    The degree to which an individualkeep views about himself that

    can be positive and negative.

    There are two components:

    Self esteem: the degree to

    which person likes and dislikeshimself.

    Internals: People who believethat they are masters of theirown fate that is positive coreself-evaluation.Externals: Individuals whobelieve that what happens tothem is controlled by outsideforces such as luck or chancei.e. negative self core-

    evaluation.

    As an example, a student may believesthat his or her homework, assignmentand test result will come out in a bad or

    good luck. He may think that theteacher will give him an A but it will benot necessity by his own opportunities

    at what he is really doing or the thingthat he has done.

    Named after NiccoloMachiavelli, who wrote inthe sixteenth century onhow to gain and use power.

    Machiavellianism isprimarily the term that isuse to describe a person'stendency to deceive andmanipulate others forpersonal gain.

    There is element of gainand use of authority.

    It refers to an individuals ability to adjusthis or her behavior to external, situationalfactors.

    High Self-Monitoring:

    Individuals high in self-monitoring showconsiderable adaptability.They are highly sensitive to external cues,They can behave differently in different

    situations,they are capable of presenting strikingcontradictions between their publicpersona and their private self.

    Low Self-Monitoring:

    Low self-monitors cannot disguisethemselves in different way.

    They also value honesty about innerfeelings rather than acted-out emotions forthe benefit of social interaction.

    They tend to display their true dispositionsand attitudes in every situation resulting ina high behavioral consistency between whothey are and what they do .

    Outcomes of High Self-monitoringHigh self-monitor is capable of putting ondifferent faces for different audiences.

    High self-monitors tend to pay closerattention to the behavior of others.

    High self-monitoring managers tend to bemore mobile in their careers and receive

    more promotions.

    A Narcissistic PersonThe name "narcissism" is derived fromGreek mythology. Narcissus was ahandsome Greek youth who, had never seen

    his reflection, but because of a prediction byan Oracle, looked in a pool of water and sawhis reflection for the first time. it was then hesaw his reflection for the first time, not

    knowing any better he started talking to it. hefell in love with his own reflection in a pool,not realizing it was merely an image, and hewasted away to death, not being able to leavethe beauty of his own reflection
