I. It is SIX kilometres from Beirut on the

Damascus carriao-e road, and easily reached in 45

minut ,and being 400 ~ et above th s a level, onone of th lower lope of the Lebanon range, itcomlnands an ext n ive view of th plain and cityof Beirut, with vi \VS of the blue sea on the north

and \vest.II. It is in the political district of Mt. Lebanon,

which, since 1860 has been under the protection ofthe six gr at Europ an powers; with a ChristianGovernor, His Excellency AOUM P A HA, whose seatof gOY rnment and \iVinter residence are in sight ofA. furiyeh, about two kilometres to the south.
