This week on the 9th and 10th of October in Rome, Pope Francis will open a synod titled: “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission.” Next Sunday, October 17th, the synod will be opened in every Catholic Church across the globe. During this synod, Pope Francis is asking the Church, from the people of God in the pews Sunday after Sunday, to the Bishops, to examine the life of the Church as it gathers for communion, as it asks for participation, and as it lives out its mission.

Synods are called by the Pope to gather the experiences of the people to “scrutinize the signs of the times and interpret them in the light of the Gospel.” (Gaudium et Spes, 5) Every three years the bishops from around the world gather together to reflect on the universal Church. When they meet in 2023, they will be reflecting on the Synod’s discoveries in the hopes of finding a way forward to respond to the signs of the times. In order to inform their work in 2023, each diocese has been asked to reflect on the following:

A synodal Church, in announcing the Gospel, “journeys together:” How is this “journeying together” happening today in your particular Church? What steps does the Spirit invite us to take in order to grow in our “journeying together?”

Each diocese has been asked to gather and record their answers to the questions above. You will be receiving information on the way our particular diocese will reflect as this synod unfolds.

Please keep the universal and local Church in your prayers as we journey together seeking a Church which fully lives: Communion, Participation, and Mission.

Synod prayer: We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name. With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts; Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it. We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder. Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions. Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right. All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever. Amen.

Blessings, Fr. joe

INVITATION TO EXPLORE THE CATHOLIC FAITH RCIA—the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults—is the Catholic Church’s way of initiating new members. RCIA is a learning and loving process in which conversation of the heart brings one to experience and to know Jesus Christ. It is an answer to the Gospel invitation in Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” Please call Deacon Frank Ringsmuth at 320-267-7554 during daytime or evening hours to ask any questions about the RCIA process and to discover how you or someone you care about can take the next step on the journey of faith.

Stewardship as a Way of Life: “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” — Mark 10:25

Jesus uses tough language that we may not want to hear. But we are all called to be generous with our gifts. Not just the ones we pick and choose, but all of our gifts and especially the one that means the most to us! That includes our time in prayer with God, our talent in participating in parish ministries and our treasure supporting our local parish and other charities.

BISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL Your generosity makes it possible for diocesan ministries to provide essential education, pastoral care and other assistance to thousands of people across our 16-county diocese. These ministries couldn’t happen without you. Learn more at www.stcdio.org/annualappeal.

They will be open from 10:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. If you are a parishioner in need of a winter coat or other attire, please call Tom or Ione Jacobs at 320-492-7993 or 320-252-0126.
