Ever since debut of the innovative design of our famous Orca, we are proud to say that our ideas have changed the way things are done, and even the way new products are developed and built. SSN technology is an unprecedented example of construction and adaptability in the production of carbon frames. In the case of the groundbreaking ALMA we collaborated with the best MTB racer in history, Julien Absalon, to create this high-tech wonder. New highly-resistant and extremely lightweight materials and better adapted designs are the result of this strategy of research and development we started many years ago and which certainly doesn’t end here, as none of our competitors can equal our team of engineers and our resources. This will guarantee us better products in the future, solutions we cannot yet reveal as they will be unveiled in the next few years, when products will appear that seem like precise science today.

Until now, the technologies used for designing full-suspension bicycles were based on flat kinematics analysis. Advanced Dynamics is the result of a long process of joint research work with the CEIT (Guipuzcoa Studies and Technical Research Centre), using computer-based, virtual modelling and simulation programmes to study the performance of dual suspension bikes. Using this virtual analysis system, Orbea and CEIT were able to take into account all variables affecting a full suspension bicycle’s performance, giving rise to the four cornerstones of Orbea’s Advanced Dynamics technology: the bike’s dynamic suspension platform, perfect use of its suspension travel, its customized damper and its sealed bearings.

Others make their calculations on paper, but, using Advanced Dynamics, Orbea has created a virtual “you”. With our virtual simulation programs, Orbea models different users and simulates different types of terrain, so that we can take into account all the different parameters at work in your full-suspension bicycle: the force exerted on the pedals, saddle, handlebars etc. Basing our design on the results of these studies, our new suspension configuration achieves maximum absorption of all types of impact, minimising the suspension/pedalling interaction and increasing the contact time between your tyres and the ground.

SSN is a working procedure, a design technique and a command of technology that we now use for all our bicycles. Firstly the Orca, and then the Onix and the Alma, began to be designed using this system.

Each bike size is designed individually, optimizing the frame structure according to the stiffness ratio and the cyclist’s body mass. The result is five individually-designed frames, 100% exclusive and perfectly balanced. We have achieved this by creating a structure with variable, optimized tube diameters, in addition to a specific carbon fibre laminate for each of the sizes.

This is a quality standard that we guarantee on our products, and which is far above the average standard required.

Attraction is the smoothness all cyclists desire. Attraction removes road interactions with the body to obtain the best performance. Transfer of power to the wheels is optimized. The fork and rear triangle of the new Orca have been designed with improved shaping to optimize your performance. Its purpose is to absorb vibrations and irregularities of the road, maximize performance of the bike and achieve optimal pedaling efficiency, all without compromising the lateral stiffness of the frame.

Traction force- compression that we have on the rear stays is converted into shear forces through the shaping. Orbea has created a solution providing the maximum possible wheel coverage, taking into account a co-linear geometry with the bottom bracket. The key to this creation is that any cyclist, whatever their size, will be able to assume the right posture on their bicycle.

With the traditional geometries offered by other brands, the seat post is not co-linear with the bottom bracket, meaning that as the saddle height is raized, the length of arm reach is not correspondingly increased, making a truly aerodynamic position more difficult to achieve. With the Ordu this problem is solved and it puts you at the cutting edge of innovation once again.

U.F.O is a carbon suspension system we use to eliminate the pivot point and the additional problems it brings with it: nuts and bolts, axles, bearings, weight, maintenance, etc. · Cyclists need a rear suspension that will provide optimum performance with minimum weight: they are looking for the perfect balance. U-Flexion by Orbea, U.F.O, offers these characteristics: a suspension fulfilling all the requirements as regards lightness - 1.95 kilograms - simplicity, low maintenance and, most importantly, high reliability.

AIZonE by Orbea was created in 2007. The initials stand for “Aerodynamic Investigation Zone by Orbea”. Greater aerodynamics is not the same as greater speed. Increasing the aerodynamics of a bike reduces its stiffness, which means a lower power transmission capacity. Likewise, building a frame with maximum stiffness means its aerodynamics are reduced. The conclusion is that we have to obtain the perfect balance. And that’s where Ordu comes into it. Our principle on developing this bike was to optimise stiffness and minimise the bicycle’s drag as it moves through the air. There are two reasons for this: · Optimum stiffness: The power the cyclist generates is transferred directly into forward motion, to an optimum degree. · Perfect aerodynamic coefficient: The impact of the bicycle as it moves through the air is the most balanced on the market.

All the knowledge created via the AIZonE project is transferred to all the new Orbea bikes at the design stages.

This is the continuation of a long-term project, which will involve the successive evolution of the Orbea Ordu.We work alongside the Euskaltel-Euskadi team, studying their cyclists’ positions in order to improve their time trial results.

· We offer you dual suspension with no pivot point. This is added to the balance between stiffness and flexion that the carbon structure provides: lateral stiffness and total vertical impact absorption, with 85 millimeters of travel. · This innovative suspension system makes for downhill safety and perfect uphill traction, as both wheels always remain firmly on the ground, increasing comfort and reducing fatigue on even the toughest rides.

A 4x4 is an all-terrain vehicle. The Alma is an all-terrain giant. And we’re going to tell you why.

We started with the 4PT. This is a four-point rear triangle that allows a greater distance between the points where the seat stays and chain stays meet the front triangle, and a greater distance where the chain stays are joined to the seat stays, using a fourth angle. The greater the distance between these points, the greater the rigidity of the frame, and the frame’s comfort is improved despite the increased stiffness of the frame over former designs.

After this innovation we carried on working until we obtained the maximum expression of rigidity, comfort and the best cross-country racing geometry in the world: 4x4. The front suspension forks are of a different length. Their industry standard 80 mm length has been increased to 100 mm. And we’ve adapted our frame’s geometry accordingly. But instead of seeing this as a problem, we decided to make it a strength, an opportunity. The first premise to be maintained in the head tube area is that the top tube and the down tube have to remain apart. If the head tube is raized and the tubes are kept at the same angle, the two will be too close together and the bike will lose rigidity. If the top tube is straight, the area where it joins the seat tube is raized, and the comfort provided by the seat tube neck is lost.So we found a way round it. We ran the top tube as it was going to be on the finished bike, and 10 cm from the seat tube we created a curve, a new point, that turns the three angles of the front triangle into four.

We merged the two technologies into one with our monocoque construction and we obtained the 4x4. The advantages of this system are:1) Improved rigidity: the separation maintained on the head tube provides this feature that sets it apart from our competitors’ models. 2) Improved comfort: the new angles created on the front triangle allows the top tube to merge with the seat tube in a lower area, and this provides exceptional impact absorption, even on the roughest terrain. 3) Less lateral torsion: The reduced lateral torsion means better transmission of the riders power.4) It improves the bike’s response and acceleration, as the rear triangle chain stays have been shortened by 3 mm. 5) It adapts to the new 100 mm forks. 6) The head tube and steering angle have been redefined. 7) The rear bridge has been eliminated, obtaining a larger wheel arch for riding in extreme conditions.

An exclusive Orbea design that improves the structural rigidity of the frame even further, while providing rider protection as it serves as a mudguard.The downtube is now an element that adds benefit to your bicycle: this part of the frame has been widened to optimise your bike’s stiffness. At the same time, we’ve given some thought to where you’re going to ride it. The sun isn’t always shining, but then you also enjoy the challenge of riding through puddles and mud. The downtube means that this isn’t a problem any more. Your frame will protect you wherever you go.

�� The BB30 system consists of an oversized bottom bracket, to adapt to the integrated chain wheel/crank unit.The redesigned structure incorporates a series of improvements, whichever crankset system is used:· 5% less weight of the unit as a whole.· Improved lateral rigidity. The greater volume of the structure means more efficient pedalling power transmission. The lower flexion in this area means there is no dispersion of the force applied.

We have redesigned the fork with new tubes, with dimensions of 1-1/8” on the upper part and 1-1/2” on the lower part. The Quebrantahuesos for the first time?The first time was six years ago, and I haven’t missed a race since. But I didn’t start out with the Quebrantahuesos, my first race was the Treparriscos. Phew! And that was a difficult one! I have great memories of it, I’ve never been so hot in all my life! But I just wanted to finish, and feel part of a race that’s so important in Spain, and share my love of the sport with all the other race fans.

Which bike did you start out with?I had a Zeus. A great bike, but I’d been thinking of changing it for a long time, and after that race I went for it. I wanted a bike that suited what I was doing better - I’d had the Zeus for 10 years and I needed a new one. I couldn’t afford an Onix, which was my favourite, so I went for an Aqua. The next year I tried it out in the Quebrantahuesos.

What does the Aqua do for you?Everything! It’s my escape route. I belong to the Bordeaux Cycling Club in France. We take part in the Quebrantahuesos every year, and in the Octogonal too. And we ride whenever we can. At weekends we get some serious cycling done, at least a hundred kilometres. The Aqua is very safe and reliable and I really like its shape.

What’s the next step for you?Winning the Quebrantahuesos… (laughter). No… I just want to go on enjoying racing with an Onix. I’m an aluminium fan, and the Aqua is very smooth, but I wouldn’t mind trying a carbon bike. Would Orbea give me a free Onix?

Why did you choose the Aqua Flatbar?I like the road, I like cycling, but I’m not a professional. So I need a bike that’ll let me see the world around me and enjoy the area I live in.

What do the flat handlebars offer?I’m from Altea near Valencia, and the people here don’t know what a perfect day means until they get on a bike like this one and ride off down the coast road. And it’s so close – just half an hour’s ride and you start to feel the sea breeze and see the beach of El Albir and the little bays along the coast.

Are you a roadster?Of course! I love the road but for me it’s a means, not an end. As I said, a ride down the coast road in the morning or when the sun’s just going down simply defies description. And with the Aqua you’re in such a comfortable position, it’s like sitting on the sofa but in motion, haha…!

Why would you recommend this bike?I’m no bike expert, I chose this one for its features, because it has a guarantee that saves any trouble, it’s really comfortable and it’s appearance is quite spectacular. When I retire I’ll trade my car in and my Aqua will be my transport for getting round Altea.

What is Terra?Orbea loves designing bikes for competition. It’s in our blood. We are leaders on the road with Orca and Euskaltel-Euskadi, in triathlon with Ordu and Craig Alexander, in MTB with Alma and Julien Absalon. Terra is our desire to step into the cyclocross world. We have put all our knowledge and technology together to create a light, rigid carbon frame and offer features that make it ideal for putting it to the test at competition level. Want to take it to the top?

How does it differ from others? ATT Ergonomy System technology. Cyclocross races are plagued with obstacles. With that in mind we have created the Terra with an asymmetric horizontal top tube for a greater contact area between the cyclist and the bike for those stretches where it has to be carried on the shoulder.

The DCR direct cabling system is another of the advantages that the Orbea Terra offers cyclocross users. The technology created by Orbea and successfully utilized in Alma and Orca has been transferred to Terra to obtain greater precision and gear change smoothness, decreasing friction and maintenance. Additionally this direct cabling is specific to Terra as we have moved all cables to the right side to optimize comfort and performance.

Who recommends it?Its reliability durability and performance are certified by our Engineering, Research and Design Department and guaranteed by the Quality Area with UNE standard tests.


We have created a frame with a horizontal asymmetric tube to offer the maximum contact area to the cyclist. This innovation provides enhanced comfort during sections when the bicycle is carried on the shoulder which takes its toll on the performance of the riders. In addition, moving the cables to the right of the frame leaves the surface completely clear, ideal so as not to cause riders any problems.

We have created a unique cable-routing system that very efficiently routes the cable paths to the brakes and gear change and deflector.

The BB30 system means an over-dimensioned pedal bracket which lowers the weight of the same providing enhanced stiffness on the frame. Therefore we have the greatest possible surface to transfer all the pedal power more efficiently.

With the 4 Points Triangle we have managed to increase to the full the side stiffness of the rear triangle by inserting a new vertex, with which we can increase torsional strength, and transform more efficiently all the energy of each pedal stroke into acceleration. All concentrated in the rear triangle.

The new 1 1/8 and 1 ½ headset tubes lighten the fork and increase the front stiffness as well as the capacity of reaction.

Orbea masters knowledge on design and construction of carbon bikes to perfection. Our wide experience accumulated in this material has led us to create bikes that meet the needs of the most demanding two-wheel users in the world.

Orbea has created a solution providing the maximum possible wheel coverage, taking into account a co-linear geometry with the bottom bracket. The key to this creation is that any cyclist, whatever their size, will be able to assume the right posture on their bicycle.

The Ordu frame allows for an angulation range of 74º - 80º. To achieve this, two seatposts are used to cover the 74º-76º and 78º-80º angulations. This gives a clear advantage over other systems:

· it provides a wider range of riding positions, and the rider can adapt their position and obtain more efficient pedalling.· the 74º-76º angle enables a pedalling position similar to that of a traditional road bike. This is normally recommended for mixed or uphill riding.· the 78º-80º angle enables a more forward-leaning pedalling position, which is particularly advantageous on flat land as it means greater pedalling power.

ADVANCED DYNAMICS

Until now, the technologies used for designing full-suspension bicycles were based on flat kinematics analysis. Advanced Dynamics is the result of a long process of joint research work with the CEIT (Guipuzcoa Studies and Technical Research Centre), using computer-based, virtual modelling and simulation programmes to study the performance of dual suspension bikes. Using this virtual analysis system, Orbea and CEIT were able to take into account all variables affecting a full suspension bicycle’s performance, giving rise to the four cornerstones of Orbea’s Advanced Dynamics technology: the bike’s dynamic suspension platform, perfect use of its suspension travel, its customized damper and its sealed bearings.

Through the creation of Advanced Dynamics, Orbea has mastered suspension system performance involving the interaction of different suspension systems and dampers. This has enabled us to create the best adapted ratio curve on the market: the Lambda Curve, - High sensitivity to minor impacts: Due to a low leverage ratio curve and the compliancy of the shock’s damper, the suspension is plush and active the beginning of the stroke, whether climbing or descending. - Linearity on medium impacts: The regressive ratio curve and the damper performance together provide linear performance for medium impacts. - Compliancy on heavy impacts: The final ascending section of the ratio curve compensates for the excessive progressivity of the air shock dampers to achieve complete use of the shock stroke.

Stability at high speed: 68º headtube angle for forks with 150 mm travel and 67º for forks with 160 mm travel. · Correct pedalling position. 73º seat angle for a centred position on the bike, ensuring perfect pedalling power transmission. · Flexibility and manoeuvrability on rugged terrain. A chainstay length of 42.5 cm ensures proper manipulation of the Lambda curve, improved handling in tight terrain, and compatibility with larger volume tires.

The retention system that holds the structure of the helmet to the cyclist’s head needs to ensure comfort and good moisture absorption, and avoid any pressure points.

To achieve this we have developed a retention system with the following main characteristics:· Retention system independent from helmet straps.· Dual injection retention system.· COOLMAX fabric pad system.· Ergonomic adjustment system.· Rubber support surface for a smoother feel.· Winter Kit: a kit consisting of pads and an inner liner for winter use (sold separately)

Orbea has created a revolutionary design that directs the air flow organically around the arc of the helmet.In the case of a linear design, the air flow encounters resistance when it hits the helmet’s surface, and it therefore heads in an upwards direction towards the top part of the helmet. However, our design directs the air flow towards the sides of the helmet. This special design means better ventilation and a more compact structure.

Orbea Design is based on what we consider the four essential elements of bicycle design: the riders, the stateof- the-art technology, the creation process and the trends.

We have developed a layer-by-layer construction technology for our helmets that enables us to optimize the helmet’s features: appearance, ventilation and compactness. Each helmet is built using a certain number of layers, and a specific material is chosen for each layer according to its features. The surface area is reduced by the addition of each layer, providing it with better ventilation and a more compact structure..

This design optimization can only be achieved through a combination of shapes, construction technology and materials.

The logo we have chosen for Orbea Design explains it perfectly: each of these concepts is a key feature of the way we work. The design of our bicycles totally complies with our design concepts.

We have taken inspiration from nature, developing our helmet designs according to a natural concept and organic design. Birds are the species that have best evolved within their environment: the air. They represent

the natural evolution of aerodynamics, and for us, their evolution and their adaptation are reflected in our organic wind tunnel.

It’s not just a question of appearance: as with the evolution of species, we aspire to a design that will really give the maximum performance.

To achieve this, we have taken two aspects into account: · ES Index (External Surface Index). The External Surface Index: less surface area means better ventilation and a more attractive appearance. · ITP Index (Internal Touch Point Index). The Internal Touch Point Index: This represents the surface with the points of contact between the helmet and the cyclist’s head. Less surface area means better ventilation.

Designed using Orbea SSN technology: a design method and technology mastery we apply to all our solutions. The OP-SSN.1 offers two different pad designs to suit cyclists’ needs depending on their size and weight.

Each pad is individually designed, optimizing its ergonomics, thickness and density in accordance with the cyclist’s size and body mass. The result is two individually-designed pads, 100% exclusive and perfectly balanced.
