Professor Shum played a key role in securing
Singapore as the host of the 2017 Pacific Rim
biennial Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics
(CLEO) and the Opto Electronics and Laser
Engineering Conference (OECC). He has bidded for
CLEO twice in the past. CLEO is the largest
conference of its kind in the Asia Pacific region. In
2013, the event combined with OECC in Kyoto and
attracted 1,500 delegates and 37 exhibitors over a
four-day period.
Professor Shum is currently lobbying for the 2017
Asia Communications and Photonics (ACP)
Conference to co-locate with CLEO and OECC in
Singapore.

Objective: To grow the water industry and develop Singap[ore’swater technologies.
Organized by the Singapore Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, and
PUB which is Singapore's National Water Agency.
First event = 2008. Held in conjunction with the World Cities Summit and the East Asia
Summit Conference on Liveable Cities. 8,500 pax from 79 countries.
2010 = 14,000 pax from 85 countries.
Many projects were awarded, tender investments poured into Singapore and R&D
MOUs signed.
2012 = Add 2 new events CleanEnviro Summit and WasteMET Asia.
Singapore International Water Week 2014 also included select special program events
such as the WCS Mayors Forum, the Asia Pacific Infrastructure Ministers Meeting, the
India Business Forum, the China Business Forum, Public Private Partnership Business
Forum, Desalination/Water ReUse Business Forum, Southeast Asia Business Forum,
Middle East/North Africa Business Forum, Water Leaders Dialogue, Water Leaders
Roundtable, Industrial Water Solutions Forum, and select site visits.
