Prof. Sohan P. Modak,

D.Sc. Prof. Sohan is an embryologist and evolutionary

bioinformatician. He obtained his doctorate from the University of

Geneva and did post-doctoral work at Oak Ridge National Laboratory

and University of Kentucky, Lexington (USA). He served as staff

scientist at the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research

(1970-77), Visiting Professor at the Ohio State University and

Scientist-Engineer at French Centre for Nuclear Energy Grenoble

(1978-79). In 1979, he joined the University of Poona as Professor. He

founded the Biotechnology Training Programme, NCCS,

Bioinformatics-DIS. He was Professor Emeritus at the Karnataka

University, Dharwad (2001-03) and G.N. Ramachandran Sr. Res.

Fellow at the IGIB Delhi (2005-2008). He published research in

Developmental Neurobiology, Molecular Biology and Genomics. He

now mentors studies on Molecular Evolution. After his retirement as a

head of the Department Of Zoology from University of Pune, where

he studied embryology and also conceived and developed Department

of Biotechnology (UoP) and National Facility for Animal Tissue and

Cell Culture (NFATCC which later became NCCS, Pune, he was

appointed as a G.N.Ramchandran Fellow at IGIB, New Delhi. He then

continued his interest in research on classification and evolutionary 3D

tree building that utilized more than a single gene. His notable

discoveries include the demonstration of chick lens cell degeneration

during normal development, which later termed apoptosis for which

the term-coiner were awarded the Nobel prize, and molecular

phylogeny in 3D.

Dr.Ramakrishna V Hosur

Dr.Ramakrishna V Hosur obtained his doctorate from Tata Institute Of

Fundamental Research and received his post-doctoral training with

Nobel laureates of Chemistry Prof. Kurt Wuthrich and Prof. R. R.

Ernst. He has been serving Tata Institute of Fundamental Research

(TIFR) since 1978 and is currently holding the position of the Director

at the Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences at Kalina, Mumbai.

Prof. R.V. Hosur has been awarded "Padmashree" by the Government

of India. He pioneered research in biomolecular NMR, molecular

biophysics, and biophysical chemistry. He has published over 150

research articles in journals and written and edited several books. He

was the Convener, National Facility for High Field NMR; a member

of DST and DBT Expert Committees and is the Chair, IUPAB

National Committee of INSA. He is a Council Member of various

scientific bodies like INSA, IICB, Kolkata; Indian Biophysical Society

and Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA). He is a council

member of Centre for Biomedical Research, Lucknow and a Member

of Council of International Conference on Magnetic Resonance in

Biological Systems. Prof. Hosur is the recipient of several awards and

honours that include BRUKER Young Scientist Award, INSA Medal

for Young Scientists, BD Tilak Lecture, BM Birla Award, 3rd Annual

Award of Society for Cancer Research, RK Asundi Memorial Lecture

and Jagdish Shankar Memorial Lecture (both of Indian National

Science Academy) and JC Bose Fellowship. He is a Fellow of Indian

Academy of Sciences, Bangalore and National Academy of Sciences,

Allahabad. He has guided 20 PhD students in his career.

Dr.Dulal Panda Dr.Dulal Panda obtained his Ph. D. in Biochemistry from Bose

Institute, Kolkata in 1994.After that he pursued his scientific career as

a post-doc fellow at the Department of Molecular, Cellular and

Developmental Biology, University of California Santa Barbara, CA,

USA, and then as Assistant Research Biologist at University of

California Santa Barbara. He joined School of Biosciences &

Bioengineering, IIT Bombay as Assistant Professor in 2000 and

currently is the Chair Professor of the Department. His areas of

research interest include Eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell divisions,

assembly dynamics of microtubules and FtsZ, microtubule targeted

anticancer agents, and FtsZ-targeted antibacterial drugs. He has filed 4

patent applications on cancer drugs and one patent on antibacterial

drug. He has been the recipient of many honors and awards. Notable

among them are the DAE-SRC Outstanding Researcher Award (2010),

CDRI Award for Excellence in Drug Research, S.C. Bhattacharyya

award excellence in basic sciences, IIT Bombay, P.S.Sarma Memorial

Award from the Society of Biological Chemists, India, National

Bioscience Award from the Department of Biotechnology,

Government of India and Fogarty International Research Award,

National Institute of Health, USA. So far, Prof. Panda has authored

nearly 100 publications in peer reviewed international journals.

Dr. Sudeep Gupta

Dr. Sudeep Gupta completed his MBBS, MD and DM from All India

Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, in 2000 and has been a

faculty member in the Department of Medical Oncology at Tata

Memorial Centre since then. He has been a prolific clinical researcher

who is actively involved in planning, organizing, conducting and

analysing Phase I, II and III clinical trials and has been a Principal

Investigator or Co-investigator in more than 100 trials. He takes

special interest in breast and gynaecological cancers and early drug

development. His research areas have involved implementation

science including access to medications, guideline development,

testing concepts and technology in clinical trials, innovative

therapeutic strategies, toxicity and quality-of-life studies,

pharmacokinetics and translational studies involving next-generation

sequencing technology. He has published more than 120 papers in

peer reviewed journals. Since 2013 he has been the Deputy Director of

the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in

Cancer (ACTREC) one of the premier cancer translational research

centres in India. He is currently engaged in facilitating cross talk

between various stakeholders in cancer research at the institutional and

national level, including basic scientists, clinical researchers,

computational biologists, physicists, engineers and others.

Dr. Sanjay Kumar Dr. Sanjay Kumar is working as a Scientific Officer at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, India. He obtained his Ph.D in Chemical Sciences from Homi Bhabha National Institute Mumbai. His research interests include development of materials for hydrogen storage and permeation applications, structural &functional materials for international thermonuclear experimental test reactor (ITER) and development of nano materials for various energy conversion applications. his credit 90 research papers and articles published in reputed international and national journals and conference proceedings. He has delivered various invited talk in India and abroad. He is member of many professional scientific bodies and an active reviewer of various international journals. He is recipient of several best paper awards in various conferences and seminar at national & international level. Recently he has been conferred group achievement award by the Department of Atomic Energy, Govt.of India for his contribution to the development of materials for fusion reactor. Dr. Sanjay Kumar has financially supported by various scientific organizations such as INSA- New Delhi, Dr.Madhuri Sheron Dr. Madhuri Sharon an eminent Bionanotechnologist, is currently

Executive Director of N.S.N. Research Centre for Nanotechnology

and Bionanotechnology; and Principal of SICES College of Arts,

science & Commerce, Mumbai. She is also the Director of Monad

Nanotech Pvt. Ltd., which is the only company producing Carbon

Nanomaterials in India. She was Director of Bio-science Division,

Reliance Biotech. Mumbai. She along with her husband Dr.

Maheshwar Sheron is guiding around 20 students registered for the

degree of Ph.D. of different universities (Mumbai University,

Kolhapur University, Dr Babsaheb Ambedkar technological

University, Lonare and Solapur University. They have set up research

facilities for carrying out research in the areas of carbon

nanotechnology.

Dr.Vikrant Bhor Dr.Vikrant Bhor is Scientist ‘C’ in Molecular Immunology division in

one of the premier research organization in India i.e.,National

Research In Reproductive Health (NIRRH). He obtained his Ph.D in

Life Sciences from University of Mumbai and obtained post doctoral

training from Indian Institute Of Science, Bangalore and Institute

Curie, Paris, France. His current research focusses on RTI’s/STI’s &

HIV, Host-Pathogen Interactions and Reproductive Immunology. He

has published his research in peer reviewed journals of biochemistry

like Journal Of Biological Chemistry, Journal Of Protein Chemistry,

Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry.

Dr. Manu Lopus Dr. Manu Lopus is a cancer research scientist and faculty member at the Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (CEBS), University of Mumbai. Dr. Lopus obtained his PhD in Biotechnology from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. He obtained postdoctoral training in the laboratories of Prof. Leslie Wilson and Dr. Mary Ann Jordan at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he studied the molecular mechanisms of action and cancer treatment potential of semi-synthetic natural products. His current research focuses on the development of non-neurotoxic anticancer drugs, tubulin-isotype mediated drug resistance, and anti-angiogenic chemotherapeutics. Dr. Lopus serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for a number of scientific journals, including Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, Pharmaceutical Research, Free Radical Biology and Medicine, and Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology.
