Martinis with the Manager OCTOBER 2008 Ron’s Ramblings I hope that every ne had a good and safe summer. The kids should be back in school and what with all the school activities it is hard to find enough time to enjoy the club like we did all summer. It should be light enough for a couple of weeks to get a few holes in after work. Don’t forget – the tennis courts are lit all year long. Dust off that tennis racket and get some exercise. Ryder Cup takes place at the end of October. This year there will be 2 rounds played at Eldorado. If you live on the course show your support with a banner or sign. Martini’s with the Manager has proven to be one of the most popular events that we have at the club. I am always amazed at the number of long time members that I meet during these events. While the prime purpose is for members to get together and socialize it is also a great opportunity to bring a potential member to introduce them to the club and club members. Last month I mentioned that we will be having elections starting in the fall for At-large members on the Board. This is a great way to contribute your service to the Club and to share your thoughts, ideas and expertise. There will be 3 At-large positions open this year. We will be providing applications in November and depending on the number of folks interested we may have a nominating committee interview prospective candidates. The actual voting will take place in December. Hope to see you around the Club. Eldorado Wishes All Our Members Who Were Born In October Another Happy & Healthy Year!

AmbAssAdors News

Many ECC members have asked us how we, the members of the Ambassador Club, are doing recruiting new members. There are two answers to that question. First, it is not the function of the Ambassador Club to recruit new members - new members come primarily from referrals made by existing members but not all existing members participate by making referrals. In fact, probably less than 10% of our membership makes referrals in any given year. So, don’t be surprised should you ask an Ambassador “how are you doing recruiting new members?” if the answer you get back is not a question such as “when is the last time you made a referral?”.

We do need all of our members to make good referrals - people we want in our club - people who can afford it - people who will use it and enjoy it. Please be sure that the prospective members you refer are consistent with the caliber of our members. That way we will fill our club with people you would like to see every time you come to ECC. What do we do? The Ambassador Club has transformed the process of Membership By Invitation Only so that now each member referral and each new member that is sponsored by a current member is taken care of and introduced into membership by one of our Ambassadors. Anyone who comes to our clubhouse on their own (a few do) is met by an Ambassador who talks to them about our club, shows them around, and - if the Ambassador feels like the prospect would fit into our membership - the Ambassador might chose to extend an invitation to the person or family. But membership still requires an invitation, an application and a review and approval of the application by a select committee of members. The second answer is: we are doing much better than most clubs in our area and better than many clubs in the Palmer group. But, we are not doing good enough to make any substantial net gains because our poor economy is negatively affecting us two ways: we are losing more members for economic reasons and some potential members will not join for economic reasons. Certainly, this to shall pass - but it will take some time for everyone’s confidence in our economy to return. In the mean time, it is important that all of our members make quality referrals. If you would like to participate, let Chelsea know. Bob and Carolyn Philo

It is hard to believe fall is already upon us. I hope many of you have been able to sample the new items on our menu. We have continued to have a tremendous response to Half Off Wednesday and by popular demand it will continue through the rest of 2008. Remember seating is limited, please make reservations.

There have been a few discrepancies with member’s bills. I believe it would be a great help and benefit to the

members as well as the servers if everyone would take the time to sign their checks and write their member numbers on the tickets. This would alleviate the problems of two members having the same last name and receiving charges belonging to other members. Thank you so much for your help in this matter. Drink and Drive is scheduled for Friday, October 9and Guys and Dolls will be Sunday, October 19. Bingo will be Friday, October 17, mark your calendars. Tracy has planned another fun filled wine night for Wednesday, October 22, she will pair chocolates and wine. She has also planned an election night pajama party for Tuesday, November 4 in the grill.

Donny,

I would like to express to you how impressed I was with the presentation of the food at the last Margaritas with the Manager event. The stuffed pig and the grilled fish was nothing like I’ve seen at El Dorado before. After tasting the fish tacos I went over to all the food items in the chaffing dishes. I tasted all the items and I was very impressed with everything. Our new chef deserves “BIG Kudos” because if all of our events feature a spread like this, our members are receiving superbness.

Thanks again and looking forward to the next event.

Cool temperatures are finally here! October means the Member Guest and Ryder Cup are upon us and we look forward to both events. Congratulations to our ladies for bringing the Solheim Cup back to Eldorado! For us, October will be spent preparing for these fine events. We will also squeeze in the overseeding of our tee boxes and clubhouse grounds to keep them green throughout the winter. Looks like this year, we will overseed the week after the men’s Member Guest. It generally takes about two weeks for the seed to germinate and soon after that we can resume mowing. Please remember to keep all carts on cart paths around the tee boxes as they will be very wet from watering the overseed. Once the rye is established, we can then return to watering on a normal schedule.I look forward to seeing you out real soon!
