OCEF helps out

with new

laptops

The OCEF awarded the OHS English De-partment 45 new Chromebooks as a part of their grant program.

The Chromebooks will allow students to ac-cess the internet and allow them the use of all the Google apps.

English teachers Hannah Camfield, Maggie Dorsey, and Joe Hayworth were the recipients of the grant.

OHS is grateful for the OCEF and the grant!

A surprise gift!Role Models to meet with sixth graders

Four seniors were chosen as DARE Role Models. They talk with sixth graders about avoiding substance abuse.

This is a annual program between OHS, OGS, and the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department.

The four Role Models are MaKayla Gayler, Clayton Walker, Jon Davis, and Somer Wells.

Ms. Eichelkraut received a surprise visit from former Spanish teacher Mrs. Anderson earlier this month.

Anderson presented Eichelkraut with a quilt she had put together from squares that the students had made.

Anderson subbed for Eichelkraut at the begin-ning of the year.

Engage Educate Empower

Oakwood High School and Unit District #76 will be hosting their annual Senior Citizens Holi-day Dinner at 11 a.m. on Wed., Dec. 2.

The dinner is a holiday tradition at OHS. The food is prepared by the OHS kitchen staff and served by student council members.

The dinner is open to all the district’s senior citi-zens. We ask that anyone interested in attending, please call ahead (354-2358) to guarantee that all are served.

The OHS band and chorus will entertain the guests.

Schoolwide food drive organized by FFA

The Oakwood FFA Chapter will be holding a Holi-day Food Drive to benefit the Oakwood Food Pantry from December 14 through December 18. Food will be collected in homerooms.

There are themes for each day to ensure the food pantry receives a variety of holiday type foods: Mashed Up Monday (ingredients for potato dishes), Too Stuffed Tuesday (ingredients for stuffing), Where's the Fruit Wednesday (ingredients for fruit dishes or pies), Turnip the Veggies Thursday (ingredients for vegetable dish-es), and Free for All Friday (any food item).

The winning homeroom (calculated as pounds col-lected per student) will receive a homeroom bowling trip in January!

In addition to collecting food items during home-room, FFA members will also be collecting food items at the home basketball games that week.

Bringing in two food items will earn you free admis-sion to the girls' basketball games, and a free bag of popcorn at the boys' basketball games. Please give what you can to help our community!

Did you know that by donating blood you could potentially save the lives of up to three people? Also, did you know that by donat-ing blood you could contribute to a scholarship program for graduating high school students?

OHS' Student Council and the Community Blood Services of Il-linois will host a blood drive in the high school gymnasium on Wed., Dec. 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Our goal for the drive is to col-lect at least 40 pints of blood. This could potentially save the lives of 120 people.

Additionally, CBSI will donate $250 to a scholarship fund that will be awarded to an OHS graduating senior at the end of the year if we collect a minimum of 20 donations. Every donation beyond that will contribute another $1 to the fund.

General requirements for donat-

ing blood are the individual must be at least 17 years old (16 years with parental consent form), weigh 110 pounds, have eaten breakfast/lunch, be well hydrated, and not have do-nated blood within the last 56 days. For a complete list of requirements, visit www.bloodservices.org.

Music dept. invites all to holiday concertJoin us as we celebrate the holidays

with the OGS band, OJH band and choir, as well as the OHS band and choir on at 7 p.m. on December 13 in the OHS gym-nasium.

Each of the ensembles will perform different tunes from classic carol arrange-ment, pop hits, and songs from some of our favorite movies.

The OGS band will perform classic tunes that everyone knows. Selections from the junior high include Simple Gifts of Christmas, Christmas Fantasy, Carol of the Snow, and All I Want for Christ-

mas is You. The OHS band will perform French Christmas Carol Fantasy, Tsch-esnokoff’s Salvation Is Created, and Christmas at the Movies.

The Choir will perform works from the popular a cappella group Pentatonix, such as White Winter Hymnal and Carol of the Bells.

To conclude the concert there will be a special combined performance with the OHS band and choir, and the OJHS choir performing a mash-up of some of the most well-known tunes from the hit Disney movie Frozen.

Data, Desserts & Decisions

Calling all PARENTS of sophomore students!

The Danville Area Community College Career and Employment Services office, along with Vermilion Vocational Education Delivery System and Vermilion Advantage are going to host the “Data, Desserts & Decisions” event for the parents/guardians of area high school sophomores. As a parent/guardian, you play a large role in your child’s career choice. At Data, Desserts & Decisions, information will be shared throughout the evening on all aspects of career planning, including non-traditional careers, dual enrollment, labor market trends, and growth opportunities in Vermilion County.

Invitations to the Data, Desserts & Decisions event will be sent directly to the parents/guardians of all sophomore students in the DACC college district. Please watch for this invitation to arrive at your home. Seating is limited so be sure to RSVP promptly. What could be better than picking up some new techniques to help your child find a successful career AND, delectable hors d’oeuvres & desserts? Nothing!

Each night the event will he held from 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm.

The Oakwood Area Food Pantry would like to encourage your family to start a new tradition this Thanksgiving! How many times have you thought about doing something charitable or active before overindulging in a holiday meal? Now is your chance to do just that by participating in the 2nd OAFP Turkey

Trot. It will be a 5K course…for those of you who are none runners that is 3.1 miles. Come dressed festive and get your trot on!

Trophies for the top 3 runners in the Adult & Child Divisions.

Special medals will be issued (i.e. costume winners, furthest traveled, etc.)
