Hello and welcome to this month’s Global Video Insights Report.

This month’s report highlights the connection between branding and mobile video in a number of ways.

First off, we conducted a global mobile survey on the subject of autos. We received more than 60,000 responses from over 125 countries in six days and uncovered some trends car makers would love to know. We determined the most-preferred global brands, which luxury brands consumers are aspiring to, when they intend to purchase a car and the features most important to make that decision.

Secondly, in tracking the most-watched mobile video clips, not only did we find that movies, sports, humor and religious content are front and center, but big brands Pantene and Range Rover also captured the attention of a fully-engaged mobile audience. Both brands had ads that hit the top ten most-viewed clips in various countries.

Driving Trends: Worldwide feedback on automotive choices and preferences

We recently conducted a global mobile survey on autos. With more than 60,000 responses in over 125 countries, we uncovered some fascinating data about automotive preferences and purchase intentions.

Toyota lapped the field as the world’s most wanted (non luxury brand) car? Nearly a third of all respondents said that Toyota was their top choice. Given the brand’s reputation for reliability and affordability, it’s not a huge surprise, but it is interesting how Honda seems to be sputtering in terms of preference.

If Toyota speaks to the universal preference for reliability and price, BMW inspires those who aspire to a luxury vehicle. 35% of global respondents chose BMW as their top luxury brand.

Top features when evaluating auto purchases

Timing of next auto purchase

We asked consumers what they consider as the top feature when buying a car. Nearly 20% of respondents said cost was the top factor. Safety came in second with engine power revving not too far behind.

Over one-third of our respondents are eager to make a car purchase in the next three or six months. That’s a whopping number of motivated auto buyers that brands can reach through mobile marketing.

Cricket is always near and dear to the hearts of Indians. Such is the passion around cricket in India that a large chunk of population is addicted to the sport and the cricketers draw a huge fan following. Even though India did not make it to the T-20 Worldcup finals and the West Indies captured the title, it didn’t deter the cricket crazy nation from watching their favorite sport. The game remained in our top five searched items this month.

Spotlight on India Madhur Bhandarkar’s movie “Heroine” starring Kareena and Anurag Basu’s “Barfi” featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana d’Cruz both created a lot of buzz before they hit theaters but could not sustain a lasting impact among mobile viewers for long. Both the movies landed at #9 and #8 respectively.

Yash Chopra’s last movie as a director, the long-awaited , “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” hit second rank amongst the top 10 most watched videos this month. On the other hand, Aamir’s suspense thriller “Talaash” has already created ripples amongst the audience with his cop act again after “Sarfarosh”. The movie bags the top position this month. We’ll see if these two can break the records of Salman’s “Ek Tha Tiger.”

Bollywood’s bombshell Bipasha Basu and serial kisser Emraan Hashmi’s latest

horror flick “Raaz 3” sparked enough interest amongst mobile users to grab the eighth position in this month’s top

10. Thanks to the four-minute-long kiss, the hottest new jodi in Bollywood

secured the fourth rank in the list.

Music and entertainment were the most-searched for categories in mobile videos in UAE in September. Movies and celebrities also remained a strong focus. Additionally, religious sermons telling stories of the prophets were among our most watched.

Spotlight on UAE

With the start of the new football/soccer season in Europe and also the beginning of the UEFA Cup (Union of European Football Associations), it’s no surprise that Real Madrid was one of the most searched for phrases for this month.

Top 10 UAE Videos Comedian Mr. Bean was the subject of the most-watched video this month. In this clip Mr. Bean performs his famous dance and sparked a huge number of tweets and sharing among viewers in the Middle East.

One of the most watched videos this month was a strange one titled “Baby ghost in the mirror” in which a young child plays, while his image

in the mirror stays still. Viewers debated on social media whether this was real or an optical illusion.

When Facebook crossed a billion users this month, the company named Indonesia as one of its five biggest user markets. With an appetite for social media, the country is also a huge consumer of and trendsetter for mobile video. Indonesia found that linking its thousands of islands by a fixed nationwide network was prohibitively expensive, so they prioritized the build-out of a mobile network. Without a doubt, this is a country to watch when it comes to all things mobile.

Spotlight on IndonesiaPopular South Korean idol group, Super Junior is also enormous in Indonesia. Formed in 2005 by producer Lee Soo-man of SM Entertainment, the group comprised a

total of thirteen members at its peak. Super Junior launched into international recognition following the release of their best-selling single “Sorry, Sorry” in 2009 and wins big as a top mobile video search this month.

Top 10 Indonesia Videos Indonesia has not been immune to Gangnam Style fever. A viral sensation globally, this clip has also inspired flash mobs in Jakarta. As both a top search and a top view, Gangnam Style is a sensation.

Mobile video continues to prove itself as an effective medium for branding, reaching consumers where they are

most engaged – on their mobiles. Among music, film, humor, Pantene cracks the top 10 mobile video clips

viewed this month, just as Range Rover does in the U.S.

Not only is mobile video a valuable barometer of what’s cool right now, but it’s also a tremendous medium for branding. Range Rover is clearly

aware of this fact and the automaker delivered a clip that cracked our top 10 for the month, alongside popular

news and celebrity content.

Spotlight on the U.S.A. In many ways mobile video is cutting edge and blazing new territory. But the child star gone astray is an old cliché. Amanda Bynes, with her recent DUI charges, hit and run accidents and all around bizarre behavior, has us all watching and hoping for a happy ending.

”Bachelorette” is a comedy-drama with some big names attached. With Kirsten Dunst and Isla Fisher playing major roles and Will Ferrell as producer, it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The film has already enjoyed success on the Video on Demand platform, reaching #1 on iTunes and is also a big hit with mobile video “snackers” viewing short clips.

Something, someone is missing this month! Where have you gone Justin Bieber? Is it just a September anomaly? Or is it a sign of the teen heart throb’s waning celebrity? Only time will tell. One thing is for sure though – the viral nature of Gangnam Style his impacted mobile video in a big way, both in terms of searches and views.
