Hill Country Animal League History

HCAL’s meager beginnings started with a neighborhood group who had a love of garage sales and a concern about feral cat colonies. They decided to establish a rummage store while at the same time wanting to do something about the overpopulation of feral cats in the area. They started with participating in the TNR program and then started a clinic of their own.

Hill Country Animal League has come a long way since 1986! Now we have an affordable spay/neuter clinic and a thrift store that supports the clinic’s mission. The number of surgeries climbs each year. Last year we performed over 5,000 surgeries! We hope to go above and beyond those numbers this year, expand our clinic, and promote educational measures about over population, wellness programs for pets, adoption partnerships with City and County shelters, Rescue Groups and much more!

Consider HCAL Thrift Store as your choice place to donate and know that all your donated items will support a wonderful cause for all animals large and small.

There are many ways to donate!

Bring your gently used items to the side door (facing Sonic) of the Thrift Store at 115 Bandera Road.

You can also put your gently used items in our donation trailer at the Hill Country Animal League Spay/Neuter Clinic located at 924 North Main Street. The trailer is located on the South side of the building and easy to see from the road.

Do you have large items that are too difficult for you to move? Call our Thrift Store today to schedule a pickup of those items. Just ask for Paul or Wayne! Our number is 830.249.8040!

The Thrift Store needs all types of items from jewelry and clothing to refrigerators and large furniture items. Please think of The Hill Country Animal League when wanting to make donations!

Ever heard of TNR or Trap, Neuter, Return? This is a selfless program that many of our local residents

take part in to help prevent unwanted kittens in our area. Several local area residents have taken on

the challenge of setting out live animal traps in highly populated areas of feral cats which include Wal-

Mart, HEB, Home Depot and other similar locations around Boerne and surrounding areas. Once a feral

cat has been trapped, the animal is brought to HCAL the next day for spay or neuter surgery where our

highly trained technicians are familiar with handling these feral cats. Sometimes we provide surgery

and rabies shots on 40 or more cats in a single day—along with our scheduled appointments for that day!

These cats are then picked up by the resident that has trapped them and the cats are returned to the

same location they were trapped. These cats can now live a full life of catching rodents and fending for

themselves without producing MANY more kittens! Our hats are off to the wonderful service that each

of our TNR members provides our local community! Without the TNR individuals and groups, Boerne

and the surrounding areas will be overwhelmed with kittens in a very short period of time! If you see a

cat missing the tip of one ear, this cat was part of the TNR program!

Local Veterinarian Services

Hill Country Animal League [HCAL] has a mission to have animal unity in our community which

includes a collaboration with city, county and rescue organizations to support spay/neuter programs,

reducing overpopulation, and promoting animal adoptions from the shelters in an effort to create no-kill

shelters in our area. Because our mission supports spay and neuter services only, HCAL refers our

clients to local veterinarians in our community. Below are some names of the veterinarians that we give
