PRESIDENT’S REPORT

It is with great pleasure that I present this report to members of asctaQLD activities

during the 2014/15 financial year. During 2014/15, the ability of asctaQLD coaches was

again recognised in their selection to lead and assist with Swimming Queensland and

Swimming Australia teams. It is due to the success of such coaches, that both

Queensland and Australia were well represented on both a National and International

platform.

Following Queensland’s success at the 2014 Australian Open Championships, 7

Queensland coaches were selected on the 2014 Commonwealth Games Team, these

were Michael Bohl, Matt Brown, Simon Cusack, Rob Hindmarsh, Chris Mooney, Vince

Raleigh and Richard Scarce. The Pan Pacific Championships also saw 7 Queensland

coaches including Matt Brown, Denis Cotterell, Simon Cusack, Barry Kime (OWS), Chris

Mooney, Vince Raleigh and Richard Scarce. The 2014 World Short Course

Championships included 4 Queensland coaches with Matt Brown, Michael Bohl, Richard

Scarce and Glenn Baker. Queensland coaches were also represented at the Para Pan

Pacific Championship team by Jan Cameron, Harley Connolly and Brendan Keogh as Head

Coach. An additional 6 coaches represented QLD on other National Teams throughout

the year. These coaches include Glenn Beringen, Richard Sleight, Chris Nesbit, Shaun

Crow, Damien Jones and Dean Boxall.

These coaches have proven that Queensland continues to produce world class coaches

and athletes. It is the efforts of these coaches that saw Queensland swimmers bring

home 61% of medals achieved at both the 2014 Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific

Championships.

Once again, Queensland maintained their track record of excellence at the 2015

Australian Age Championships, with 23 Queensland coaches producing gold medal

winners, earning Queensland the Premier State Award. AsctaQLD recognised the

outstanding achievement of these coaches by awarding them an asctaQLD Age

Champion shirt. Queensland once again took out the Male and Female Team awards at

Page 4: OARD OF DIRETORS AND LIFE MEM ERS - WordPress.com · OARD OF DIRETORS AND LIFE MEM ERS BOARD OF MANAGEMENT President Mr Shaun Crow (to 19.12.14), Mr Jay Johnston (19.12.14 to 12.5.15)

the 2015 Australian Open Championships along with 34 gold medals for individual

events.

Queensland maintained its perfect record at the 2014 State Teams Short Course

Championships, taking out the championships for the sixth consecutive year under the

following coaches: Shaun Crow (Head Coach), Mark Lorrimer (Male Head Coach), David

Proud (Female Head Coach), Col Robson, David Lush, Josh Smith, Michelle Morris,

Richard Sleight, Sean Eels, Tsuyoshi Kimura.

Throughout the year, AsctaQLD continued to support professional development through

our asctaQLD scholarship program. The recipients of these scholarships were Humberto

Angerami, Mary McDermott, Hayley Lock and Lesa Hansen.

This year, the annual asctaQLD Coaches Christmas Lunch was again held on the last day of

the Queensland Championships at the Sleeman Sports Complex. During the lunch the

2013/14 Coaching Awards were presented, recognising the success of Queensland coaches

and celebrating their outstanding achievements. I’d also like to take this opportunity to

thank Swimming Queensland and asctaQLD sponsor Vorgee for once again generously

supporting this function. At the conclusion of the 2014/15 financial year the Association

retained a surplus of $37,577.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have contributed to the success of

asctaQLD in offering their support throughout the year. I would also like to make note of

the continuation of sponsorship from Vorgee along with the support provided from the

Queensland Academy of Sport and Swimming Queensland, whose commitment and

support vitally contribute to the success and development of our Queensland coaches.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2015

Note 1: Summary of Significant Accounting Policies

The financial statements are special purpose financial statements prepared in order to

satisfy the financial reporting requirements of the Associations Incorporations Act (QLD)

1981. The Committee has determined that the Association is not a reporting entity.

The financial statements have been prepared on an accruals basis and are based on

historic costs and do not take into account changing money values or, except where

specifically stated, current valuations of non-current assets. These financial statements

do not comply with Australian Accounting Standards.

The following significant accounting policies, which are consistent with the previous

period unless otherwise stated, have been adopted in the preparation of this financial

report.

Revenue and Other Income

Revenue is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable after

taking into account any trade discounts and volume rebates allowed.

Donations, sponsorships, and conference revenue represent income in relation to the

Association’s conferences held during the financial year, and amounts received/incurred

prior to balance date relating to forthcoming conferences.

Interest revenue is recognised using the effective interest method.

Grant and donation income is recognised when the entity obtains control over the funds,

which is generally at the time of receipt.

If conditions are attached to the grant that must be satisfied before the association is

eligible to receive the contribution, recognition of the grant as revenue will be deferred

until those conditions are satisfied.

All revenue is stated net of the amount of goods and services tax.

Cash and Cash Equivalents

Cash on hand includes cash on hand, deposits held at call with banks, and other short-

term highly liquid investments with original maturities of three months or less.

QUEENSLAND BRANCH INC.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2015

Note 1: Summary of Significant Accounting Policies (c’ont)

Accounts Receivable and Other Debtors

Accounts receivable and other debtors include amounts due from members as well as

amounts receivable from donors. Receivables expected to be collected within 12 months

of the end of the reporting period are classified as current assets. All other receivables

are classified as non-current assets.

Accounts Payable and Other Payables

Accounts payable and other payables represent the liability outstanding at the end of the

reporting period for goods and services received by the association during the reporting

period that remain unpaid. The balance is recognised as a current liability with the

amounts normally paid within 30 days of recognition of the liability.

Taxation and GST

The Committee are of the opinion that Australian Swimming Coaches & Teachers

Association Queensland Inc. does not have an income tax liability due to the application

of the principle of mutuality to the revenue and expenses of the Association. The

principle of mutuality is a common law principle arising from the premise that

individuals cannot profit from themselves. Accordingly, receipts from members are

deemed to be mutual income and not subject to income tax, and expenses in connection

with mutual activities are therefore not deductible for taxation purposes. All other

receipts and payments are classified in accordance with taxation legislation.

Revenues, expenses and assets are recognised net of the amount of GST, except where

the amount of GST incurred is not recoverable from the Australian Tax Office (ATO).

Receivables and payables are stated inclusive of the amount of GST receivable or

payable. The net amount of GST recoverable from, or payable to, the ATO is included

respectively as a receivable or payable in the Assets and Liabilities Statement.

The Association is required to report GST annually to the ATO.

Mortgages, charges and securities

There are no mortgages, charges or securities against the property of the Association.

Committee’s Responsibility for the Financial Report

The Committee of the Australian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association Queensland

Branch Inc is responsible for the preparation of the financial report, and has determined that

the basis of preparation described in Note 1 is appropriate to meet the requirements of the

Associations Incorporation Act (Qld) 1981 and is appropriate to meet the needs of the

members. The Committee’s responsibility also includes such internal control as the

Committee determines is necessary to enable the preparation of a financial report that is free

from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error.

Auditor’s Responsibility

Our responsibility is to express an opinion on the financial report based on our audit. We have

conducted our audit in accordance with Australian Auditing Standards. Those standards

require that we comply with relevant ethical requirements relating to audit engagements and

plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance whether the financial report is free

from material misstatement.

An audit involves performing procedures to obtain audit evidence about the amounts and

disclosures in the financial report. The procedures selected depend on the auditor’s judgment,

including the assessment of the risks of material misstatement of the financial report, whether

due to fraud or error. In making those risk assessments, the auditor considers internal control

relevant to the association’s preparation and fair presentation of the financial report in order

to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of

expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the association’s internal control. An audit also

includes evaluating the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of

accounting estimates made by the directors, as well as evaluating the overall presentation of

the financial report.
