Chilliwack’s midg-et football Giants improved their record to 2-3 last weekend with a 22-7 win over the visit-ing Coquitlam Falcons.

Keenan Godden got the Giants off to a solid start with an 85 yard touchdown run. He

added the two point convert as well, hauling in a pass from quarter-back Hunter Larocque.

A punt single from R.J. Begg made it 9-0 after one quarter.

Coquitlam’s lone major came early in the second quarter, closing

the gap to 9-7. But the Giants

defence locked it down for the rest of the game, led by Brandon Tooke and Tyler McStravick. Larocque chipped in with an interception.

Steven Baker had the second Chilliwack TD on a run off right tackle.

Nashon Douglas had the third Chilliwack major on a shifty run.

The Giants host the league powerhouse Langley Stampeders

(5-0) Saturday at Townsend Park.

● The bantam Giants (1-4) got their first win of the season, clob-bering the Nanaimo/Cowichan Red Dogs 38-6.

Two Cam Lampart runs had the Giants up 7-0 after their first offen-sive series.

They went up 13-0 on a Gabe Olivares to Trey Isaac touchdown toss, and a one yard TD run

by Olivares gave them a big halftime lead.

The second half start-ed with Trey Isaac haul-ing in another touch-down pass, and Karan Deol ripping off a 40 yard TD run.

The stout defence was led by Chris Derksen, Emerson Harvey, AJ Sagrott and linebacker Cyrus Tommy.

● The atom Red Giants beat the Blue Giants in

an all-Chilliwack match-up.

The victors got touchdowns from Josh Caverly and Nicolas Beck.

The defence was led by Jesse Reddick and Tyler Bergin.

● The atom Blue Giants lost 20 in Maple Ridge. Theo Smith, DJ Stephens and Aiden Saunders moved the ball behind the blocking of Ty Weatherby, Cohen Kercher-Foreman and Sebastian Gonzalez.

Mathew Phillips was a force on D along-side Raiden Mastin, Aiden Parks and Travis Richley.

The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds earned a valu-able split of two games, playing in the BC Major Midget Showcase last weekend.

Games were played at the Richmond Olympic Oval, with the T-Birds taking on the North Island Silvertips.

Game one saw the locals fall behind 5-0 after 20 minutes and 8-1 after 40.

Chilliwack’s Josh Matzek started in goal, lasting one period.

Forward Dryden Downing picked up an assist on the second Thunderbird goal and Hayden Guilderson picked up a third period slashing minor.

Sunday’s rematch saw Fraser Valley build up a 5-0 lead through two periods, then hang on for a 5-3 win.

Matzek was much improved, going the distance for his first win of the year.

The Thunderbirds hit the road this weekend, playing two games versus the Cariboo Cougars at the CN Centre in Prince George.

The fall rains are here — with a ven-geance.

The total rainfall recorded on Sunday, Sept. 28 was 42.8 mm, according to Roger Pannett, volunteer weather observer for Environment Canada.

That exceeded the previous record for that day, which was 41.1 mm back on that date in 1961. Chilliwack weather records go back to 1879.

To date, September rainfall is now at 138.7 mm. on 15 days. To compare, the average for month is 112.7 mm on 11 days.

For the fifth con-secutive month, overnight minimum temperatures were generally well above normal. Consequently mean temperatures were an unusual 1.73 degrees above normal making it the warmest September since 1974. Also a trend, never pre-viously observed since records were started in 1895, occurred as this was the fifth consecu-tive September with above normal mean temperatures.

With 2013 summer (July to September) mean temperatures at 19.56 C (2.33 C above normal) it was the hot-test on record & the thirteenth consecutive summer with above-normal mean tempera-tures, a trend never previously observed since Chilliwack tem-perature records start-ed in 1895.

The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds earned a valu-able split of two games, playing in the BC Major Midget Showcase last weekend.

Games were played at the Richmond Olympic Oval, with the T-Birds taking on the North Island Silvertips.

Game one saw the locals fall behind 5-0 after 20 minutes and 8-1 after 40.

Chilliwack’s Josh Matzek started in goal, lasting one period.

Forward Dryden Downing picked up an assist on the second Thunderbird goal and Hayden Guilderson picked up a third period slashing minor.

Sunday’s rematch saw Fraser Valley build up a 5-0 lead through two periods, then hang on for a 5-3 win.

Matzek was much improved, going the distance for his first win of the year.

The Thunderbirds hit the road this weekend, playing two games versus the Cariboo Cougars at the CN Centre in Prince George.

T-Birds split with TipsNews

The fall rains are here — with a ven-geance.

The total rainfall recorded on Sunday, Sept. 28 was 42.8 mm, according to Roger Pannett, volunteer weather observer for Environment Canada.

That exceeded the previous record for that day, which was 41.1 mm back on that date in 1961. Chilliwack weather records go back to 1879.

To date, September rainfall is now at 138.7 mm. on 15 days. To compare, the average for month is 112.7 mm on 11 days.

For the fifth con-secutive month, overnight minimum temperatures were generally well above normal. Consequently mean temperatures were an unusual 1.73 degrees above normal making it the warmest September since 1974. Also a trend, never pre-viously observed since records were started in 1895, occurred as this was the fifth consecu-tive September with above normal mean temperatures.

With 2013 summer (July to September) mean temperatures at 19.56 C (2.33 C above normal) it was the hot-test on record & the thirteenth consecutive summer with above-normal mean tempera-tures, a trend never previously observed since Chilliwack tem-perature records start-ed in 1895.

Rainy Sunday sets record

Chilliwack’s midg-et football Giants improved their record to 2-3 last weekend with a 22-7 win over the visit-ing Coquitlam Falcons.

Keenan Godden got the Giants off to a solid start with an 85 yard touchdown run. He

added the two point convert as well, hauling in a pass from quarter-back Hunter Larocque.

A punt single from R.J. Begg made it 9-0 after one quarter.

Coquitlam’s lone major came early in the second quarter, closing

the gap to 9-7. But the Giants

defence locked it down for the rest of the game, led by Brandon Tooke and Tyler McStravick. Larocque chipped in with an interception.

Steven Baker had the second Chilliwack TD on a run off right tackle.

Nashon Douglas had the third Chilliwack major on a shifty run.

The Giants host the league powerhouse Langley Stampeders

(5-0) Saturday at Townsend Park.

● The bantam Giants (1-4) got their first win of the season, clob-bering the Nanaimo/Cowichan Red Dogs 38-6.

Two Cam Lampart runs had the Giants up 7-0 after their first offen-sive series.

They went up 13-0 on a Gabe Olivares to Trey Isaac touchdown toss, and a one yard TD run

by Olivares gave them a big halftime lead.

The second half start-ed with Trey Isaac haul-ing in another touch-down pass, and Karan Deol ripping off a 40 yard TD run.

The stout defence was led by Chris Derksen, Emerson Harvey, AJ Sagrott and linebacker Cyrus Tommy.

● The atom Red Giants beat the Blue Giants in

an all-Chilliwack match-up.

The victors got touchdowns from Josh Caverly and Nicolas Beck.

The defence was led by Jesse Reddick and Tyler Bergin.

● The atom Blue Giants lost 20 in Maple Ridge. Theo Smith, DJ Stephens and Aiden Saunders moved the ball behind the blocking of Ty Weatherby, Cohen Kercher-Foreman and Sebastian Gonzalez.

Mathew Phillips was a force on D along-side Raiden Mastin, Aiden Parks and Travis Richley.
