On behalf of the Organization of Arab Students and theMuslim Student Association, we would like to thank you for takingthe time to support our event, and most importantly, showing supportfor Gaza. We have put together a program that will not only providean opportunity to donate, but also to enlighten you about the realitiesof Palestine.

It is amazing to see all the hardships the Palestinians have endured and the strength they have within them to overcome thesehardships. With the help of everyone in this room we can help themto prevail in a situation that deems them helpless. While many of usgo about our daily lives, the Palestinian people are suffering; justtrying to survive to see tomorrow. No one should have to experiencesuch a harsh environment, especially innocent children. We havecome together today to provide a means to help those in any way

we can. It is not only about aid nancially, but also promotingawareness. People need to see through the eyes of every Palestinianin Gaza.

Our Guest speaker, Laila El-Haddad has come to share herexperiences not only a mother, a journalist, and a Muslim, but also as an occupied Palestianan. Doctor Ismail Mehr is also going toshare what he encountered during the American Medical Mission toGaza.

All of tonights proceeds will be donated to the PalestinianChildrens Relief Fund (P.C.R.F.). Their main objective is to locate,in the U.S., free medical care for children who cannot be adequatelytreated in the Middle East. Since 1991, over 450 children have beenor currently are being treated through the aid of the P.C.R.F.

Please enjoy the event and remember that we need to help inorder to create a change.

    Thank you,Tamera Akarah

    Laila El-Haddadis a

Palestinian journalist and writer basedbetween Gaza and the United States, who writes principally for the al-JazeeraEnglish website and the GuardianUnlimited. She was educated in Bahrainand the United States. She earned herB.A. from Duke University and her

A running theme in El-Haddads writing is the personalization of the situation of Gazans and Palestinians by writing with humorand introspective humanity about her domestic life and those of other Gazans. By revealing Palestinians neither as terrorists nor ascurrency in a worldwide market of political opposition to westerndominance, but as sympathetic people capable of wit and humoramid violence and the occupation of their territory. El-Haddadis married with one son, Yousuf, and one daughter, Noor. Herhusband is a physician with Palestinian refugee status.

Laila speaks about her experiences in dealing with thecurrent situation in Palestine and how it has affected her and herfamily.
