Tricky Words Practise your tricky words by playing a game you already know or you could play a game of “Scratch that Tricky Word”. Write your tricky words in your homework book lots of times. Have a parent call out one of your tricky words at random. See if you can scratch out (cross out) the word that has been said. PRIORITY TASK PBL Design Your Own Tourist Attraction! This Term we have been travelling around Australia with the book “Are We There Yet”. We have been to so many different places and learned so many things about the amazing places to see in our beautiful country. Over the next couple of weeks, we are going to be creating our very own tourist attraction for people to visit!! Think about all of the places we visited in the book like the Great Australian Bight, Murphy’s Haystacks, Rottnest Island, Uluru, Katherine Gorge, the Three Sisters and Sydney Harbour. Start to think about an attraction you would like to add to Australia’s “must see” list for tourists. Perhaps you will create a wave pool, a theme park or an amazing animal experience. Make a list of possible ideas and record them in your homework book! Watch the video of Farmer Bruce to help you! Reading (2 options) 1. Access Wushka readers on https://wushka.com.au/ Your individual password has been sent to you on Class Dojo. Read one decodable and one levelled reader. 2. Sounds and Words book. Shared Reading Listen as Miss Downs Tuck reads the story “Pirates Love Underpants”

Public Speaking This week we are continuing the Public Speaking component to our morning literacy sessions. As mentioned previously, this session is similar to our daily “news” routine. We will be working on developing another speech, to present once more on Friday. Don’t forget to refer to the great tips provided with last week's outline. Monday’s Task Today you need to choose a new topic. Try to select a topic that expresses a point of view. Your speech needs to be a persuasive argument. So you need to make the people listening (audience) understand and be convinced to agree with you. You can choose your own topic… if you can’t think of something you want to talk about you could look at these topics. Here are some ideas: ● All kids should get pocket money ● The school day should be shorter ● Kids should be allowed to drive a car ● It is important to do your homework

Geography Are we there yet?

This week the family are travelling from Queensland down into New South Wales. Listen to Mrs. Boutsikakis read the next part of the adventure.

Sheep Shearing in Queensland

The family visited their friend’s on a sheep farm. Sheep are woolly animals. Once a year they need to have the wool removed so that they do not get too big, hot or heavy. When the wool is cut off the sheep this is called shearing. Big scissor-like shears can be used to cut away the wool but today, most shearers use electric shears instead because they are faster and easier to cut with. Let’s learn about shearing and how wool is used to make clothes. Watch this clip.

https://video.link/w/5PK4c

Now let’s meet a boy called Charlie who just loves to shear! Watch this clip. https://video.link/w/HMK4c

What Did You Learn?

● Why do sheep need to have their wool cut off? ● What is it called when you cut the wool off the sheep? ● What can the wool be used for? ● Why do you think shearers hold the sheep between their legs? ● Do you think shearing would be easy or hard?

Charlie likes to practice shearing on his toys. Choose one of your big furry or fluffy toys and pretend you are shearing it. Can you hold it between your legs and move the pretend shears in long straight lines?

Send your teacher a photo or video of you shearing through your portfolio tab on Class Dojo.

Optional Extra - Fishing in Forster

The family travels to a place called Forster. It has beaches and rivers all around. People like to spend time in the beautiful water. Some people enjoy fishing here. Have you ever been fishing?

Let’s watch this clip to learn about fishing. https://video.link/w/ObL4c

Fishing is something that kids can enjoy too. But remember we always let the little fish go. We put them back in the water so they can grow bigger and lay eggs to make more fish. Watch this cute clip of a very excited 3 year old boy on the beach catching a great big fish!

Public Speaking Just like last week, put together an introduction and an ending for your speech today. Beginning - There are three ways to begin a speech:

You can use a story eg: “I really love helping my family at home by doing chores for pocket money” You can use a statement eg: “All kids should get pocket money”. Or you can use a question eg: “Did you get pocket money when you were young?”

Remember that a... ● Story – must be relevant to the speech as a whole ● Statement – should be interesting and thought provoking ● Question – must be answered at some point in the speech

And of course, you must remember that a speaker should never start a speech by introducing themselves or their topic e.g. ‘I’m Joe Bloggs and today I’m going to talk about …’

Conclusion This is the exciting climax of the speech. The conclusion should be clear, strong and concise and linked to the introduction. It should sum up the speech’s subject and be a final persuasive statement. The three ways to end a speech are the same as the three ways to begin a speech. That is with a story, statement or question.

Here is an example: Topic- All kids should get pocket money Beginning- I love helping my family around the house! I am responsible for making my bed, taking the bins out and feeding the dog! Conclusion- So now you know why all kids should get pocket money.

WELLBEING Wednesday

It is so important to take care of your mental, physical and spiritual health, particularly in these uncertain times. So we have decided to incorporate ‘Wellbeing Wednesday’’ into our Home Learning Plan. This is a time where you might like to finish your learning day early, around 1.00pm, and do something that makes you happy. This might include heading to the park for a scooter ride, going outside to play in the sunshine, accessing some Cosmic Yoga videos online or helping cook something yummy for your family to enjoy. Follow the link below for some ideas you might be able to do to support your mental, physical, spiritual, emotion and social wellbeing.

Let’s Get Crafty Use the template provided (Activity R) to make a sheep. Cut out each piece and glue them together. Decorate your sheep by gluing it onto a background. Can you hide some “sh” words in the picture? Have someone see if they hunt and find them all! Tricky Words Practise your tricky words by playing one of the games you already know or you could play a game of “Sight Word Smash Up”. Write all of your tricky words on pieces of paper and spread them out on the floor around you. You might like to play this game outside. Parents call out a word at random. Children see if you can throw a bean bag or a soft toy at the correct tricky word.

Page 18: Oatley Public School Remote Learning Kindergarten

If practising all of the tricky words is too challenging just focus on the 3 or 4 that your child needs the most help with. Reading (3 options) 1. Access Wushka readers on https://wushka.com.au/ Your individual password has been sent to you on Class Dojo. Read one decodable and one levelled reader.

2. Sounds and Words book. Use your own printed copies of the book (Activity S) to follow along with Mrs Boutsikakis on the video. 3. Read the decodable ‘Hot Cross Buns’ with Mrs Lee Public Speaking Palm cards day! Today you are going to make your palm cards to help you remember your speeches. Palm cards should just be used as prompts or reminders - you should not read your whole speech from your palm cards. Remember cardboard cards are much better than pieces of paper. Clues: You can write short sentences on your palm cards, key words or even draw pictures to help you remember what to say! Practise reading your speech using eye contact, having a confident, still stance, speaking with a loud, clear voice and using gestures and body language to make your presentation more interesting and engaging for the audience. Ask someone to film you presenting your speech so you can watch it and see how you look! Perhaps make a star and a wish for yourself. A star- something you are a superstar at, and a wish- something you wish you could improve in.
