The “rolling roll call of the states” is the formal process by which delegates cast votes on behalf of their respective states and paves the way for the nomi-nation of the party’s presidential candidate, which will officially take place on the final day of the convention next Thursday.

Convention spokesman Kyle Downey said the states will vote in alphabetical order, as opposed to the occasional approach of trying to rig the process so a specific state — for example, Mitt Romney’s home state of Massachusetts — puts him over the threshold he needs to secure the nomination.

The vote is also generally held later in the convention — usually on the third of the four days.

The process used to be far more en-tertaining and important, with the par-ty uncertain who its nominee would be at the time it went to convention. There was some talk early this year of a competitive convention if the GOP nominating contest dragged on too long, but it’s clear now that Romney will be the party’s nominee.

All of Romney’s opponents except Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and Rick

Santorum have released their del-egates, with Newt Gingrich releasing his today.

Santorum is expected to release his delegates this week; Paul is not ex-pected to release his.

Some have suggested Paul could win as many as 500 of the 2,286 del-egates at stake. But those close to the situation suggest the number will be closer to 200, and Paul campaign manager Jesse Benton says the cam-paign has identified 373 delegates and alternates (alternates generally don’t vote).

“We have identified every RNC del-egate and alternate, both bound to us, bound to Romney or unbound, and have 373 delegates and alternates that support Dr. Paul,” Benton said.

That’s about the only drama that will take place Monday. The rest is basically a formality and a campaign rally.

While the vote will pave the way for Romney to officially win the nomi-nation, he won’t actually accept that nomination until Thursday. That al-lows the party to continue spending primary funds (which it cannot legal-ly do after he’s officially nominated) during the intervening three-day pe-riod and makes for a grand finale at the end of the convention.

Claiming health care bragging rights, Mitt Romney said Thursday his plan to provide health insurance to everyone in Massachusetts was superior to the one it inspired,President Barack Obama’s much-debated national law.

“My health care plan I put in place in my state has everyone insured, but we didn’t go out and raise taxes on people and have a unelected board tell people what kind of health care they can have,” Romney said in an interview with CBS’ Denver affiliate, KCNC.

The law signed by Romney in 2006 sought to expand health care but did not guarantee coverage for all. Rom-ney and Massachusetts lawmakers decided that rather than reinvent the entire health care system, they would instead close a series of holes, allow-ing the vast majority of residents to keep their existing plans.

Obama’s law basically followed the same outline — a private insurance system with an expanded government safety net. But there are some impor-tant differences.

The federal law is national, and most of its important provisions are binding even in states that oppose it. Romney’s law was a state effort that enjoyed support from both political

parties, and the Republican can-didate argues that health

care reform should re-main a state pre-

rogative.

Obama’s law cut Medi-care payments to hospitals, insurers and other service providers. As a state law, Romney’s plan had no ef-fect on Medicare.

Romney’s law has led to about 400,000 Massachusetts residents gaining coverage, state officials say. More than 98 percent of state resi-dents are covered. Obama’s law has already led to coverage for more than 2.5 million young adults on their par-ents’ plans. If all of its provisions go into effect, more than 30 million un-insured people will be covered.

The Massachusetts law requires res-idents to have insurance, with certain exemptions.

Those who can show they earn too much to qualify for the state’s subsidized health care plan, but not enough to afford even the least ex-pensive nonsubsidized plan, are not required to pay the so-called “indi-vidual mandate” penalty.

The Supreme Court ruled that Obama’s individual mandate consti-tutional — as a tax. It, too, has ex-

emptions for financial hardship, reli-gious beliefs, and membership in an American Indian tribe.

c r e a t e d an unelected board — known as the Commonwealth Health In-surance Connec-tor Au-t h o r i t y Board — w h i c h o v e r -s e e s a n i n -dependent state agency that decides what level of insurance complies with the state law.

The agency can also exempt people whose financial hardships prevent them from enrolling in health insur-ance.

Since Obama’s plan was modeled on Romney’s, some conservatives remain wary of the former Massa-chusetts governor. Some GOP activ-

ists were angered when a Romney spokeswoman touted the Massachu-setts plan on Fox News earlier this month.

In Thursday’s interview, one of a series the presumptive Republi-can presidential nominee gave local broadcast outlets in swing states, Romney was asked how he’d appeal to women voters on health care and other issues. The Obama campaign has been pounding Romney for his

stances on birth control, abortion and other women’s issues.

Romney replied by talking about how he’d improve the economy and education. Then he shifted to health care, saying it was “a big issue.”

Romney also laughed off concerns that a hurricane could disrupt the Republican National Convention in Tampa next week. “The winds of change are coming,” he said, “so we’re looking forward to it.”

“Working poor New Yorkers who go to work every day at minimum wage jobs aren’t even keeping pace with the rate of inflation,” said Senator Gillibrand. “Not only does the cur-rent minimum wage oftenkeep these working families below the poverty line, it keeps needed spending power out of our local economy. Increas-ing the minimum wage is a common sense solution for our working poor

families who are decid-ing which bill they can afford to pay this month and for our local Queens businesses who will profit from additional consumer spending.”

“As a small business owner that employs ten workers, I don’t resort to paying my employees just $7.25 an hour – because I know it is just not enough,” said Hanette Gomez, DDS, owner of Clinica Dental Latina in Corona, Queens, and Cosmetic Den-tal Image in Howard Beach, Brook-lyn. “My employees deserve better, and I want to make sure they know I appreciate their work. They deserve a wage that allows them to live with dignity and respect. The cost of living in Jackson Heights has gone way up, and more and more working people need help even just to cover the ba-sics. Paying people a little more lifts all boats, including mine; if more

people spend in my neighborhood, my business does better in the long run. And that’s why I pay all my employees above the minimum wage, and why I support legislation that will increase the minimum wage to $9.80.

“Every day I go to work I wonder

if my husband and I are going to be able to pay the bills and spend time with our little daughter Leslie,” said Leticia Guaman, Queens resident and Queens factory worker who makes minimum wage. “I work at a factory that pays only the minimum wage, and after 35 hours of work a week I end up bringing home about $175 af-ter taxes. It is impossible to cover the basic expenses for my family with this salary. For example, in order to cover the monthly rent of $1300, my family sleeps in the living room and we rent out our bedroom. In order to save money, I walk to most places instead of taking the train. How is it possible that two parents working full-time can’t make enough to sup-port their family? We need a higher minimum wage, not just for my fam-ily, but for thousands of workers who struggle every day.”

“Gone are the days when having a job, and going to work every day equate to making a decent living,” said Camille Rivera of UnitedNY. “Even with parents working multiple jobs, they are still having trouble put-ting food on the table, and keeping a roof over their kids’ heads. Increas-ing the minimum wage would help make it easier to raise a family in New York, while also sending a clear message that workers have rights,

and deserve to be treated with re-spect.”

Senator Gillibrand, along with 16 of her Senate colleagues, is pushing the effort in the Senate to pass the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2012, legislation which would increase the minimum wage to $9.80 in three 85-cent increments over a three-year pe-riod. To keep up with the rising cost of living, the wage would be indexed to inflation. The purchasing power of the minimum wage is currently at a historic low, with the last increase in the federal minimum wage taking place in July 2009. If the minimum wage had kept up with inflation, it would be estimated at more than $10.50 an hour today. The legislation will also raise the minimum wage for tipped workers for the first time in more than 20 years, raising it to a level that is 70 percent of the regular minimum wage.

A majority of the lowest wage earn-ers in New York, or 84 percent, are adult workers, not teenagers in after-school and seasonal jobs. More than half of low-wage workers are women, many with children, and more than 40 percent are minorities, including an estimated 249,200 Hispanic residents in New York City who would benefit from a pay increase.

According to United NY, someone working full-time at minimum wage earns $290 a week, or just $15,080 yearly without any time off. This annual salary for a minimum wage earning working poor family of three is $3,000 below the poverty level on an annual basis, making it difficult to make ends meet and increasing de-pendency on government assistance programs. The Fair Minimum Wage Act will boost the minimum wage to $20,000, lifting those working poor families above the poverty line.

A new measure, signed into law recently by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, gives the state Department of Educa-tion more authority to make sure the schools are using approved instruc-tion methods and protecting students’ finances after they pay tuition. The measure followed cases in which students lost their tuition after some schools abruptly closed.

Overall levels of negative equity improved in the second quarter of the year compared with the first quarter, as home values continue to rise. But about half of borrowers under 40 still owe more than their homes are worth, the analysis found.

Younger borrowers are more likely to be affected by negative equity in part because they generally have been in their home for shorter periods of time and had less time to build equity before the housing debacle. But on the bright side, younger borrowers tend to be in relatively “shallow” water compared to older borrowers and are less likely to be delinquent on payments, said Stan Humphries, chief economist at

Zillow.com.

The disproportionate impact on younger borrowers may actually have a helpful effect on home values, by creating tight inventory of homes for sale. Younger borrowers trapped by negative equity tend to be reluctant to sell, even though their homes are often the most attractive to first-time buyers who might be ready to plunge into the market. “Sellers don’t want to sell, even if buyers want to buy,” he said.

When they do sell, prices are higher - which helps push values up. The process is actually moving the mar-ket toward recovery, but it’s a gradual process, he said. “Over all, the sec-ond-quarter report is positive,” said Mr. Humphries. “The housing market is healing, albeit slowly.”

These results come from the second edition of the new Zillow Negative Equity Report, which looks at cur-rent, outstanding loan amounts for individual, owner-occupied homes, and compares them to those homes’ current estimated values.

Of the 30 largest markets tracked by Zillow, negative equity fell the most from the first to the second quarter in the Phoenix metropolitan area (from nearly 56 percent to about 52 percent) and the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area (from 46 percent to roughly 44 per-cent). The Las Vegas market contin-ues to have the highest rate of nega-tive equity, with nearly 69 percent of borrowers underwater (down from 71 percent in the first quarter.)

The country’s underwater homes are slowly resurfac-ing as the housing market improves. But younger borrowers are still more likely to be submerged, a new report from real estate site Zillow.com finds.

El Estudio sobre la IRA, entregado esta semana, muestra que el porcen-taje de los trabajadores americanos quienes tienen una cuenta de jubi-lación individual, ha bajado hasta solamente el 38%. Esto marca la cu-arta caída desde 2008 - el inicio de la actual crisis económica. En esas fechas, casi el 42% de los americanos tenían algún tipo de cuenta de jubi-lación individual.

Las cuentas de jubilación indi-vidual, que antes eran consideradas como un “refugio seguro” para los Americanos de clase media, aumen-taron su popularidad durante medios del año 2000. Aunque las cuentas de jubilación individual ofrecen benefi-cios considerables sobre los impues-tos, comparadas con otros tipos de inversiones, menos americanos las han elegido como su elección de in-versión en los últimos años.

El estudio comprensivo muestra que hasta las personas que tienen una cuenta de jubilación individual, no están realizando necesariamente las contribuciones. With the Olympics gone, so are many of broadcast television’s prime-time viewers.

No broadcast program exceeded 10 million viewers last week, the Nielsen company said Tuesday. NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” on Tuesday was closest, finishing just under that mark.

Between “Talent” and an exhibition football game last Saturday, NBC kept the crown as the most-watched network for one more week, after tak-ing the previous three weeks because of the Olympics. NBC also debuted a new season of “Grimm” and the mili-tary-themed reality show “Stars Earn Stripes” that both finished among Nielsen’s top 20, but with less than six million viewers each.

NBC averaged 5.3 million viewers for the week in prime time, CBS had 5.1 million, Fox had 4.3 million, ABC had 3.7 million , ION Television had 1.1 million and the CW had 720,000 .

NBC’s “Nightly News” topped the evening newscasts with an average of 7.8 million viewers. ABC’s “World News” was second with 7 million and the “CBS Evening News” had 5.5 million viewers.

The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund announced today that it will brief participants at the Democratic and Republican National Conventions on the growing Latino electorate and its likely impact in Election 2012.

With Latinos the fastest-growing and second largest population group in the United States, the Latino elec-torate is poised to play a decisive role in the election this November. Ac-cording to projections from the NA-LEO Educational Fund, more than 12.2 million Latino voters are expect-ed to cast ballots on Election Day, an increase of 26% from 2008.

A 2011 survey found that over half of US employers are moni-toring their employees’ computer usage. How can you find out if you are one of them? And if you are, what should you do about it?

There are two main ways employers track computer usage — with moni-toring software on your desktop, and by watching the traffic on the corpo-rate network. Also, many companies have written guidelines about Inter-net usage and may indicate if they are monitoring you. HR departments should have these policies available for employee review.

Monitoring Software on Your Com-puter

Monitoring software tracks all your activity and sends logs to the boss or IT department. Without your knowl-edge, they may be receiving reports listing the websites you visit, time spent in specific software programs, or even how much you play solitaire. The programs that do this are myriad, but there are often signs that they’re running.

On a Windows machine:First, look in the system tray and

start up folder. Do you see programs with names like VNC or LogMeIn, GoToMyPC, Shadow, SpyAgent, Web Sleuth and Silent Watch. An IT person can choose to hide these pro-grams from the user so they are not in the Start Menu, but many assume the user won’t look for them or know what these programs are.

The Windows taskbar often lists all the actively running programs. Check all the icons in the taskbar in the bot-tom right hand corner of the screen and make sure you know what each program is.

The Windows Firewall must give monitoring programs permission to send and receive information. Search ‘firewall’, open it, click ‘exceptions’ or ‘add program’. Then look to see if any of the above-mentioned programs or any programs that are unknown to you have permission to pass through the ports.

On a Mac:Open Finder and look under appli-

cations , click ‘utilities’ and launch ‘activity monitor’. Search for un-known processes or any with VNC in the name.

Are You Being Monitored At Work?

If you see something in any of these places that you’re unfamiliar with, search it online to see if it’s a moni-toring program.

(Sidenote- many of these monitor-ing programs can be purchased off the shelf and used to monitor home computers. These are also tools an ID thief could use on a public computer to collect data.)

If You Find Monitoring SoftwareIf you do find any monitoring soft-

ware on your work computer, do NOT try to remove it. Two reasons: first, doing so may make it look like you have something to hide, raising suspicions; second, your employer has a right to have this software in-stalled on the computer. After all it’s their machine.

Monitoring Through The NetworkThe second way employers can

monitor what you do on your com-puter is a lot harder to detect, because there’s no trace on your personal ma-chine; it’s all done through the net-work. Employers can track the files you access on the corporate drives, the email you send through the com-pany system, and the websites you visit via your work machine. And un-less you have an “in” with the IT de-partment, there’s virtually no way to know if your company is monitoring traffic this way.

So What If You Want A Little Pri-vacy?

Since so many employers have the power to monitor their employees, it’s safest to assume that you are be-ing watched. But what if you really need to do something privately?

EMAIL: If you are hunting for a new job or your employer is strict about use of corporate accounts for personal email, use web-based email. Most of the major providers encrypt webmail so it can’t be intercepted on the network.

SMARTPHONE: As long as you are connected over your cellular data connection (and not the company Wi-Fi), you can surf the web and send private email (on your non-corporate account) without detection.

If you’re sending out lots of resumes without getting many calls for interviews, it’s time to conclude that your resume isn’t doing its job. If you’re like most people, you’re making at least a few of these mistakes--which will put your resume promptly in the “no” pile.

1. It’s generic. If your resume reads just like dozens of other candidates’, no employer is going to call you. Your resume needs to convey that you’re an exceptional candidate, not just an average one who’s no different from other applicants. Which leads us to?

2. It just lists duties and responsi-bilities, not accomplishments. In a job market that’s flooded with candi-dates, a resume that reads like a series of job descriptions won’t excite a hir-ing manager. What will excite a hir-ing manager is a resume that shows a track record of achievement, so you need to list specific accomplishments, not just duties.

3. It’s full of dense paragraphs rather than bulleted lists. Employers will only skim your resume initially, not read it word-for-word, and large blocks of text are hard to skim. An employer will take in more informa-tion about you if you use simple bul-leted points.

4. It leads with your education, even though you’ve been out of school for more than a few years. Generally,

your education should go beneath your work experience, because em-ployers are most interested in what work experience you’ve had. Leading with your education just buries what will make you most attractive to an employer.

5. It doesn’t include the dates of employment for each job you’ve held. Employers want to know how long you were at each job and when. Resumes without clear dates are an immediate red flag that make hir-ing managers suspect you’re hiding something.

6. It wastes space on things that are irrelevant, like descriptions of your employer’s business. Some candi-dates devote two to three lines per job to describing the employer itself--its size and the nature of its business. Hiring managers might want that in-formation when you move to the in-terview stage, but your resume isn’t the place for it. Your resume should focus on you and you alone.

7. It’s not specific. Employers want concrete specifics. It’s not enough to say that you “revitalized” a depart-ment or “publicized” a program. What exactly did you do and what did it result in?

8. It includes everything you’ve ever done, rather than just the high-lights. The longer your resume is, the less likely an employer is to see the parts you want them to see. The ini-tial scan of your resume is about 20

seconds--do you want that divided among three pages, or do you want it focused on the most important things you want to convey? Short and con-cise means that employers are more likely to read the parts you most care about.

9. It includes irrelevant details, such as your age or your children’s names. Yes, people really do this. Employ-ers don’t care about these details, and including them will come across as naive and unprofessional.

10. It describes you in subjective terms. Your resume is for experi-ence and accomplishments only. It’s not the place for subjective traits, like “great leadership skills,” “strong writer,” or “creative innovator.” Hir-ing managers generally ignore any-thing subjective that an applicant writes about herself, because so many people’s self-assessments are wildly inaccurate; they’re looking for prov-able facts. If you have those traits, list the accomplishments that demon-strate them instead.

La automotriz BMW, con sus siglas en alemán de: Bayer-ische Motoren Werke, “Fábricas bávaras de motores” y sus subsidi-arias MINI y Rolls-Royce, tiene su sede en Munich, Alemania. Su conocido logotipo blanquiazul de BMW se creó en 1917, cuando la empresa aún se dedicaba a la fabricación de motores de avión y simboliza la bandera del Estado Libre de Baviera.

El primer M6 se remonta al 1983 cu-ando se presentó el (E24), un Coupé de grandes dimensiones con una mo-tor derivado del M1. Ese modelo se vendió hasta 1989. La segunda gen-eración del M6 aparece hasta el año 2005, como modelo 2006, es decir no hubo M6 durante 16 años, se trataba de una Coupé de grandes dimensio-nes y en esta ocasión se adicionó un convertible, bajo el cofre se encon-traba el gigantesco motor V10 de 500 hp que compartía todos los elementos mecánicos con el M5.

Se terminó de vender en el 2010. Hubo que esperar casi tres años para ver la nueva generacion donde apa-recen la Coupé y el convertible. El Nuevo M6 de la BMW crece en todos los aspectos, el tamaño, la comodidad y la practicidad, a su predecesor. Es impulsado por un doble turbo V8 de 4.4 litros con 32 valvulas, que genera 560 caballos de fuerza y 500 lbs-pie de torque. Trae el sistema “valvetron-

ic” de admisión variable y con inyec-ción directa de combustible. En una marcada diferencia del anterior mo-tor V10, el nuevo M6 gana un V8 de doble turbo. Va de cero a 62 mph en 4,3 segundos.

La EPA no ha publicado los resul-tados de la economía de combustible aún, pero BMW dice que el nuevo motor V8 consume de combustible un 30 por ciento menos que el an-terior V10 llevando 560 caballos de fuerza y 500 libras-pie de torque. El motor está acoplado a una trasmisión de siete cambios denominada 7M-DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) el accionamiento de los engranajes pu-ede ser completamente automático o hacerlos manualmente con las paletas ubicadas detrás del volante. La fuerza torsional es enviada al eje posterior y es recibida por un diferencial también firmado por M que envía el poder a las ruedas.

Al elegir entre los programas de cambio en los modos automático o manual, maximiza el ahorro de com-bustible, o la realización de plano. La parte delantera está caracterizada por enormes tomas de aire, igual para la parte media y baja, para proveer al sistema de doble turbo de aire a través del interenfriador, así como canalizar una buena parte del flujo hacia los ductos de frenos, que mantendrán el sistema fresco en altas velocidades. La parrilla ha dejado a un lado la form a ovoide para dar paso a un par de trapecios asimétricos que están flanqueados por la óptica principal que también es de formas extrañas.

El M6 viene con llantas de 19 pulgadas, un techo de fibra de carbono, un kit de carrocería (incluyen-do un deflector de aire frontal más agresivo, exten-siones de las aletas laterales y un difusor trasero), faros de xenón adaptativos , amortiguadores ajust-ables de suspensión, tapizados en piel. Asientos delanteros deportivos con ajustes de memoria para el conductor, de doble zona de control de clima automático, asientos delanteros con calefacción, Bluetooth e interfaz iDrive de BMW.

Tiene un enorme tablero, donde en el centro se encuentra la pantalla LCD que muestra la cartografía del GPS y todos los demás ajustes del vehículo coman-dados desde el iDrive, que pese a haber sido mejorado, aun es poco intuitivo y es dificil entenderlo. Trae el BMW ConnectedDrive que permite el enlace con teléfonos celulares y con dispositivos de a l m a c e – namient o externos y r e – producir l a m ú s i – ca en el s i s t e m a Bang & Olufsen. Las opciones incluyen un head-up display, entrada sin llave / encendido, radio satelital, HD Radio, la integración del iPod / USB y asiento de cuero para el salpicadero y

la consola y llantas de 20 pulgadas.

El M6 ofrece el interior de extraor-dinarios materiales y una estupenda mano de obra, con una cabina cen-trada en un diseño ultra moderno. Destaca en acomodar a dos pasaje-ros, pero el asiento trasero es sólo apto para adultos en viajes cortos a la oficina o cerca de la casa. Los viajes largos le dejaran el cuerpo torsido. El espacio de cajuela es de 12.3 pies cúbicos en el convertible (10.6 pies cúbicos con la capota bajada) y tienen u pass-through para acomodar obje-tos largos.

La buena calidad de materiales, como la piel, plásticos y fibra de car-bón está perfectamente conjugada, brindando una atmosfera premium, sin caer en lo ostentoso de otras mar-cas. El convertible se retrae con cal-efacción para las plazas traseras de forma independiente de la capota de lona, que doblan como un deflector de viento cuando el techo se cae. La bajada de la capota dura unos 20 se-gundos, levantando se tarda sólo unos segundos más.

La suspensión está dotada del DDC (Dynamic Damper Control) ofrece tres grados de firmeza; Confort, Sport y Sport Plus que el conductor puede elegir con tan solo pulsar un botón ubicado junto a la palanca de cambios –que más bien parece un joystick.

En equipos de seguridad estándar el M6 incluye ABS en las 4 ruedas, frenos antibloqueo con características avanzadas de espera y el secado, con-trol de tracción y estabilidad, asientos delanteros airbags laterales, airbags delanteros de rodilla, reposacabezas activos y BMW Assist.

El conductor del M6 cuenta con el MDM (M Dynamic Mode). Solo hay que presionar uno de los dos botones localizados en el brazo izquierdo del volante, están marcados como M1 y M2, con la configuración M1 la pu-esta apunto de todo el M6 se modi-fica con un modo deportivo, la respu-esta de la dirección es más firme y la amortiguación es más rígida, con la opción M2 el conductor puede modi-ficar hasta seis parámetros del com-portamiento dinámico del M6, por ejemplo para uso en pista, se puede alterar la respuesta de la transmisión, la gestión del motor para sacarle todo el poder al V8, se desconecta el DSC y el DDC se coloca en Sport-plus, también se modifica la información proyectada en el parabrisas mediante el Head Up Display. Andando en el, y abusando en las curvas, se portó maravillosamente.

No parecia un convertible. Los cambios en la transmisión en modo automático son prácticamente im-perceptibles y gracias al doble turbo, el torque está presente y disponible en prácticamente todo el rango de revoluciones. Pero es recién el descu-bierto poder de la nueva M6 de que realmente impresiona, sus rivales el Jaguar XKR o el Porsche 911 van a tener que mirarlo de reojo, porque este M6 viene con todo.
