CENTERING MEDITATION by Jim BurkloDave: The “I am” passages [of John’s Gospel]may be Jesus’ poetic expressions of … amystical experience in which his personalityand ego fell away and the only reality hesensed was that of God. If this is how weunderstand the passages, then when Jesussaid “I am the way … no one comes to theFather, but by me”, this may mean that the wayto God is to become one with God, as Jesusdid. It may mean that we do not get to Godthrough dogma or doctrine, but rather throughmystical union with God, an experience sharedby mystics of many religions throughout history.
