper cables.

The incident took place on the R510 in Boi-tekong at about 05:00 on 7 May.

Northam Police responded after receiving atip-off about a suspicious Toyota Quantum onthe R510. The police were assisted by mine se-curity officials during the operation. Allegedly,Boitekong Police were also informed and thesuspicious vehicle was pulled over.

All suspects were found in the vehicle thatwas travelling from Northam towards Rusten-burg. While searching the vehicle, copper ca-bles with the estimated value of R200 000 werefound. A firearm with six live rounds was also

found in the car. The suspects were arrested andare expected to appear in Rustenburg Magistra-tes Court soon.

The North West acting provincial commissi-oner, Major General Jacob Tsumane thankedthe two stations and security officials for excel-lent work.

Chinese burger agter tralies vir onwettige vuurwapen

People are reminded to have their influ-enza vaccination as soon as the vaccinebecomes available at a pharmacy orhealth care centre.

The National Health Laboratory Ser-vice (NHLS) recently announced a delayin the availability of the influenza vacci-ne for 2015.

It said there had been a change in in-fluenza viruses circulating during the2014 season.

As a result, the influenza strains inclu-ded in the 2015/16 vaccines have had tobe changed. This resulted in global de-lays in manufacturing and quality cont-rol of the 2015 southern hemisphere vac-cine. Influenza is a contagious respirato-ry illness that can cause mild to severeillness. It can also aggravate chronichealth problems or lead to pneumonia,for example, which in turn could lead todeath.

Doctor Robyn Holgate, from ER24,urges people to get vaccinated.

“It is never too late to vaccinate, eventhough it may take up to two weeks todevelop sufficient protection for the win-ter months. I am glad the correct strainshave been included in the vaccination forthe coming season, even if it meant thevaccine arriving a little late,” she said.

There are people who say they havebeen vaccinated in the past but still gotinfluenza and, therefore, choose not toget vaccinated again.

Dr Holgate explained that they mayhave been infected with one of thestrains not included in the current vacci-ne.

She explained that the influenza vac-cine is usually a preparation against thethree most probable strains of the virusfor the current flu season.

These are an A/California/7/2009(H1N1)-like virus, an A/Switzer-land/9715293/2013(H3N2)-like virusand AB/Phuket/3073/2013-like virus.

Pregnant women, irrespective of thestage of pregnancy, should get vaccina-ted as they are at higher risk. Womenwho are still within their two weeks afterdelivery should also have the vaccinati-on.

can trial proved the safety of the influen-za vaccine for pregnant women.

Other high-risk groups that must ha-ve the vaccine include:

Adults and children who are receivingregular medical care for conditions likechronic pulmonary and cardiac disease,chronic renal diseases, diabetes and si-milar metabolic disorders. People whoare immunosuppressed (including HIV-infected people) and those who are mor-bidly obese (BMI≥40 kg/m2) should al-so have the vaccine.

Adults and children who come intocontact with those who are high-risk. Pe-ople over the age of 65.

Children between the ages of sixmonths and five years.

Dr Holgate said healthcare workersmust also have the vaccination.

“By the very nature of their work,they may be more exposed to virusesthan other members of the public. It isvital they ensure their own health bystaying healthy, washing their hands andusing appropriate barrier protection. Theinfluenza vaccine is one way of ensuringthey stay at work during the wintermonths,” she said.

It is important to note that influenzais different from a cold. The key diffe-rence between colds and influenza is thevery high temperatures one gets with theassociated symptoms of influenza.

onthou is dat dit nie ’n diens is wat gelewerword soos deur ’n sekuriteitsmaatskappynie, maar meer van mense binne ’n betrokkegemeenskap wat mekaar ondersteun ommisdaad te voorkom,” sê Du Toit. There is a high chance that teenagers haveor will have an encounter with alcohol eitherthrough experimenting or through someoneelse’s drinking.

“As a parent, it is your responsibility toprotect them from underage drinking by tea-ching them that alcohol is for adult consump-tion only. You need to equip them with theright tools and knowledge to say no to alco-hol when they are away from your supervisi-on.”

This is the advice from Naazia Ismail,South African Depression and AnxietyGroup (SADAG) project manager.

Teens have less physical tolerance to theeffects of alcohol, and their brains which arestill developing, are more susceptible to alco-hol-related harm.

In a 2010 publication, the US NationalInstitute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholismstated that most studies show the benefits ofallowing children to drink in the home orcontrolled environment are non-existent.

“This means that as a parent, keepingthem safe includes saying no to them usingalcohol at home,” said Ismail.

According to SADAG, it is an adult’s res-ponsibility to keep communication open withteenagers in order for them to understand theconsequences and dangers of underage drin-king. Open communication also allows gui-dance to be given to teenagers with how tosay no to peer pressure.

Listen to your children:The more open your relationship with your

children is, the more likely they will feelcomfortable with talking to you about any is-sues, including alcohol. Listen to them, don’tjudge and let them know they can come toyou and trust you.

Teach them to deal with peer pressure:Give them some examples of how to say

‘no’ without losing face. If your child is offe-red alcohol, here are some examples of whathe or she can say, which includes using whitelies that involve you or the other parent:

. “No, thanks.”

. “Not today, thanks.”

. “I don’t like the way it (beer, wine, cider)tastes.”

. “I’ll be grounded for life if my dad findsout I’ve been drinking.”

. “My mom will not teach me how to driveif she finds out I have been drinking.”

. “I need all my brain cells for rugby prac-tice (math test, homework) tomorrow.”

If your child is offered alcohol, here aresome examples of what he or she can do:

. Leave the scene

. Change the subject

. Laugh it offTeach them to say no to adults:They should learn to say no to adults who

send them to the tavern or the shop to buyalcohol, or adults who offer them a taste orsip of an alcoholic drink and promise not totell.

Invest in recreational activities and inspending quality time with your children:

Encourage your teens to take part in acti-vities that develop interests and skills thatwill help them feel good about themselveswithout the use of alcohol. Hobbies, schoolevents, sports, healthy relationships, and vo-lunteer work are examples of such activities.

Talk about substance abuse:If you don’t tell them the facts, someone

else will – and the ‘facts’ they get from

friends are seldom true. Instead of waitinguntil a problem arises, talk to your teen aboutyour concerns and the messages they may begetting from the media and their peers.

Know the facts and then teach them:Know the facts about alcohol. You can’t

expect your child to know the effects of alco-hol on the body and the risks of alcohol misu-se if you don’t have all the information your-self. Be informed and ensure your teenagerknows the effects of alcohol and the dangersit presents.

. People who begin drinking before theage of 15 are four times more likely to beco-me alcohol dependent than those who havetheir first drink at age 20 or older.

. Teens that use alcohol are three timesmore likely to be involved in violent crime.

. 67% of teens who drink before the ageof 15 will go on to use illegal drugs.

. In 56% of reported rape cases, the vic-tims have been under the influence of alco-hol.

Daar’s soveel mites oor tuinmaak in omloopdat ek besluit het om ’n bietjie dieper te gra-we en agter die waarheid te kom. Tuinmaakis lekker en lonend, en elkeen doen dit graagop sy eie manier.

Maar af en toe hoor ’n mens van “gouereëls” waarby jy moet hou as jy ’n mooi engesonde tuin wil hê. Hoe weet jy wat is waaren wat nie? Kom ons skei die koring vandie kaf.

Dis beter om jou grasperk saans nat tespuit, ten einde verdamping te voorkom

ValsTrouens, deur snags water te gee, stel jy

jou grasperk bloot aan swampatogene watin koel, klam toestande en donker plekkefloreer. As jy jou grasperk laat in die dagof saans water gee, kry die swam presies wathy nodig het om te floreer en sal dit jou gras-perk siek maak. Onthou net, maak die graseerder vroeg soggens nat, want dan kry ditkans om deur die dag uit te droog terwyl jysteeds verdamping uit die grond self beperk.

Grond met ’n goeiestruktuur werk soos ’n spons – dit hou waterbinne en skep ’n medium wat reënwater die-per die grond in lei en kalsium, magnesium,kalium en ander voedingstowwe aan die

plante beskikbaar stel.Jy kan nooit genoeg water gee nieValsIn werklikheid gee die meeste tuiniers hul

plante te veel water, wat plante kan laat vrekomdat hul wortelstelsels nie suurstof kry nie.Die meeste tuiniers gee eerder te veel as temin water. Sorg liefs vir goeie dreinering,op enkele uitsonderings na is dit belangrikervir jou plante se gesondheid as water. Ont-hou net, terwyl plante hulle nog moet vestignadat hulle uitgeplant is - selfs droogtebe-stande plante - moet hulle genoeg water kry.Maar as dit kom by water gee in die alge-meen, is die goue reël dat jy een keer perweek in warm, droë weer moet water gee.Onthou dat plante se waterbehoeftes verskil.Beplan verskillende sones in jou tuin metplante wat baie, matig en min water ver-bruik, dan is tuinnatmaak makliker en jouwaterrekening kleiner.

As jy op ’n warm dag water op plantein volson spuit, sal die blare skroei

wat op plante se blare waargeneem word,kom gewoonlik van ’n swam of bakterie enis nie die gevolg van waterdruppels wat dieson se strale versterk en die plant skroei nie.Dis moontlik dat dié mite weens besproeiingmet brak water ontstaan het. Brak water be-vat hoë vlakke van opgeloste soute, en wan-neer die water verdamp, bly die soute agter,wat moontlik die blare kan brand. In gebiedewaar brak water voorkom, moet tuiniers eer-der reënwater vir besproeiingsdoeleindesopvang. Die enigste rede waarom ’n mensnie op die warmste tyd van die dag moet tuinnatmaak nie, is om waterverlies weens ver-damping te beperk. Tog, as jy sien jou planteverwelk omdat hulle dors is op ’n baie warmdag, is dit beter om hulle maar lafenis te gee.

Is dié mites oor tuinmaak regtig waar?

Heerlike gebak - al-mal versier met …..bessies!!!

KersiekoekVerhit oond tot

190° C. Bespuit tweepanne met deursnit17,5cm en voer uitmet waspapier. Plaas170g sagte margarienen 170g strooisuikerin mengbak en klopgoed tot romerig.

Voeg 3 groot eiers by en klop goed. Sif 170gbruismeel en 5ml bakpoeier in en vou in. Ver-deel tussen 2 koekpanne en maak gelyk bo.Bak 25 – 30 minute tot gaar. Keer uit op draad-rak en laat afkoel.

Versiersel: Meng 60g sagte botter met 110ggesifte versiersuiker. Ontpit 60g vars kersies,kap fyn en voeg by versiersuiker. Smeer tussendie lae.

Bolaag: Plaas 170g strooisuiker, 1 eierwit,15ml warm water en bie-tjie kremetart in mengbak en verhit liggies in die mikrogolf. Klop tot die mengsel dik is. Laat afkoel ensmeer bo en aan kante van koek en laat stol.Druk 300g ontpitte kersies bo en op kante vandie koek en laat stol.

SwartwoudkoekKoop of bak ’n tweelaag sjokoladekoek en

sny elke laag horisontaal in twee. Vulsel: Dreineer 2 x 410g rooi kersies en

hou 200ml van die stroop. Ontpit kersies in-dien nodig en hou 12 eenkant vir versiering.Meng 40ml mielieblom en 200ml kersiestroopen kook tot dik en deursigtig. Kleur rooi metvoedselkleursel en voeg kersies by. Meng en

laat afkoel. Strooi 15ml gelatien op 50ml wateren laat week. Smelt mengsel in mikrogolf.Klits 500ml room tot amper styf en klits gela-tien geleidelik by; klits tot styf. Klits 15ml strooisuiker by en geur met bietjie Kirsch. Be-sprinkel die koeklae met Kirsch. Smeer kersie-mengsel en roommengsel om die beurt opkoeklae en druk liggies vas. Smeer room bo-open langsaan. Bespuit met roomrosies en ver-sier met kersies. Verkoel goed voor opdiening.

SjokoladekoekVoorverhit die oond tot 180° C. Sif saam

twee keer: 360g koekmeelblom, 200ml kakao,5ml sout en 7ml koeksoda. Voeg by 375mlstrooisuiker. Meng 375ml water, 5ml vanielje-geursel en 275ml mayonaise. Voeg stadig bydie droë mengsel. Meng goed, maar nie te veelnie. Skep in twee 20-cm voorbereide koekpan-ne en bak 30 –45 minute.Keer uit opdraadrakkie enlaat heeltemalafkoel.

Vulsel: Klits250ml varsroom en geurmet 12,5mlstrooisuiker envanieljegeur-sel.

Smeer ’n la-gie aarbeikon-fyt oor een koeklaag, gevolg deur ’n lagieroom. Plaas die ander koeklaag bo-op. Skepdie res van die room bo-op en versier met heelvars aarbeie.

Butter cakeGrease a deep 20cm round cake pan, cover

base with baking paper. Combine together:275g castor sugar, 3 eggs, 250ml plain flour,125ml self-raising flour, 2ml bicarbonate ofsoda and 125ml milk. Beat on medium speedin a food mixer until mixture is smooth. Spreadinto prepared pan.

Bake in moderately slow oven over 1¼hours. Stand a few minutes before turning ontoa wire rack to cool. Top cake with cream fros-ting and maraschino cherries.

Frosting: Beat 125g soft butter and 240gicing sugar and 30ml milk with electric beateruntil as white as possible.

Cream cheese lemon cakeGrease a 21cm ring cake pan. Combine the

following: 125g butter, 125g cream cheese,30ml grated lemon rind, 250ml castor sugar,2 eggs, 110g self-raising flour and 75g flour.

Beat in electricmixer on low speeduntil combined.Spoon mixture intothe prepared pan.Bake in moderatelyslow oven over 55minutes. Stand afew minutes beforeturning onto a wirerack o cool. Dustwith icing sugar andserve with straw-berries.

Biscotti withcream

Preheat oven to 180° C. Spread 125g blan-ched almonds on a baking tray and place inoven for 4 minutes until nuts are goldenbrown; cool.

Biscotti: Brush a 26 x 4,5cm x 8cm bar tin

with oil and line the base with baking paper.Place 3 egg whites in a clean, dry mixing

bowl. Beat until stiff peaks form. Gradually add 125ml castor sugar and a lit-

tle vanilla essence; beat constantly until thickand glossy and the sugar has dissolved. Add180g flour and almonds and fold ingredientstogether, using a metal spoon. Spread into pre-pared tin and smooth the surface.

Bake for 25 minutes; remove from oven andcool completely in tin. Turn out loaf and wrapin aluminium foil. Refrigerate overnight. Pre-heat oven to 160°C. Brush two baking trayswith oil. Using a sharp serrated knife, cut loafinto 5mm slices. Arrange the slices on two gre-ased oven trays and bake 30 minutes until bis-cotti are lightly golden and brown. Serve withfresh berries and beaten cream.

MMA (gemengde vegkuns) is besig omboks te vervang as die gunsteling veg-sport. Boks se laaste hoop volgens mywas met die groot geldgeveg tussen Man-ny Pacquiao en Floyd Mayweather, maarna ’n swak vertoning van veral Maywea-ther dink ek boks se skip het gesink.

MMA is egter ook nie sonder sy swakvertonings nie. Die geveg tussen GideonDrotschie en Tumelo Maputha onlangs indie EFC het ook dieselfde soort vertoningopgelewer. Drotschie het vir drie rondtesom Maputha gedans op baie dieselfdemanier soos Mayweather probeer wegblyhet van Pacquiao af. Die groot verskil wasdat Maputha nie so aggressief soos Pac-quiao was nie. Maputha het net nooit dieafstand tussen hom en Drotschie probeertoemaak nie, met die gevolg dat Drotschiedie geveg met punte gewen het nadat hyten minste ’n paar skoppe kon land.

Daarby moet gesê word dat in MMAvuiste nie die enigste gevaar is nie. So,

vir Maputha om die afstand toe te maak maakhy homself oop om grond toe gevat te word,waar hy weet Drotschie baie sterker as hy is.

Soos die naam aandui is MMA ’n mengel-moes van verskillende gevegskunste. Dit hetbegin met die vraag watter gevegskuns diemees effektiewe een is?

Dit het egter ontwikkel as ’n sport op syeie. Hoewel dit nog ’n relatiewe jong sportis, is dit reeds die vinnigste groeiende sportin die wêreld. In die VSA maak dit goeie vor-dering om geldgewys boks verby te steek. InSuid-Afrika is ’n MMA vegter reeds geldelikbeter af as ’n bokser.

Die rede vir die gewildheid van die sportdink ek is te danke aan wat dit bied. In dieverlede het stoeiers gestoei en boksers het ge-boks. Nou word aanhangers van elkeen vandié soort sport bymekaar getrek by in sportwat iets van alles bied.

Klerksdorp Bowls Club hosted their secondannual Potjiekos Day Tournament on Friday1 May 2015.

Thirty-four teams entered, meaning that136 players were in action, including the

team of Pieter van Niekerk, all the way fromKoffiefontein, on their second visit toKlerksdorp’s Potjiekos Day.

A day like this can only be successfulwith the support of sponsors and donationsand the organisers would like to thank Bende Swart and Ettienne Stoltz of Oranje Toyo-

ta, Dawie Barnard of Raddix, Rhona du Ples-sis of Perfect Nails, Alan and Germaine Kir-kland and Mike’s Kitchen for their support.

Thanks to Henry Peens and Dirk Pretori-us who were in charge of the Potjiekos potsand to all the other members working in thebackground, well done for a great success.

The winners for the day were the combi-ned team of Potch Town and PCC: RonniePalmer, Jean du Plessis (Potch Town), Jak-kie Bezuidenhout and Dawie van Rensburg(PCC). The runners-up were Don van Vuur-en, Charles Kingsley, Herman Pretorius andYvonne Glaser of Klerksdorp.
