Graduates of the Level 5 Diploma in Hospitality Management will:

After completing the Diploma in Hospitality Management (Level 6), graduates may choose to undertake six months of additional study to complete the Diploma in Applied Hospitality Management (Level 6). In addition to the outcomes of the Level 5 diploma (outlined above), graduates with this quali"cation will:

Academic Entry Requirements GeneralStudents must be 18 years of age and above.

Level 5 and 6 Diplomas in Business1. Entry from NCEA: A minimum of 42 credits at Level 3

or higher. This must include a minimum of 14 credits at Level 3 or higher, in each of two subjects from the approved list, PLUS a further 14 credits at Level 3 or higher taken from no more than two additional domains or approved subjects, AND

2. Numeracy: A minimum of 14 credits at Level 1 or higher in maths on the National Quali"cations Framework, AND

3. Literacy: A minimum of 8 credits at Level 2 or higher in English; 4 credits must be in reading and 4 in writing, OR

4. Successful completion of a Level 4 or higher quali"cation taught by a New Zealand TEO.

Level 5 and 6 Diplomas in Hospitality Management1. Entry from NCEA. Preference will be given to students

with NCEA Level 2 or higher, OR

2. Successful completion of a Level 4 or higher quali"cation taught by a New Zealand TEO.

Level 6 Diplomas in Applied Hospitality ManagementFor direct entry into "nal semester - successful completion of NZMA’s Level 6 Diploma in Hospitality Management with

a minimum of 90% attendance.

InternationalAcademic entry requirements for international students are equivalent to the New Zealand requirements.

Applicants over 20 years of ageFor applicants over 20 years of age the entry criteria above may be waived, provided that the applicant can demonstrate life and/or work experience showing that they could enter the programme with a reasonable chance of success.

English Language Requirements Students who do not have English as a "rst language will need to show that they are capable of successfully completing the course by meeting the following entry condition:

1. An IELTS score of at least 5.5, or an equivalent internationally-recognised English language competency quali"cation, OR

2. Achieve the required level in the NZMA English Language Assessment.

How to Enrol/Application Process1. Complete the International Student Enrolment Form

correctly. Make sure the student applying signs the enrolment form.

2. Collect the supporting documentation as listed on the enrolment form including:

(a) Evidence of identity, date of birth and nationality (i.e. copy of passport). (b) Evidence of English language level or completion of placement test. (c) Evidence of high school quali"cations.

3. Email the International Student Enrolment Form and supporting documentation to your relevant Market Manager or [email protected]

4. Successful applicants will receive a conditional o!er of place and invoice.

5. You need to pay the invoice directly to Fern School of English or New Zealand Management Academies depending on your course.

6. You will receive an email with the o#cial o!er of place and receipt when we receive your payment and all necessary documents.

Intensive General English Pre-Intermediate

Learn to communicate effectively in English in a wide range of everyday and academic situations, both in New Zealand and internationally. This programme allows you to improve your English language skills so you can make the most of every opportunity, whether it is study, work or travel.

Minimum Entry Requirements: IELTS 4.0 or equivalent

Intermediate (4.5 – 5.0) – Upper Intermediate (5.0 – 6.5)

The EAP course prepares students for further study, work, or the IELTS exam. Once they finish intermediate level and reach an IELTS level of 5.0, students can choose to go into either English for Business or English for Hospitality to prepare for further study or work in those areas, or continue in EAP at upper intermediate level and prepare for the IELTS exam if they wish.

English for Hospitality Upper Intermediate

With a unique focus on English used in hospitality, this programme is ideally suited for someone wanting to study hospitality at NZMA or find work in the hospitality industry. You will gain English language skills needed to work in hotels, bars, cafes, or restaurants around the world. You will also gain the practical skills involved in preparing cocktails, cafe style coffee and pouring wine, as well as a taste of the hospitality programmes at NZMA.

English for Business Upper Intermediate

Fern’s Business English programme is ideal for those wanting to develop speci"c English language skills for study on NZMA business courses, or use in a wide range of business environments. You will gain English language skills necessary for dealing with the demands of business, such as meeting reports, e-mails and telephone conversations, as well as an insight into the skills required to be successful in the NZMA business programmes.

UK UniversitiesThirteen UK universities will provide "nal entry on to degree programmes (Year 3) to BTEC Higher National Diploma students and another forty "ve universities have con"rmed that they will give advanced entry on to degree programmes (Year 2) to BTEC Higher National Diploma students.

Edexcel has also received con"rmation from these forty "ve universities that they recognise Edexcel BTEC Higher National Diplomas gained outside the UK and will welcome applications on to degree programmes from students with such quali"cations.

Hospitality – a career in Demand

New Zealand’s large and vibrant hospitality industry

employs around 126,000 people. That’s nearly 7% of

the workforce, working in more than 18,000 businesses

around the country, and this is projected to increase

to over 132,000 by 2013.
