A heartfelt thank you to everyone. e Family of Herman Snyder Florence “Flo” V. Kaufman, 91 of Sterling, was born Jan. 10, 1922 in Sterling and died Wed., Feb. 13, 2013 of natural causes in Sterling. Funeral services were held Tues., Feb. 19, 2013 at the Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Wendy Kalan officiating. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery. Memorials in Mrs. Kaufman’s honor may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church, 1404 S. 9 th Ave., Sterling, CO 80751. Florence was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Sterling, to George and Marie (Roth) Walker. She attended Sterling schools, graduating from Sterling High School in 1940. On April 26, 1942, Florence married Herbert Kaufman in Sterling. After Herbert’s discharge in 1945 from the U.S. Army, they moved to a farm in Gering, Neb., returning to the Iliff/Proctor area with their children in 1959, where they farmed until retiring in October 1995, at which time they moved to Sterling. Florence was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, where she volunteered for various church functions. She devoted her life to being a homemaker and served as a bailiff for the Logan County Court System. Florence loved visiting with people, was an avid sports fan, loved playing cards with her family and friends and also enjoyed pottery, crafts, crocheting, embroidering and quilting. Her greatest love was the times she shared with her husband of 58 years, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many rela- tives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert in 2000; infant son Darrell in 1945; her Harold William Blecha, 84 of Julesburg, was born Aug. 23, 1928 in Pickrell, Neb., and died suddenly on Fri., Feb. 15, 2013 in Sidney, Neb. Funeral services will be at the Julesburg United Methodist Church on Wed., Feb. 20, 2013 (today) with Pastor Alice Koech presiding. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Julesburg. Memorials in Mr. Blecha’s honor may be made to the Julesburg United Methodist Church, the Mennonite Church of Julesburg or to the charity of the donor’s choice c/o Austin-Tennant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 24, Julesburg, CO 80737. Harold was born to Victor and Eva Blecha. He graduated from Beatrice High School in 1946 and married LaVerne Nagel of Scottsbluff, Neb., on April 9, 1950. His interest in electronics led him to complete a correspondence course from the International Television Technology School in Chicago, Ill. While living in Lincoln, Neb., Harold worked for Cushman Motors, Lincoln Telegraph and Telephone and Western Electric. Moving on to Holdredge and then Gothenburg, Neb., he was employed by KK Appliance Co. The family moved then to Julesburg in 1963 where Harold was employed by Virgil Harshman. In 1965 he opened Harold’s Radio & TV and in the mid 70’s a Radio Shack franchise was added. Both sons, Russ and Jerry, worked in the business. Harold sold Harold’s Radio & TV in 1983 and went to work for Television Technology of Broomfield until retirement in 1992. Mr. Blecha was active in the community his entire life. He was a current member of Holyoke Lodge #81, Past Master of Logan Lodge #70, Julesburg 1969, ‘83, ‘89, life member - 32° Scottish Rite Mason, Colorado York Rite Mason and Sterling Commandery #35 Knight Templar. He was also a life member of Ogallala Elks Lodge #1760, Past President of Julesburg Chamber of Commerce, Past President of Fort Sedgwick Historical Society and a Past President of the Lions Club. Harold was also a member of the Julesburg United Methodist Church where he served on several boards and committees throughout his life. With wife LaVerne, he volunteered at the Colorado Welcome Center and was currently a member of the Northview Apartment Board. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Helen Meints, and son, Russell. Mr. Blecha is survived by his wife, LaVerne; son Jerry and wife Lisa of Ft. Morgan; daughter Lorinda O’Hara and husband Frank of Denver; sister Kathryn Werger of Lincoln, Neb.; brother Richard and wife Gayle of Lincoln; brother-in-law Arnold Meints of Cortland, Neb.; six grandchildren including Ben Blecha and wife Tiffany of Sterling, and six great grandchildren. The library is looking for quilters of all skill levels and those who own quilts to display their quilts during the show. Library Director Sandy VanDusen said, "You need not have made the quilt yourself in order to put it in our display. The item does not have to be a quilt but can be a quilted table runner or other item." Entry forms are available to pick up now at the library or email chambers@ sterlingcolo.com. Quilts must be brought to the library between now and Sun., Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. Quilts will be on display March 1-31. There will be a prize given for the People’s Choice Award. Florence “Flo” V. Kaufman, 91 of Sterling, was born Jan. 10, 1922 in Sterling and died Wed., Feb. 13, 2013 of natural causes in Sterling.
