Baptisms: Arrangements must be made by parents through the Rectory Office to schedule baptisms and arrange for Pre-Baptism classes. All parents expecting to baptize their first child are to attend Pre-Baptism classes.

історія Української греко-католицької церкви, яка

тривалий час перебувала у вигнанні. Фільм містить унікальні кадри кінохроніки Львова 40-х

років ХХ століття, подій Другої світової війни та

учасників загону "Червона калина" - найбільшої та

найчисельнішої пластівської організації. "Я згодився на цей фільм задля того, щоб для майбутніх

молодих людей зробити запис, як виглядало наше життя,

коли ми були молодими", - так пояснив Блаженніший

Концерт 29-ого жовтня - один з 9-ти, що відбудуться в

містах Сполучених Штатів - стане особливою подією –

такою, що не варто пропускати.

ЯК ПОВОДИТИСЯ У ХРАМІ БОЖОМУ?

Храм - це не тільки будинок молитви, але і місце

особливої присутності Христа. При вході до храму

чинимо знак святого хреста і поклін; Наближаємося до

тетраподу (стіл по центрі храму у передній його

частині) і цілуємо ікону та хрест, що є на ньому; жінки

нехай подбають, щоби не малювати губи помадою, яка

би потім залишалася на іконах та розп’ятті.

Старайтеся не запізнюватися на богослужіння. Ця

погана звичка дуже сильно вкорінюється. Розраховуйте

час на дорогу з дому до храму і прийдіть так, щоб Ви

ще змогли помолитися приватно перед Святою

Літургією; Так як ми не дозволяємо собі запізнюватися

на автобус чи на поїзд, так і не дозвольмо собі

приходити пізно на богослужіння;

Якщо ми прийшли до храму із запізненням, після того,

що розпочалася Свята Літургія, то вже не

наближаймося до тетраподу, а стараймося знайти собі

місце по боках церкви чи вкінці храму; не стіймо,

однак, на порозі храму чи у притворі;

Старайтеся взяти з лавки молитовник; беріть активну

участь, співаючи та молячись вголос (Святу Літургію,

спільну вервицю); коли дяк оголошує сторінки змінних

частин Святої Літургії чи пісень, відповідно і Ви

старайтеся йому допомагати; однак важливо

прислухатися до інших, щоби не кричати;

Не дозволено повторювати слова, які належать

священику;

В часі відправи Святої Літургії не можна молитись

приватних молитов, бо Літургія – це є найцінніша і

найбільш гідна молитва; приватні молитви можна

відмовляти в будь-який інший час – в храмі чи вдома;

Хто не може стояти більше часу нехай сідає, не

переживаючи за те, «що про мене подумають», бо у

храмі кожен має думати тільки за себе;

По двох сторонах храму є можливість засвітити свічки

в наміренні «за здоров’я» і «за померлих»; це також

треба робити перед відправою Святої Літургії, а не під

час неї; пожертву за свічку опускаємо у скриньку;

Знак святого хреста чинимо на тих частинах відправ,

коли згадуються імена Пресвятої Тройці, на «Мир

всім» та на інших передбачених випадках; чинимо знак

з великою пошаною, кладучи три пальці на чоло,

груди, праве і ліве плече; але важливо тут не спішити і

не махати руками перед собою;

У храмі не оглядаємося по людях і не розглядаємося по

храмі; наша увага повинна бути скерована до Бога.

fellowship. In order to come together as one family to celebrate,

we will be having two Divine Liturgies only on that day. The

English Divine Liturgy will be moved to 9:00 AM and at 10:30

AM will be the Ukrainian Pontifical Divine Liturgy with our

Bishop, Most Rev. Bohdan Danylo. We invite all parishioners

who regularly attend the 8:00 AM Divine Liturgy to join us at

for the 10:30 AM Liturgy.

After the 10:30 AM Liturgy, we will have a Appreciation

Luncheon in the Astrodome to express our appreciation for all

our parish volunteers who are actively involved in the life of the

parish in the different areas such as the Choir, Apostleship of

Prayer, Pastor’s Advisory Council, Pyrohy volunteers, the

Men’s Club, Festival Committee, etc.

The luncheon is free; however, each person attending must

obtain a ticket prior to the lunch so that we know how many

persons will be there. Tickets will be available from the various

organizations in our Parish.

For all those who do not belong to any of the organizations but

help in different ways to actively help the parish, volunteer

workers for the Fish Fry dinners; those who do repairs/

improvements in the parish; our Altar Servers; Cantors, etc. -

you will be able get tickets in the parish office from 9:00 AM to

4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

APOSTLESHIP OF PRAYER The Apostleship of Prayer will hold their next meeting on

Thursday, October 20th at 6:30 PM in the Astrodome meeting

room. We encourage all members to attend and welcome any

one wishing to join this active group.

FILM OF LIFE OF HIS BEATITUDE LUBOMYR HUSAR

On Sunday, October 23rd, after the 11AM Divine Liturgy, in the

Men’s Club Room we will show the first (one half hour in

duration) in a 6 part series documentary film reviewing the life

of His Beatitude Lubomyr. Please stop by to see this great story

through the memories of Beatitude Lubomyr about his parents,

childhood and youth, his reflections on human values and ideals

and the story of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. The movie is

in the Ukrainian language.

CATECHISM OF THE UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

With the blessing of Bishop Bohdan Danylo, we will begin to

read a short article from the Catechism Christ - Our Pascha

after all weekend Divine Liturgies. In his letter in Christ - Our Pascha, His Beatitude Sviatoslav

writes “In the Catechism Christ - Our Pascha we are called to

embody in our daily lives the one inheritance of the faith, as

transmitted in the light of our theological tradition—to deepen,

nurture, and transmit it to future generations.

PYROHY SALES

We currently are in need of more volunteers help make pyrohy.

If you have the time and desire to help the parish, please come

to the Pyrohy kitchen on Thursday mornings. We begin making

pyrohy at 6 pm in the morning. We graciously THANK our dedicated pyrohy workers who

donate their time and efforts each week to our Cathedral

pyrohy project. Pyrohy Sales hours are Thursdays & Fridays

from 8am until 1pm. We invite all parishioners to consider

helping us with this project.

Today, after the 11AM Divine Liturgy, we will have a religion

class in the Ukrainian language for older children. It will take

place in the Parish Room in the Astrodome. The teacher is

MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER GROUP FIRST MEETING

NOVEMBER 5TH

The first meeting of the Marriage Encounter Group will be on

Saturday, November 5th, following the 4:00 PM Divine Liturgy,

at 6:00 PM in the Parish Rectory.

We encourage and invite all St. Josaphat Cathedral Parish

married couples to come on November 5th. We will meet once

a month on Saturday after the Divine Liturgy.

As we gather together we can discuss experiences and

challenges of married couples in today’s world and get answers

to questions you may have related to the teaching, beliefs and

laws of the Church in regard to marriage and family.

On Wednesdays during the month of October we

will have a Moleben in honor of the Mother of

God, the Ever Virgin Mary, at 7:00 PM. After the

How Can I Make My Parish More Welcoming?

A Way of Life

Hospitality is a way of life and not a task. The following strategies will help us cultivate hospitality over a lifetime:

Creating an effective hospitality committee. Create a Hospitality Committee within each parish consisting of parish

members who are excited about the practice of hospitality within the parish and are committed to its renewal. Develop a

training seminar to help them and others understand why welcoming visitors and strangers matters. But remind all

parishioners that they have an important role in the ministry of welcome.

Being welcoming of one another. Be more welcoming of one another within the existing parish community. It takes work

and effort to create an internal welcoming spirit. The natur al human tendency is to form cliques or circles of fr iends that

are not always open or inviting to others. Every parish member must consciously take on the role of being a host, not a guest.

The Greeter. Train greeters to welcome parishioners and guests to the church. Greeters are the people who stand faithfully at

the doors to the church, hand out bulletins, and show people to their seats. When people come to church, it is important that

they feel at home, part of the parish family. Greeters can make guests feel particularly at home.

Paying attention to the stranger and guest. Pay attention to the stranger and the guest. Be aware of the tendency to greet

the same people each and every Sunday. Be on the look out for new people coming to church, smile, and welcome them into

the community. Make them feel at home when they have mustered enough courage to come to church, and

further encourage them and give them courage to come again. Challenge yourself to greet one new person each Sunday. (to be continued)

Troparion, Tone 5: Let us the faithful acclaim and worship the Word, co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit, and born of

the Virgin for our salvation. For He willed to be lifted up on the cross in the flesh, to suffer death and to raise the dead by His

glorious resurrection.

Troparion of Fathers, Tone 8: Christ our God, You are glorified above all, You established our fathers as beacons on earth

and through them guided all of us to the true faith. Glory to You, most compassionate Lord. Glory be…..Kontakion of Fathers, Tone 6: The Son who ineffably shone from the Father was born twofold of nature from a

woman. Beholding Him, we do not reject the image of His form; but depicting it, we revere it faithfully. Therefore the

You, as Creator, raised the dead and shattered the sting of death, and delivered Adam from the curse, O Lover of Mankind.
