WORDS OF WISDOM
The spirit of wisdom, as we discover in today’s first reading, comes to those who pray for her. Wisdom, like the word of God, carries a message of consolation as well as of great challenge. The Letter to the Hebrews tells us that the word of God, infused with the wisdom of God, is “sharper than any two-edged sword.” We cannot shrink from the wisdom of God, or from the word that has the power to penetrate our hearts and minds. Jesus, the living word of God, the embodiment of wisdom, has strong, deeply penetrating words for the rich young man who comes to him seeking answers to his most profound questions. Just when the young man thought he had done enough to fulfill God’s commands, more was asked of him. This is no less true for us.
PALABRAS DE SABIDURÍA
Hoy aprendemos en la primera lectura que el espíritu de la sabiduría llega a los que lo invocan. La sabiduría, como la Palabra de Dios, lleva un mensaje de consuelo y a la vez constituye un gran desafío. La carta a los hebreos nos cuenta que la Palabra de Dios, que está empapada con la sabiduría de Dios, es “más penetrante que una espada de dos filos”. No podemos acobardarnos ante la sabiduría de Dios ni ante la palabra que tiene el poder de penetrar nuestro corazón y mente. Jesús, la Palabra viva de Dios, la encarnación de la sabiduría, le dice cosas fuertes y muy penetrantes al joven rico que acude a Jesús en busca de respuestas a sus dudas más profundas. Precisamente, cuando el joven pensaba que había hecho lo suficiente para cumplir los mandamientos de Dios, se le exigió más. Lo mismo sucede en nuestro caso.

Staff Updates
Selene Oropeza, our part-time receptionist for the past year-and-a-half, will be leaving our staff on October 18th to take a full-time secretary/receptionist position at St. Anthony Church in Tigard. I am grateful for Selene’s joyful, welcoming spirit to all who enter our parish office and her dedication to our parish community. We will miss her presence in the parish office and her service in our parish community. Please stop by the office to say goodbye during her office hours this coming week: Tuesday, 9:00am to 4:00pm; Wednesday, 9:00am to 2:30pm; Thursday, 9:00am to 4:00pm. Please keep her in your prayers as she begins this new phase of ministry to the people of God at St. Anthony Church in Tigard.

Selene Oropeza, quien ha sido nuestra recepcionista de tiempo parcial durante el último año y medio, resignó su posición en nuestro personal a partir del 18 de octubre para tomar una posición de tiempo completo como secretaria/recepcionista en la Iglesia de San Antonio en Tigard. Estoy agradecido por el espíritu de alegría y bienvenida que Selene les ofrece a todos los que entran a nuestra oficina parroquial y por su servicio a nuestra comunidad parroquial. Favor de pasar a la oficina a despedirse durante su horario de oficina en esta próxima semana: el martes, 9 am-4 pm; el miércoles, 9 am-2:30 pm; y el jueves, 9 am-4:00 pm. Favor de mantener a Selene en sus oraciones mientras empieza esta nueva fase de su ministerio al pueblo de Dios en la Iglesia de San Antonio en Tigard.

As Catholics around the world — here at home and in the Missions — gather at the Eucharist around the table of the Lord, let us… pray for the Church’s worldwide missionary work offer financial help through The Society for the Propagation of the Faith for vulnerable communities throughout Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands.
