GENERAL INFORMATIONLocation Summer School 2021 for grade 9 – grade 12 will take place

at Oconomowoc High School.

Important Dates • April 6 – Registration opens at 6:00 a.m.

Registration for Courses (OASD Students) • Registration begins at 6:00 a.m. on April 6, 2021, and

ends at midnight on April 18.

Registration for Courses (Non-OASD Students) • Registration begins at 6:00 a.m. on April 6, 2021, and

• Private, Parochial, and non-OASD families need to

complete the “Non-OASD and Parochial/Private

School Student Application Form” at

www.oasd.org/SummerSchool.

Summer School registration, even if your child has

attended OASD Summer School before.

Waiting List New This Year: Due to the high demand for Summer

School courses, there will be a waiting list for elementary

and intermediate courses that are full. Visit

www.oasd.org/SummerSchool and complete the online

form if you want to be added to the waiting list for a

Summer School course. Please understand that

completing the waiting list form does not guarantee

entrance to the course.

Payment (OASD Resident) This payment information pertains to students with

primary residence within the OASD boundary, regardless

of the school (OASD, private, parochial) they attend:

• Payment by credit or debit card is required at the

time of registration.

• Summer School courses will be deleted if the course

fees have not been paid within 24-hours of the

registration.

Payment (Non-OASD Resident) This payment information pertains to students with

primary residence outside the OASD boundary,

regardless of the school they attend:

• Payment by credit or debit card is required at the

time of registration.

• Non-OASD residents will be charged $50.00 per

course, in addition to the course fees listed within

the brochure.

• Summer School courses will be deleted if the course

fees have not been paid within 24-hours of the

registration.

Repeating Courses Many courses are offered multiple terms or times. In

these situations, the programming and projects are the

same each term or time the course is offered. Families

who register a child for the same course twice will

receive the same materials twice and be charged the

course fee twice.

2021 Summer School Waiver Families will be required to complete an online 2021

Summer School Waiver form during the Summer School

registration process. This waiver form must be complete

before a student can attend Summer School.

Free/Reduced Lunch Program If your student is currently using the Free or Reduced

Lunch Program, you may qualify for the math and/or

literacy-focused courses to be free of charge. Courses

that are listed as enrichment only will not have reduced

fees and must be paid in full.

COVID-19 Mitigation Measures The OASD will continue to track COVID-19 cases among

students and staff during Summer School and follow the

Waukesha County Health Department COVID-19

quarantine guidelines. Families will receive additional

information about COVID-19 mitigation measures and

expectations before the first day of Summer School.

Attendance & Illness Guidelines Students are expected to attend Summer School each

day unless they are ill. Students and staff who are ill

must stay home to prevent the unintentional spread of

COVID-19 in our schools. Families are expected to call

the Summer School attendance line to report an absence

due to vacation or illness and provide information on the

illness and symptoms.

Transportation No transportation is provided for Summer School, and no

shuttle bus service is provided between Summer School

sites.

Canceled Courses Summer School courses may be canceled due to low

enrollment. If a Summer School course needs to be

canceled, the Summer School office will contact

everyone who has registered for that course and assist

with registering for other courses or provide a refund.

Dress Code The OASD dress code policy applies to Summer School.

Students may wear casual clothing that is neat, clean,

and appropriate for school. No hats are allowed in class,

and students must wear appropriate shoes.

CAREER READY SUMMER COURSES

CAREER INTERNSHIP – FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 11TH – 12TH GRADE This class serves as a work experience for students. Students use their job as a chance to learn basic workplace skills.

Students will meet minimally for this class. Instead, students will be released to work a job. Students will be required to

complete out-of-classroom activities that demonstrate their knowledge and growth. For more information or to enroll

PREREQUISITES: Career Portfolio needed to enroll, MUST be enrolled in Career Internship for the upcoming academic

year.

STRUCTURE: Students will need to work a minimum of 90 hours over the summer. Hours and weekly reflections must

be submitted weekly along with an evaluation at the end of the summer.

POTENTIAL CREDITS AVAILABLE: 0.5 credit

CAREER PORTFOLIO – FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 11TH – 12TH GRADE This class aims to prepare all students for the world beyond the classroom. Students will develop a digital portfolio,

concentrating on work they have completed in class about career paths they are interested in. This class will focus on

curriculum-based career awareness, exploration, planning, and preparation leading to a realistic individualized career

plan. The portfolio may include, but is not limited to, self-analysis and profile, content artifacts, resume, shadow and

work experiences, letter of recommendation, career plan, and self-reflection.

CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (CNA) – FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 11TH – 12TH GRADE Learn fundamental nursing assistant skills through lectures, demonstrations, and skills practice in this 120-hour program.

After mastering these skills, students will complete training in a nursing home or hospital setting under the supervision

of an instructor. After completion, the student will be ready to take the state test, which will place them on the nurse

aid registry. Specific requirements must be met to be considered for this course, including the CNA application

form. For more information or to enroll in this course, contact Kyla Stefan, School to Career Coordinator

PREREQUISITES: Students must be age 16 by the first day of class (state law requirement) and must be able to commit

to every single class (missing even an hour will not be acceptable). Students must also attend the CNA informational

meeting at WCTC in March 2021 to be considered for this opportunity.

SUPERVISED AGRICULTURAL EXPERIENCE – FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 9TH – 12TH GRADE Students design individualized programs to gain “hands-on” experiences and develop skills in agricultural career areas

that interest them. Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE) can include exploratory, research, entrepreneurship,

and/or placement programs. Improvement and supplementary activities will be included to develop proficiency skill

levels in the agricultural career areas students choose. Class activities will include animal science, school farm,

greenhouse, tractor restoration, aquaculture, and nature area project development. Project time will be scheduled

weekly, and incremental credit will be earned based on project completion and standard-based assessments. The

instructor’s consent is needed to register. Students must meet with the instructor before the end of the school year to

coordinate projects. Students can take SAE II for a different level or area of study.

POTENTIAL CREDITS AVAILABLE: 0.25-.50 credits per summer; a student may earn up to 2 credits total for SAE

YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP – FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 11TH – 12TH GRADE The Department of Workforce Development’s Youth Apprenticeship Program offers students a chance to earn while

they learn. The program is targeted at high-demand workforce areas specific to the State of Wisconsin. Students may

participate in a one- or two-year program consisting of 450 hours of hands-on learning per year. Students must also be

enrolled in related technical instruction in the program area of interest. Upon completing the program, students earn a

certificate from the Department of Workforce Development as a level 1 or level 2 Youth Apprenticeship.

In some cases, Youth Apprenticeship hours transfer to Adult Apprenticeship. This program offers students a chance to

test out a potential career, learn specific skills related to that career, and strengthen their resume and

will be an optional ACT prep component available for incoming seniors who are thinking about retaking the ACT to

increase their score.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) SUMMER ACADEMY FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 11TH – 12TH GRADE This course is highly recommended for any OHS junior pursuing an IB Diploma Programme or IB Career-Related

Programme or any OHS junior or senior taking two or more IB courses. Students will be introduced to the IB Learner

Profile and the related strategies, and the tools necessary to be successful in IB courses. This course will address both

academic and life-readiness skills.

LIFE READY SUMMER COURSES

FRESHMAN EXPERIENCE – FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 9TH GRADE The Freshmen Experience is designed to help you engage with other students and develop new skills to make you

successful at OHS and after high school. You will participate in various activities, like hands-on projects, classroom

discussions, OHS and East Campus tours, interpersonal skill building, class readings, group projects, guest speakers, and

local tours. We have high expectations for all of you, but more importantly, you should have high expectations for

yourself! This class is your first step in becoming a successful member of the OHS community. It will focus on the

academic, social, and personal development of every student with topics like:

• Personal: self-respect, identity, your parent’s role in your high school journey

• Intellectual: study skills, test-taking tips, academics, why grades matter, how the teenage brain works

• Social and Interpersonal: healthy dating relationships, identity vs. image, social media, friendships vs. frenemies,

social cliques, and popularity

• Emotional: mindfulness, mood and behavior, self-esteem, mental health, mentors, emotional wellness

• Self-Reflection: being the best version of yourself, resilience, grit, self-worth, character, and competence

• Physical: exercise, nutrition, sleep habits, risky vs. responsible choices

• Your Future: goal setting, ACP development, how to be college, career, and life ready

HEALTH – FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 10TH – 12TH GRADE This fully online course addresses all essential life skills necessary to function successfully in society. Units such as

nutrition, substance abuse, coping with stress, and sexual abstinence are explored through video, online media, and

discussions. A series of signposts guide you through the course as they provide information, direction, and

encouragement. Organizational skills, self-directed learning, the ability to complete tasks, and learning online are

required for success in this class.

This course is online except for the face-to-face instruction for the CPR portion on June 28 or June 30 at 10:35-11:35

a.m. on both days. This course does NOT provide a CPR certification, only a CPR training. By selecting this course

during the summer, you could have greater flexibility within your academic year schedule.

ATTENDANCE: Students are required to attend class online every day. You must also attend in person one of the CPR

dates to receive credit for the training.

ASSESSMENT AND GRADING: Students will be held to the same grading and assessment practices utilized during the

school year, as outlined through the OHS Student Handbook. All work should be completed for final evaluation by July

30, 2021.

POTENTIAL CREDITS AVAILABLE: 0.5 credit

COURSE ORIENTATION: A mandatory orientation will be scheduled during Pride in May 2021. Students who have

O-POWER: COED FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 9TH – 12TH GRADE

SIX-WEEK COURSE BEGINNING ON JUNE 14 This course allows students to train with coaches from multiple sports in a highly structured and safe environment. Our

training program aims to maximize the athletic abilities of our athletes while minimizing injuries by emphasizing correct

movement patterns with appropriate training loads. Throughout the week, athletes will train in multiple athletic areas:

speed, strength, power, plyometrics, agility, core strength, mobility, and flexibility. This is a coed course for students

entering grades 9-12.

TRAINING STRUCTURE

• The course is structured so that athletes train in cohorts of 30 athletes maximum.

• The athletes move through three 30-minute stations: Turf, PDC, and Upper Gym.

• The cohort model allows athletes to receive direct instruction on movement patterns while also maximizing

their 90-minutes of training and for coaches to modify the training to fit each athlete’s training experience and

needs.

O-Power is an enrichment program and does not provide a literacy or math focus.

PERSONAL FITNESS – FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 10TH – 12TH GRADE This blended course offers students time and pacing flexibility while improving their fitness level. The self-designed,

guided fitness activities are recorded in student logs with parent verification. Participants self-assess flexibility, muscular

strength, endurance, cardiovascular health, and body composition. Other topics covered are managing stress, safety and

injury prevention, goal setting, nutrition, and the “FIT” principle of training. Time spent working on increasing levels of

physical activity, research, and presentation. Strong organizational skills, motivation, and the ability to perform self-

directed activities are required for success.

This course is offered in a blended environment, requiring face-to-face instruction and online tasks. By selecting this

course during the summer, you could have greater flexibility within your academic year schedule.

ATTENDANCE: Students will be required to attend class in-person each day at the schedule time. Additional online work

will also be assigned by the teacher.

ASSESSMENT AND GRADING: Students will be held to the same grading and assessment practices utilized during the

school year, as outlined through the OHS Student Handbook. All work should be completed for final evaluation by July

30, 2021.

PERSONAL FINANCE – FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 10TH – 12TH GRADE Personal Finance is an OHS Graduation Requirement. This course introduces personal financial planning discipline

through a variety of units and topics including banking, types of credit, managing credit, insurance, investing, and

budgeting. Summative assessments occur in the form of both exams and projects.

This course is offered in a blended environment, requiring face-to-face instruction and online tasks. By selecting to

complete this course during the summer, you could have greater flexibility within your academic year schedule. This

course is a great option for students who want to leave room in their schedule to be involved in music, IB, AP, PLTW,

Building Trades, or any of our other programs that fill up quickly and/or can be tricky to schedule.

ATTENDANCE: Students will be required to attend class in-person each day at the schedule time. Additional online work

will also be assigned by the teacher.

ASSESSMENT AND GRADING: Students will be held to the same grading and assessment practices utilized during the

school year, as outlined through the OHS Student Handbook. All work should be completed for final evaluation by July

30, 2021.

POTENTIAL CREDITS AVAILABLE: 0.5 credit

COURSE ORIENTATION: Students will be introduced to the course syllabus, course schedule, and expectations on the

first day of class.

PERFORMANCE ARTS SUMMER CAMPS

JAZZ BAND – FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 7TH – 9TH GRADE All students entering grades 7, 8, and 9 are invited to join us for Jazz Band! This course is available for upper-level

intermediate school students and incoming OHS freshmen and will take place at Nature Hill Intermediate School. We

will work on jazz stylings, improvisation and perform a concert on the last day of class. Students will need their

instruments.

OHS MARCHING BAND CAMP – FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 9TH – 12TH GRADES OHS Marching Band Camp is designed to prepare our students for successful marching performances. Students will build

their playing and marching skills while making new connections with other students. This camp can also help incoming

Freshmen transition to high school because they can meet other students before the school year starts. OHS Marching

Band Camp prepares students for a positive and successful marching performance on the final day of camp when

parents are invited to attend the annual preview of our OASD homecoming show.

OHS MARCHING BAND LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 10TH – 12TH GRADES Students in the Leadership Workshop will assist with Marching Band Camp preparation and setup and have leadership

roles during camp. Students will be selected and registered by OHS staff, and families do not need to register their

student online.

OHS FALL MUSICAL PIT ORCHESTRA CAMP FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 9TH – 12TH GRADES This mini-camp is for OHS instrumental music students interested in performing in the orchestra for the OHS fall musical.

Together, we will preview and explore the entire musical score by playing through the whole show even before the

auditions occur. This camp is a great way to enjoy music, make new friends, and familiarize yourself with the repertoire

used during the audition process. All students interested in performing with the OHS Pit Orchestra should consider this

2-day mini-camp!

OHS FALL MUSICAL CAMP – FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 9TH – 12TH GRADE The OHS Fall Musical Camp is designed to prepare students for a successful audition for the 2020 fall musical and

beyond. Students will become familiar with the selected show and build skills around musical theater vocal

performance, dance, and acting while making new connections with teachers/directors and students in

the OHS Performing Arts Program. Students will be exposed to vocal music, choreography in the appropriate style, and

scene work from the chosen show. This is an awesome opportunity to work with our OHS Players directors before the

school year begins.

CREDIT RECOVERY COURSE DESCRIPTIONSOHS ELEVATE – CREDIT RECOVERY FOUNDATIONAL COURSES FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 10TH GRADE Current OHS Freshman who will enter 10th grade in 2020-21 and who have a failing grade in one of the courses listed

below, may be eligible to recover credits during the summer. These courses are structured in a blended format, where

students are required to attend the face to face classes while also completing online tasks or small group study sessions

in order to remediate credit. Student attendance is an essential component of these courses.

Families with students who are eligible for this course will receive information by email from their OHS Counselor. They

will be asked to complete and return a credit recovery form before the end of the school year, to register for their

course(s). Any requests for more than one course must be discussed at their counselor meeting. Registration will be

completed by OHS staff and families do not need to register online.

OHS ELEVATE COURSES: Biology | English 9 | Algebra 1 | Humanities 9

OHS ODYSSEYWARE – CREDIT RECOVERY COURSE FOR STUDENTS ENTERING 10TH – 12TH GRADE Students who are seeking to recover a credit from a class they failed during the school year may enroll in credit

recovery. All students enrolled in credit recovery will be notified by their OHS Counselor and need to complete the

credit recovery form before the end of the school year. Student credit recovery agreements will be completed prior to

the summer term (beginning June 21) so that students understand the expectations and accountability measures.

This credit recovery course will be taught through the standards-based online program Odysseyware or through a

standards-based blended learning environment. Upon completing the course, students may replace any failure earned

from the current school year with a letter grade. In-person student attendance is an essential component of these

courses.
