FIVE INNINGS OR MORE, ONE EARNED RUN OR FEWER: Was re-called from Triple-A Nashville September 7 and is scheduled to make his fourth start of the season and his career…has allowed one earned run in each of his first three starts and has tossed at least five innings in each out-ing…joins John Henry Johnson (April 10-23, 1978) and Rich Harden (July 21-31, 2003) as the only pitchers in Oakland history to begin their career with three consecutive outings of five innings or more and one earned run or fewer…since the earned run became an official stat in 1913, no A’s pitcher has started his career with a four-game streak.

STARTING PITCHERS: Cotton is scheduled to make his fourth start to-day and all 14 of the starting pitchers the A’s have employed this year have made at least four starts…the 14 pitchers with four or more starts are tied for the most in modern Major League history (since 1900)…the A’s will become the fifth team to do it, joining Cincinnati (2003), Pittsburgh (1996), Cleveland (1993) and Baltimore (1955)…Cotton is one of 14 dif-ferent starting pitchers the A’s have used, which is second most in the American League (Los Angeles, 15) and tied for second most in Oakland history (1977 and 2009)…the record is (16 in 1983).
