Romans 3:28 Therefore weconclude that a man is justifiedby faith without the deeds of thelaw.
The latter 15th and early 16thcentury was a dramatic period. Itwitnessed the achievements of
unprecedented exploration, technology, art and architecture. Duringthis time, St Peter’s Basilica, an architectural masterpiece was con-structed in Rome. To finance its construction clergymen were sent farand wide to raise funds. One of them, Johann Tetzel, traveled through-out Germany offering indulgences to the people to free their loved onesfrom a spiritual penitentiary referred to as Purgatory. He promised, fora contribution, that poor souls suffering for their earthly sins would beimmediately released to heaven. He would say, “As the coin in the cof-fer rings, the soul from purgatory springs.”
A young monk named Martin Luther vociferously resisted this prac-tice and other practices and teachings of the established church thathad no biblical foundation. He challenged the ecclesiastical authoritiesto debate from the Bible alone the validity of indulgences and otherdoctrines and practices of the church that violated the Scriptures.
Especially prominent in Luther’s thinking was the passage above.Through his study of this Scripture and others, Luther came to under-stand that a soul could be declared righteous in God’s sight (justified)through grace alone by faith alone in Christ alone. Rejecting extra-bib-lical traditions, Luther challenged the authorities to use Scripture alone. These principles became earmarks of a movement that shook thewestern world!

Base LicenseAll hunters are required to have a base license before purchasing other licenses. Thebase license provides funding for habitat and conservation work on both public andprivate land, and supports the work of conservation officers and field staff to ensuresafe, legal hunting practices are followed. The base license is valid for hunting smallgame (see pg. 42 of Michigan Hunting and Trapping Digest). Additional licenses arerequired to hunt other species, except a resident possessing a base license may huntcoyote without securing a fur harvester license. Hunters are encouraged to carry theirbase license at all times when hunting. A base license is not required to purchase afishing license or limited-license hunt applications.
